Security will be tight..possibility of taking photos of the plane?

United States President Barack Obama may attend the 4th Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) 2013 in Kuala Lumpur on October 11, which will mark his first visit to Malaysia.

Ministry of Finance secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Irwan Serigar Abdullah said so far, indications from the White House were positive on the possibility of Obama attending the summit.

"World leaders will congregate at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Summit 2013 in Bali, Indonesia, from October 5.

I think a photo from Anjung Tinjau should be possible. Roadside departure / arrival could be possible too. Secluded spots such as Ladang could be well guarded.

I like the guy, and it's nice he's coming. But i just set a reminder in my calendar to make sure i don't have any travel in or out of KUL around that time. His predecessor caused me a mega delay in Heathrow once and i didn't particularly enjoy that......

Baffling why head of states are still accommodated at LHR considering how congested that place is already

Wouldn't one of those military places dotted round London, eg Brize Norton, cause less disruptions ? :)

Maybe the airbases do not have VIP facilities and as such not fit for visiting head of state?

Not that LHR is much more luxurious in the first place...

He visited Singapore a few years back and Airforce 1 was parked at Seletar base IIRC.

From Seletar he was whisked in the motorcade.

There were no issues photographing Airforce 1 and the motorcade from a distance.

Seletar can't even take a fully loaded 737!

VIPs of such high profile would probably not want to pass through the airport terminals etc. Most likely to have been whisked away and returned to the plane as soon as possible.

It will allows the US's intelligence to "sanitise" the possible areas that Pres.Obama will appear/travel on.

I wondered how many streets will be blocked off by this visit.

Hmmm; that means he will be the 2nd US President to visit Malaysia after LBJ back in 1960s; correct me if i'm wrong here.

Secret Service might be stationed at Anjung Tinjau. Even when the E-4B came to KUL last year and parked far away near the MAS hangars, there were foreigners dressed like Secret Service agents with very large binoculars keeping an eye on the plane from Anjung Tinjau.

in any case, there will be 2 Air Foce 1 747s - and one will be the decoy.

He could also be in one of the Super Puma or any private jet that escorting the two jumbo jets.

Do not discount SZB just yet ....... an airforce base with better security although lack of VIP lounge. He may not be in a motorcade from the airport but 'Marine 01' could do the job.

:hi:

SZB ? I think the traffic going in and out of that airport to the city center will be horrendous for its security details, and also to the Malaysian general public.

When Najib decided to pay Port Klang a visit some time ago, a couple of major streets leading to and out of the tiny village were blocked off causing much inconvenience to the locals.

So, one could imagine the massive traffic snarls that would happen during Pres.Obama's visit to Malaysia.

Apart from this, it would be nice to have the President of USA visiting our uniquely cultural-blended Malaysia. A recognition of sorts I would say.

On the morning when then President Mandela decided to drop by KL for a visit, I was stuck in a taxi (meter running) on an access road to the Federal highway, which someone had decided it was best to isolate for security, protocol or whatever reasoning, for close to a half hour, so as to facilitate the VIP's motorcade to whizz past us in all but five seconds or so

Yes Mr President, you have a good day too :D

Barack Obama surprises Najib with personal call over GE13 victory

KUALA LUMPUR: President Barack Obama telephoned Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Tuesday to congratulate the prime minister on his success in getting the mandate from the people to continue leading Malaysia.

In the surprise call, Obama expressed his understanding and acceptance of the process and results of the country's recently-concluded GE13.

In a statement issued here Tuesday, the Prime Minister's Office said that during the conversation, the US president was also briefed on the Government's efforts to ensure the clean and fair process of the elections.

It said that on his part, Obama had agreed to participate in the two-day Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Kuala Lumpur, beginning Oct 11.

President Obama probably didn't care about how Ah Jib Gor got thru the line... as long as he upheld the value of democracy, it is all that matters. The rest are just none anyone else's bee's wax...

Mind you, fake democracy is a kind of democracy! :D

While it would be great for a sitting US president to visit Malaysia (trivia: the last sitting US President to visit Malaysia was Lyndon Johnson in 1966!), traffic is going to be a nightmare in and out of KL! LA almost always come to a standstill whenever Obama is in town. While many LA residents like and voted for Obama, Angelenos hate it when the president comes to town because of the traffic chaos it will create.

This is pretty normal - most foreign leaders make a congratulatory call to a newly elected leader or an incumbent leader who successfully defended his/her seat after an election.

There will always be an American president, so whether it is Obama or not, there will always be traffic chaos when the POTUS is in town.

Anyway how much KUL traffic will be affected remains to be seen.
