Adrian M 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2016 CFM LEAP-1A is big but PW1100 GTF engine diameters is even bigger than CFM. Looking at the ground clearance, Future A320 is still capable for bigger High Bypass engines.

Waiping 12 Report post Posted August 1, 2016 Will the A330-300 P2F cannibalise A330F. Sure it is cheaper. Lets see how it goes. Might be costly due to the "double-chin" procedure.
SS Lee 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2016 Looking forward to see those AK NEOs. The A333 P2Fs will have double chins too? Thought they were not going for that.
Amirul Mazlan 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2016 But the 330F is based on A330-200 right. The p2f will surely have more load. Whatever it is, the second hand value of A333 will be better when they have options what to do with it, scrap it or punch a whole and make it a freighter

Yes, looking forward to the NEO delivery - should be here before the end of the month. A330 P2Fs will not have that conversion as it makes it uneconomic. JuliusWong 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2016 With the introduction of B787, A350 and soon A330neo, the used market will soon be flooded with many A330. Recently TAM, Emirates and Vitenam Airlines have been off loading some A330 into the market. According to Airbus, both A330-200P2F and A330-300P2F are offered. "According to EADS EFW, the A330P2F contemplates the conversion of both Airbus A330 variants: the A330-200P2F, suitable for express freight carrier operations given its high volumetric payload capabilities with lower-density cargo, and the larger A330-300P2F, devised for those operators in need of higher-density freight and longer range performance characteristics." Source The A330-300P2F will carry up to 60 metric tonnes over a distance of 2,200 nautical miles, or 61 tonnes to a range of 3,600 nautical miles for the higher MTOW (maximum takeoff weight) variants. The A330-200P2F has a payload capacity of up to 59 tonnes on ranges to 4,000 nautical miles. Source Only factor which express courier/ cargo airlines will look at P2F is the relatively low cost of acquisition compared to a new A330-200F.

flee 5 Report post Posted August 8, 2016 (edited) Apprentice no more... Based on rego those are rather new frames, no? Yeah, lucky I shot a few more of AFA a couple of months ago! I think one of the reasons why AK sold those newish frames is to cut their borrowings. The will need to finance the new NEOs. They are also managing capacity in a disciplined manner. JuliusWong 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2016 Thank you Adrian and flee for updates. Finally 9M-XAA is leaving for good after sitting at LCCT KL for past few months without any assignment. Farewell to the old lady, she deserved her retirement. Good to see AirAsia drawing down their A320ceo for neo's arrival. Those A320 with 9M-AF* registration must have paid off by itself since they are the first batch, while 9M-AJ* are still being paid off, thus selling off to lower debt gearing. A bit of history: Back in March 2005, AirAsia signed an agreement for 60 firm A320 with 40 option to replace the ageing Boeing 737 fleet. Slightly a decade after, they have 175 A320ceo in operation; have 300 A320neo and 100 A321neo on order. Phenomenal! The 2005 deal sparked off LCCs revolution in Asia, notably Indigo (which since trumped AirAsia order), Jetstar, tigerair, Vietjetair, and others. Also, Airbus continuous dominance in Asia LCC is partially due to AirAsia. Official Photo of AirAsia first A320ceo (9M-AFA) during handover ceremony back in 2005. Yes, I would imagine that an aircraft the age of 9M-AFA is now fully paid for - so no more finance payments. Just fit some new Mirus Hawk seats, refurbish the cabin and it is as good as new. With oil prices still low, the fuel burn disadvantage is not as great, especially on short sectors. When Airasia made its mega order at the 2011 Paris Air Show, many "analysts" wonder what they were going to do with so many planes. We now have an answer - AAC. By managing its fleet prudently, they have turned those big orders into an asset that can be monetised as and when required. Bye bye, 9M-AFA. Lets see what emerges when it is inducted into I5's fleet...
