2015 Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition

Recommended Posts

2 Years back, the MAS A380 flew from KLIA to Langkawi for the flypast.

Where would the B-52 be departing from in this case? Subang?

Whoah Minot is far..

Would be rather less economical to be making multiple trips back and forth to Langkawi, regardless of where it is coming from.

Correction, B52 will be from Guam and during the 2015 LIMA opening.

PLAAF J10 sources says still good to go but anytime can cancel like the 2014 S'pore Airshow.

It'll be good to go if Thailand side confirm that PLAAF J10 refueling there.

Slowly reducing by the numbers.

However the Static Display number's increasing every update.

Any info on whether aircraft visiting LIMA will be stopping by at any nearby airports before proceeding to Langkawi?

I would be more interested in the Chengdu J10 flown by the August 1st team. They are rumoured to be arriving tomorrow. Can't get Chinese fighters participating in airshow unless in China like the Zhuhai airshow.

Spotters-Dinner?

Hello,

one week to go! Me and three friends from Germany will leave Europe with destination Langkawi on friday night. After a short stop in KL, we'll arrive on sunday in late afternoon.

It seems, spotters/photographers from many countries will visit the LIMA. It's a good opportunity, to meet each other for dinner or breakfast or some drinks!?! Someone interested in an international spotters-meet? Would be a pleasure to meet you!

Cheers!

Sascha

That'd be an awesome meet up. I'm certainly gonna attend if dinner, breakfast or drinks are on. Perhaps time to create a whatsapp group to see who's coming?

ANALYSIS: Procurement questions to dominate LIMA show

Langkawi is an idyllic location for an air show, but its sunny skies aren’t likely to shed much light on Kuala Lumpur’s procurement agenda.
The two years since the last instalment of the biennial Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace (LIMA) exhibition have been eventful for the Royal Malaysian Air Force. The show falls just after the first anniversary of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, a Boeing 777-200ER that mysteriously diverted to the far reaches of the Indian Ocean while operating the Kuala Lumpur-Beijing route on 8 March 2014.
Malaysia's air force was active in the first week of the search, when the aircraft was mistakenly presumed to be in the Gulf of Thailand or Strait of Malacca. It later sent Lockheed Martin C-130Hs to Perth in Western Australia, where they participated in the ultimately futile search for the missing aircraft. The service also played a crucial humanitarian support role during floods that swept the northern part of peninsular Malaysia in the last weeks of 2014.
Despite these major events putting Malaysian airpower in the spotlight, all indications suggest Kuala Lumpur is no closer to making decisions about major equipment purchases – especially around its ageing fighter fleet and for another glaring capability gap, a long-range maritime patrol aircraft (MPA).
That is not to say this year’s LIMA will be absent of signs of progress. Barring unforeseen contingencies, the show is set to see the debut of Malaysia’s first Airbus A400M tactical transport. On 30 January, the nation’s first example conducted its maiden flight: a 90min sortie from Seville, Spain.
The first of four “Atlas” airlifters on order for the air force, aircraft MSN22, is also the 16th production example of the A400M, from a 174-unit order book for eight nations. Airbus has previously outlined a schedule to deliver Kuala Lumpur’s lead example by the end of the first quarter of this year, with the aircraft to be operated by the air force’s 22 Sqn. The show website indicates that the aircraft will participate in the flying display at the show.

this year there will be A380 fly-pass right? though that's not really the main dish for the show (as this is the 2nd time), any idea around what time will the fly-pass takes place?

I am not sure if there will be an A380 flypast again this year.

Hopefully they do, the A380 and the B-52. Looks like the J-10s will be in action for LIMA.

Saw quite a number of unidentified aircraft doing rounds somewhere near Alor Setar. Could be related.

I guess it should be a field day (or week) for spotters in Langkawi, with all types of aircraft coming in for the LIMA exhibition and aerial display rehearsals.

Sascha,

Dinner would be great!
