Seeking advice LHR -KUL

Recommended Posts

Hi All

My sister is planning to come down to Penang on 23/24th July -29th Aug 2015. Any ideas of the most economical route for a family of 5 to travel from London to KUL/PEN during then or any running promotions for that period? thanx

LHR-PEN is easy - make sure she signs up to newsletters from MH, the ME3, and also Skyscanner.

As it is summer, super peak or peak fares will apply.

Wow Mushrif, kuwait air so cheap! 3063 pounds only for all 5 compared to MH 4500 pounds onwards.Unable to price Oman air

uwait International Airport (KWI)
12:20 | Fri, 28-Aug-15 London Heathrow International Airport (LHR)
17:20 | Fri, 28-Aug-15 0 Stop(s) Airbus A300-600

Do they still use A300?Does the A300 & A340 used on KUL route have PTV?Sorry just trying to gauge what to expect.

I cant recall what KU had on the A300 but the A340s do have PTVs but they are 1st generation ones, not unlike what you have now on MH's 772...or maybe even a generation earlier.

But try China Southern too - though they may operate out of LGW. Cant recall.

Also, try kayak.com

Try Royal Brunei too..two stop service via DXB and BWN, but more youthful planes than KU.

Emirates and QR have consistently cheaper fares than the competition. AF and KLM also offer good deals. However, I have been put off by AF's strike in September.

China Southern works up to 4800 pounds,RBA more then 5000,MH slightly less then 4900,EK 4500,Qatar 4539,kuwait 3065,Turkish 3700,Oman air cannot price itenarary,CX 4200,SQ 5018,KLM 6083.

Kenneth thanks for the trip report on Kuwait. Seems very outdated but is so reasonably priced. Downside 5 hours transit, guess the kids will be sooo bored on the long flight and also in the airport,TK looks like a good deal.

Also noticed that Oman air operates a rather new fleet,

Fares look a tad high, all of them over £700. I think they can wait for a while - oil prices are coming down. It may take some time before airlines adjust their fares.

As usual, when oil prices go up, they are quick to raise fares. The reverse may not be true. ;)

Hi Guys thatnks for all the info. Most likely will use cathay at 4100 pounds because its just one stop from London to Penang. As apposed to landing at KLIa and

then splurge on another flight to penang for 5 hence involve 3 plane changes.

Etihad and Qatar are offering some of the cheapest fares for summer 2015 at the moment. You can get £450 return per person in June from Lon and Man on Qatar. Jul is normally very expensive, so a bit flexibility on travelling dates might help you to save a lot of money. Etihad offer very cheap flight from EDI to BKK for £400 per person in June 2015, if you really don't mind to buy another separate ticket from BKK to PEN. I bought EDI-AUH-BOM-BKK-AUH-EDI for £417 only and AUH-BOM will be on brand new B789!

As for CZ, just tried CZ from LHR to CAN return last month on B788.The B787 was great, but CZ's service was poor, foods were terrible and small portion.

Sadly Wong dates not flexible mate, maybe just by a day is ok. Because the childrens schools holiday begins then,23rd. As this will be the first visit to Malaysia,

and probably the only one for a long time to come, they want to maximize their time there in Malaysia from the start of holidays till end,23/24th July till 29th Aug.

CX seems to be the only one stop connection from LHR to PEN which is resonable. Checked Etihad LHR/BKK GBP 4546.80

Good choice, with kids in tow it can be too much of a hassle to make an extra stop to change plane.

Don't forget you also get 1.3% cash back if you book the flights on the CX website through Quidco :)

Thanks for the cash back tip on Quidco, mate.Yes travelling with kids, the number of stops becomes relevant.

Hope that Dragon Air isnt all that bad, flee.

Meanwhile if anyone do come across any promotion via BKK, hence LHR/BKK/PEN or via KUL, LHR/KUL/PEN please drop a line.

Dragonair cabin crews are far nicer and friendlier than Cathay Pacific's. It is a blessed for PEN that this route has been handed over to KA. Edited by Isaac

Then its not all bad news they swapped KA for CX to Pen. Heard they are getting some new A330's too.

KA currently operates 18 A330-300, 6 of which feature a First Class cabin deployed exclusively to PEK. KA will take delivery of another 2 A330-300 from its parent company CX (used aircraft, ex-CX). All of KA 333 have been reconfigured with new seats in J and Y (**B-HLG and B-HLL have the ex-CX fixed shell seats in Y). All KA 333 also feature AVOD system similar to CX's.
