Didn't the MH A380 suffer from pressurisation problems too? Looks like there may be some problems with the doors or something more serious.

Wanted to post about this early this morning but was unable to create a new topic.

 

They were required to wear the oxygen masks for roughly two hours prior to the emergency landing.

 

Most passengers were stranded at the airport as the airline was having a hard time putting them into hotels due to visa issues.

 

VVIP from Brunei are among the stranded passengers together with her family. Airline was struggling to take care of them as well, as the lounges were closed at that time or something. Public restaurant/cafe it was for them then with the remaining premium pax.

SQ's social media team actually posted this status ahead of anybody else, 9 hours ago.

 

Flight SQ317, an Airbus A380 operating from London to Singapore, diverted to Baku in Azerbaijan on 6 January 2014 as a result of a cabin depressurisation. Oxygen masks were deployed and the aircraft landed uneventfully at Baku airport at 01:03 (local time). There were no injuries to the 467 passengers and 27 crew on board.

We are seeking clearance from local authorities to transfer affected customers to a hotel until a replacement aircraft arrives from Singapore.

Customers may wish to contact our Reservation and Ticketing Office in Singapore at +65 6223 8888 for assistance.

 

And this is their latest update.

 

Here is an update on flight SQ317, which diverted to Baku, Azerbaijan earlier today due to a technical problem. A replacement aircraft has now departed Singapore bound for Baku and is due to arrive at around 2300hrs, 6 January, Baku local time. It is expected to arrive in Singapore in the early afternoon of 7 January, Singapore local time.

As we do not operate regular flights to Baku, Singapore Airlines staff have been sent from both Istanbul and Moscow to provide assistance on the ground.

We sincerely apologise to affected customers for the inconvenience caused by the diversion and the lengthy delay encountered at the airport in Baku.

Correction, no restaurant available. Just light snacks from the airport retailers.

 

According to VVIP, a rush for shower facilities among the passengers but among the five or so lounges, only the "Zumrud Room" has such facility.

All passengers are fed and currently bored measuring the airport from end to end since deplaning early this morning.

Any reason why SQ picked Baku airport instead of an airport that it serves, eg. IST or ATH ? Are IST & ATH too far offcourse from its route LHR-SIN ?

It has been reported that the oxygen masks were dropped and used by pax for more than two hours. There must be ample of time to make decision for the diversion

 

 

P/S : Interestingly I found out from SQ website Baku is in their route map. Is it for their cargo services ?

Kee when decomp happens especially over that area where terrain are higher than 10000 ft that explains why the use of oxygen mask of 2 hours. To divert to ist or ath, well we dont know the performance of the aircraft then. Btw ath and ist is a bit far to go eh, remember lower levels burns more

The reason I mentioned the use of oxygen mask for more than 2 hours before landing showed it may not be an immediate life threatening episode. Thus, the pilot may still have some tiny bit of "luxury time" of deiciding which diversion airport to go. Just my thinking, I could be wrong ....

The plane descended to 10,000 ft. But, the mountains around that region is quite high. The nearest big airport is probably Tehran IKA, but then the plane has to cross Alborz mountain range to reach the city. Iran's highest mountain, Mt. Damavand is located at this range at more than 18,406 ft.

Only to find out they had to wait a good 10hrs at the airport till the first wave of visas to be issued. Hilton Baku it was for 3-4hrs of rest

Time flies pretty quick for 3-4 hours.

 

Unfortunately the "premium" passenger probably had 5-star hotel and Jacuzzi in mind when they landed at Baku.

Azerbaijan is an oil rich country though, that's for sure.

Han Chin Lau I am one of the passenger in this flight. when you in fact stay in the airport for more 14 hours without no bed n anything but the media in Singapore announced that we been nicely sent to hotel. How you feel?

Must be their callsign for rescue ops.

 

Today, it's 9V-SRH operating SIN-MEL to pick up pax from there as 9V-SKH is stranded having supposed to operate SQ228. AOG due to hydraulic leak.

 

SRH will then operate SQ228D MEL_SIN as a one class op. The R and J pax have already been moved to other flights, so this 772 is there to take the Y pax back.
