Thai AirAsia X

Recommended Posts

Thanks MAR for the info. XJ- old code for Mesaba Airlines of USA. I notice XJ code last week when I did my AK booking. But nothing is loaded up yet.

Jetstar is not doing very well now and continues to bleed due to over-expansion. Guess they put the A330 freed up from SIN-AKL route cancellation to be used on MEL-BKK route.

Guess they put the A330 freed up from SIN-AKL route cancellation to be used on MEL-BKK route.

They are putting their B787 on this route, not the A330.

Thai AirAsia X and NokScoot both target Thailand-Japan market, starting with Bangkok-Tokyo Narita

Competition in the Thailand-Japan market will greatly intensify by the end of 2014 as new long-haul low-cost carriers Thai AirAsia X and NokScoot both plan to serve Tokyo Narita as their first destination. Thai AirAsia X plans to initially serve Japan with charter flights starting in Apr-2014 while Thai AirAsia X and NokScoot are both expected to start operating scheduled services to Japan in 4Q2014.
Thai AirAsia X will launch with a fleet of two A330-300s sourced from its Malaysian sister carrier while NokScoot is now planning to launch with a fleet of two 777-200s sourced from Singapore Airlines. Thailand will become the first country with two medium/long-haul LCCs, providing an intriguing dynamic.
The Thailand-Japan market is growing rapidly and could benefit from LCC stimulation. But there is a risk of overcapacity, particularly if the Thailand market does not recover rapidly from the recent political protests.
Thai AirAsia X to launch initially with charter services - start with just one aircraft

Thai AirAsia X to take to the skies in June
Thai AirAsia X, Thailand’s first long-haul low-cost airline, will take to the skies about two months from now despite the tourism market being dragged down by the country’s political turmoil.

After putting off the launch previously planned for the first quarter, Thai AirAsia X will launch its maiden service from Bangkok to Incheon, South Korea on June 17 and then kick off regular flights to Japan’s Narita airport in Tokyo and Osaka around July.
While acknowledging the major fallout of Thailand’s political unrest on traffic demand both inbound and outbound, Thai AirAsia X chief executive Nadda Buranasiri yesterday said the launch was fixed because the airline is ready to do so. Being the first entrant in the medium-to-long-haul air travel market in the country, it sees the strategic opportunity of being registered in consumers’ minds. '
'Being the first, people tend to remember and associate us as the country's first long-haul low-cost operating in and out of Thailand, making us their choice,’’ he said.

Thai Air Asia X increases connectivity to East Asia
Newly launched Thai AirAsia X is now offering a fly-through service via Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok to lure long haul passengers heading to South Korea and Japan who previously made the transit via Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“Thai AirAsia’s passengers arriving in Bangkok can now connect to a Thai AirAsia X flight via the transfer desk, without needing to pass through immigration, collect bags, re-check in or have a transit visa,” chief executive officer of Thai AirAsia X Nadda Buranasiri said recently.
He said bags would be automatically checked through to the final destination. The service is available on selected short-haul Thai AirAsia and long-haul Thai AirAsia X services and the connection time is between 90 minutes and six hours.
Launched in April 22, Thai Air Asia X, an affiliate carrier of Thai AirAsia, became Thailand’s first low cost, long haul carrier. The airline will launch its first direct daily flights to Seoul in South Korea on June 17. It will also fly to Tokyo and Osaka Kansai around a month later and has its eyes set on China as a target destination in 2015.
“We expect around 30 percent of all passengers [from domestic destinations in Thailand and from neighboring countries] to connect to Japan and South Korea,” Buranasiri said.
Last year, Thai Air Asia carried over 10.5 million passengers, ending the year with a total fleet of 35 aircraft. Meanwhile, the Thai Immigration Bureau recorded that 594,251 Indonesians visited Thailand in 2013, an increase of 32.7 percent from the previous year.
Speaking during a media briefing in Bangkok, recently, Buranansiri said he was upbeat with the prospects of the two destinations because they had a visa exemption agreement with the Thai government.
Buranansiri, the former managing director of Warner Music Thailand, continued that South Korea and Japan were selected as the first destination in particular because young people in Thailand were fans of Japanese and Korean music, fashion and food.
He said during the remaining semester of this year alone, the airline targeted to serve some 200,000 passengers to the three destinations with a fleet of two Airbus A330-300 wide-body aircraft.
Head of commercial affairs at Thai AirAsia X Niruth Sripawatakul said he would seek cooperation with K-pop managements. Several days ago, his company offered 5,000 tickets, with prices starting from 1,990 Thai baht (US$61), as an attractive incentive for passengers.
“Our top premium seats will still be cheaper than the full service airlines. A one way ticket should be about 17,000 baht for a premium one way seat. Meanwhile, the highest fare for an economy seat should be about 11,000 to 12,000 baht,” he said.
Buranasiri said the two aircraft would be able to manage the three destinations and serve the targeted passengers.
He believed that the number of aircraft would give enough space for the employees to run the operation professionally and knowledgably, which would create a solid foundation for their business.
Even with the political turmoil in Bangkok, he was confident with the airline business, saying that Thai AirAsia had experienced ups and downs in the business for a decade.
“I would like to reiterate, even with the situation like this, we still think that it looks very promising. And to have two aircraft and to launch this month [April] is a good idea. If things go well we definitely will add to our fleet,” he said.

Will Thai Airasia X be stillborn? With the military coup, it would not be possible to do any meaningful flights from DMK. Perhaps they might switch their hub to CNX?

Thai AirAsia X eyes broad expansion

An aggressive expansion appears on the horizon for Thai AirAsia X (TAAX) with the addition of five wide-body jets and expanded coverage over Japan next year.

On the radar screen for Thailand's first long-haul low-cost carrier are services to four Japanese airports — Haneda (Tokyo), Nagoya, Fukuoka and Hokkaido.

TAAX, part of Malaysia-based AirAsia Group, will also make good its Sept 1 announcement to increase its Bangkok-Narita daily flight frequency to twice a day and its Bangkok-Osaka frequency to daily from five flights a week, starting on March 26.

Thai Airasia X to suspend Bangkok-Sapporo flights

Thai AirAsia X, the country's largest budget long-haul carrier, will temporarily suspend services from Bangkok to Sapporo in Japan from Aug. 1 due to a downgrade of Thailand's aviation safety rating.
Thai AirAsia X, part of Malaysia's AirAsia X Bhd, will continue to fly to Tokyo and Osaka in Japan and Seoul in South Korea, it said in a statement on Monday.
Thailand's civil aviation body is under scrutiny after the United Nation's International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) last week downgraded its safety rating for failing to properly oversee airlines under its jurisdiction.

It would appear that Thai Airasia X will be the first airline in the Airasia X Group to take delivery of the A330-900 (Neo). MSN 1901/1903 are previously allocated to WOW but these were not taken up due to their current poor business and financial position.

It would appear that Thai Airasia X is in a hurry before Thai Lion and Nok Scoot becomes more competitive. The fact that they have appointed the CEO of Thai Airasia X as the Group CEO is proof of where the focus will lie in the near term.

It would be interesting to see if the Neo Airspace cabin will be better than their current offering.

Any guesses as to what routes the A330 Neo will fly for Thai Airsia X?

@flee

it is not a nice way to delete my original post about the A330neo to TAX without any notice and then open a new thread by yourself ;-)!

As i wrote several times, they will fly from DMK to Europe and maybe to Avalon-Melbourne.

And thats not cause the new Group-CEO is from Thailand.

The volume on Europe-Thailand is much much bigger than to Malaysia, thats a fact.

I am sorry if you are offended.

However, I am not a moderator and have no way of deleting any posts or threads.

This post is about Thai Airasia X and it was started by some other Malaysian Wings member (see page 1). I merely posted my thoughts in this thread about the airline.

Once again, my apologies. No malice was intended.
