B747 landing gears question

Recommended Posts

Can anyone let me know if 747's landing gear (the two at the rear and mounted to the fuselage), do they actually rotate when the aircraft turns?

I read one of the interviews with Joe Sutter, the father of 747, someone indicated the 747 landing gears do indeed rotate?

Do they turn in opposite directions, as you get for cars with 4 wheel steering feature.

What about the landing gears on the A380, do they turn as well?

Yes they do. The Boeing 777 Main Gear aft (third) axle also pivots up to augment turning radii of the airplane during tight/large turns. It is a system known as "Main Gear Steering".

Thanks guys, very informative.

How much does the 777 gears actually turn? Is it noticeable?

I heard the 747 one's are pretty obvious, same goes for A380?
