Last time I flew above this airspace was less than a week ago (22 Dec 2014) on KLM flight KL836. The turbulence around this air space was pretty rocky, From memory, it happened to my other Australia and NZ flights too.

Hope everyone is okay.

A few moments ago on CNN "..... the plane is an airbus 320, same as the one shown on screen now ....."

And on the screen ? Air Asia X

Guess journalism round the world do not differ much as far as planes are concerned

looks like CNN is now more of trying to "sensationalise" news ever since the way they cover MH 370 incident by having so called "airline/aircraft experts" and seems actually fanning the issue with more speculation.

Even on this unfortunate OZ incident, have heard earlier on even Richard Quest made the mistake of saying it occurred late at nite and hence hard to spot etc - when its actually in the early morning - and only later did he and CNN corrected the time by saying he mistakenly based on GMT or his US time.

Even although it was live CNN coverage but they are slow as they still were reporting that the pilot asked for a unusual heading even when Indon press report says that the pilot asked for diverting around thunderstorm and requested a climb from FL320 to FL380.

Getting really annoyed with people who keep saying this is a Malaysian plane. When you point it out to them, they get defensive. And say Malaysia is trying to blame others. No. Just pointing out the facts. If no one does that , by tomorrow the airplane will be a McDonnell Boeing A390 with 29034 pax aboard and was flying from Delhi to Joburg via Los Angeles and it was shot down by bb pellet gun.

the trouble with not just others saying its a Malaysian plane - but was surprised to hear earlier that the Malaysian transport ministry was going to have a press media? This is an Indonesian Air Asia and the plane is registered in Indonesia and in Indonesia air space - so cant understand why the Malaysian govt wants to even poke into this - and made worse by PM commenting much earlier that "the plane has gone down"??? Why make this even a Malaysian thing as didn't the MOT and Trannsport Minister make themselves looked kinda st..... during the MH 370 incident with so many U turns

Even at Changi airport and the s'pore govt officials did not comment on any speculation but to say they will offer all assistance necessary including 2 C130s which are on standby.

Calm down...

I don't think official M'sia gov. stand in this matter is overly exaggerated, everyone knows the plane is Indonesian registered and incident happened in that country. For the most part, 3 TLDM vessels have been deployed to assist the SAR.

People are associating the lost plane with Malaysia simply because AirAsia's unified branding strategy is TOO GOOD. There's no distinction between FD, QZ, AK & PQ and so people naturally assumed that it's one company (and all mentions of AirAsia when referring to the flight also doesn't make the distinction. Instead of Indonesia AirAsia, reporters just said AirAsia).

Case in point, I saw CNN earlier & cringed when they mentioned that it was a "Malaysian company" & started to link QZ8501 to MH370. Richard Quest however did point out correctly that this was an INDONESIAN plane operated by an INDONESIAN company - but that didn't stop the newscaster from repeatedly referring to QZ8501 as a Malaysian flight.

Had the minister said nothing, people would be bashing the Malaysian government to no avail for being "inactive"!
