Penang (WMKP/PEN) 2015

Recommended Posts

Written off is a new runout I read here - but apparently the damage is quite substantial - presumably to the gears. If nose landing was the case, fwd fuselage buckling as well as structural deformation at the nose gear anchor points is also possible.. Would be the first A330 HL write off if ur runout is correct - suspect just a gear change and some structural beefing necessary (still costly). Airbus on the job!

Rumour***

That must have been one really hard landing for an aircraft to be written off.

A Dragonair Airbus A330-300, registration B-HLK performing flight KA-691 from Hong Kong (China) to Penang (Malaysia), landed hard on Penang's runway 04 at about 18:45L (10:45Z), rolled out and taxied to the apron. There were no injuries, the aircraft received substantial damage however.

The aircraft was unable to perform the return flight KA-692 the following morning and is still on the ground in Penang about 106 hours after landing.

A ground observer reported the aircraft touched down with all gear simultaneously, perhaps nose gear first.

The Aviation Herald received information confirming a bounced landing followed by a second very hard touch down nose gear first at 2.8G causing substantial damage to the aircraft.

Wonder whether it is related. For the past few days, been hearing jet-type aircraft flying overhead. Didn't managed to see them.

Sounds like a jet, but the sound only lasts for a few seconds, as compared to an ordinary fighter plane whose sound lasts for tens of seconds.

i work in FIZ and some day i heard a short noise which similiar to fighter jet but it's significantly less noisy compare to fighter jet, nothing shown on FR24 either.

Thanks for sharing SS!

Have a productive 2016!

Thanks flee. Have a great one yourself.

Wow a TG B777 in PEN.... tht is a rare sight

They sent them over a period of a few weeks, alternating between the 320s and 777s. Wonder if its due to fleet allocations or the need for more capacity during the year-end period. Dragonair had additional flights to Penang using their 320s too.
