2014 Singapore Airshow, Changi Exhibition Centre, Singapore

No confirmation of the Bayi Aerobatic team from the PLAAF (Bayi as in 八一)? In any case, this team seems a certainty from certain well-placed sources.

Yes, the Osprey should be quite a stunner.

And MSN 3 is currently doing cold weather testing: http://www.airbus.com/newsevents/news-events-single/detail/a350-xwb-msn3-commences-cold-weather-testing-in-iqaluit-canada/

I wonder if it will fly directly from Canada or go back to TLS enroute to SIN.

This is the 4th unit already? It felt almost like forever when the first one was still in the forming stage, from being pulled out of the Beluga, to the joining of the fuselage sections, to the wing assembly all the way to the engine assembly.

Colour scheme looks great on the 350.

Singapore Airshow 2014. CAPA view on the year's outlook for airframe manufacturers. Part 1: Airbus

After record ordering and deliveries in 2013 for commercial aircraft, 2014 is set to be another busy one for the world’s major aircraft manufacturers and their aircraft programmes. With the Singapore Airshow imminent, a new round of speculation is occurring, with much of it focussed on whether the array of new orders will lead to excess capacity, especially in the Southeast Asian market.

Boeing and Airbus are busy producing – and selling – next generation widebody programmes and re-engined narrowbodies. Bombardier is working to perfect and deliver its CSeries to customers. Embraer is starting the development of its second-generation E-Jets and ATR is trying to get its shareholders to agree to an all-new 90-seat turboprop. Elsewhere, major next generation regional jet, turboprop and narrowbody projects continue to mature in China and Russia, threatening an end to the set of not-so-cosy duopolies that have dominated the commercial aircraft manufacturing landscape for most of the past decade.
In this series of pre-Singapore articles, CAPA looks at what might be in store from each of the major manufacturers this year, along with some possibilities for the future; also, what’s happening outside the western airframe manufacturers.
Airbus, flying high from 2013
Airbus finished 2013 on a high. The company not only recorded both a record year for orders, with 1,503 net and 1,619 gross orders – a book to bill ratio of 2.5 to 1 – and managed to deliver an all-time record 626 aircraft.
It also finished the year with a record order book of more than 5,550 aircraft, of which more than 3,400 are for types that have yet to enter service. Success has flowed from Airbus’ two newest programmes, the A350 XWB and the A320neo, but the A380 and A330 also had a better than anticipated year in 2013.

Airbus’s A350 Takes Break From Tests to Visit Singapore

Feb. 10 (Bloomberg) --- Airbus Group NV (AIR) showcased its A350 aircraft in Singapore, the first full display of the wide-body airliner at an international air show, as the planemaker seeks to build on Asian orders.
The new aircraft, set to begin commercial service with Qatar Airways Ltd. in the fourth quarter of this year, is on static display and will participate in flying tomorrow and the day after at the Singapore Airshow, said Fernando Alonso, senior vice president for flight and integration tests.
The A350’s appearance at Singapore is evidence that flight tests have advanced enough for Airbus to take the jet out for a few days. The aircraft has won 814 orders from 39 customers so far, from carriers including Singapore Airlines Ltd. (SIA) and Japan Airlines Co. (9201) The region accounts for 30 percent of the aircraft’s total sales.
“It’s been quite remarkable and way beyond our expectations,” Alonso told journalists at Changi airport in Singapore where the plane landed Feb. 8 after stopping in Doha to visit its first customer. “We used to fly 50 to 55 hours a month” on former flight tests programs, he said. “On the A350 we’ve been routinely flying 100 hours a month, because of the extremely good preparation” done in advance of flights.

Singapore Airshow 2014. A CAPA preview Part 2: Boeing ramps up production as backlogs climb

Boeing delivered a record 648 aircraft in 2013 and the manufacturer is set to continue to break its own delivery records in 2014. With plentiful demand for its narrowbody and widebody aircraft, Boeing continues to raise production even as its backlog continues to build, now standing at a record 5,080 aircraft.

Although wary of raising output too high, given issues with sections of its supply chain and its own manufacturing facilities, Boeing is also confident that there will be no production bubble. The company plans to deliver between 715 and 725 aircraft in 2014, an increase of around 10%, as it increases deliveries of its popular 737NG and 787 families.
Boeing booked 1,355 net orders in 2013, its second highest annual sales performance on record. The company’s orders have been buoyed not only by the continued popularity of the 737 MAX, a re-work of the 737NG with new engines and enhanced aerodynamics, as well as by the launch of two new programmes, the long-awaited 787-10 and the 777X, which recorded better than 400 orders between them in 2013.

The A350 XWB says “good bye” to Singapore

With a tip of its wings to signal “good-bye,” the A350 XWB departed Singapore today for its Toulouse, France base of operations, completing a highly successful tour that began in Qatar and wrapped up with a starring appearance at the 2014 Singapore Airshow.
While at Singapore, this A350 XWB – the MSN3 developmental aircraft – literally made headlines as the jetliner was visited by airline customers, pilots, industry executives, the media and others, while also participating in the air show’s daily flying display.
Its non-stop return flight to Toulouse of approximately 15 hours will add to more than 1,000 hours already logged by MSN3 and its “sister” MSN1 aircraft, which will joined soon by two more A350 XWBs, along with a fifth in May.
“For this A350 XWB tour, we’ve been able to combine two goals: the continuation of flight testing, while also presenting the aircraft to the airlines and industry for the first time,” said Patrick du Ché, the Head of Development Flight Tests at Airbus. “We really enjoyed being at Singapore. And while we’re sad to leave, all of us are ready to return home and continue the progress toward the A350 XWB’s type certification and the startup of deliveries this year.”
Before the aircraft was moved from its static display location at Changi Exhibition Centre, there was a final burst of activity as air show attendees lined up to go aboard. For many, this was the first time they visited a developmental aircraft, providing an opportunity to see the extensive flight test instrumentation and systems.
After being transferred to an active runway at the adjacent Changi Airport, the A350 XWB took off and provided its final salute to the 2014 Singapore Airshow before heading home.
