Rumour has it that MRU will be scrapped in the middle of 2017.

i think MRU was launched in anticipation of receiving approvals from South Africa to operate MRU-JNB. If this is not approved, D7 might find it difficult to continue KUL-MRU as demand isn't going to be sustainable.

Wow that is interesting. Never knew they had plans for a connection to JNB. Maybe things might change by mid 2017. Thanks Flee.

My aunt and uncle's flight got screwed and they bought the tickets in November I already told them months ago not to get newly launch routes :pardon:

Local lobby behind AirAsia X-Mauritius flight cancellation

 

AirAsia X Berhad confirmed the suspension of its services otherwise lucrative flights to Mauritius, citing operational restructuring and aircraft usage rationalisation.
But sources told the independent.sg the sudden decision could be due to peer pressure by local ethnic groups, lobbying to the authorities in Mauritius to stop the highly successful flights.
Nevertheless, AirAsia X Berhad today confirmed the suspension of its 3 times weekly
services from Kuala Lumpur to Mauritius. It was the only airline offering direct flights from Malaysia to Mauritius after the Air Mauritius stopped its direct flights last year.
The Malaysian airline said the last Kuala Lumpur – Mauritius service will be operated on 24 March 2017 while the last Mauritius – Kuala Lumpur service will be operated on 25 March 2017.

Sorry to hear, hope they can get it sorted soon. MRU must be one of short lived route, first flight was 6th Oct 2016.

Red tape happens everywhere.

It might be true that the locals don't like the competition.

 

However, it might also be true that D7 needs to use their plane more efficiently as the MRU layover is 13+ hours. This is because they had expected to fly a return leg to South Africa - but this has not happened. They could have changed the flight timings but opted not to. It could be that the Hawaii flights give better yield?

MK stopped its direct flight to KUL or non-stop flight?

Yes, it is now one stop via SIN.

So it is understandable MK is complaining - a D7 non stop flight will be more convenient than one that goes via SIN.

Thanks for the info flee; so that means MK now operating MRU-SIN-KUL. Do they have any freedom for SIN-KUL route?

Relatives had to fork out about additional MYR1.5K for 2 pax to get Air Mauritius now on the exact travel date and it is not a direct flight also.

AFAIK, they don't have the rights.

Yes, other than the launch fares, D7's MRU fares are not particularly low - they are just a bit lower than those charged by MK.

Relatives had to fork out about additional MYR1.5K for 2 pax to get Air Mauritius now on the exact travel date and it is not a direct flight also.

So MK has already benefited from the cancellation. Too bad your relatives are the victims!

My comment was for MK. They have been in red for quite some time, except two of past tens years. Last year was bumper profit as oil price is all time low.

AirAsia in August 2018 is ending service on Kuala Lumpur – Davao route, where it currently operates this route 4 times a week. Last flight on board the Airbus A320 aircraft for this route is scheduled on 20AUG18.

Must be 2 or 3 weeks ago in case of BTU-SIN.

 

Kuching will see some more flights starting from october:

 

Kuching-Sibu from 25/7 new 31/7

Kuching-Penang from 11/7 new 14/7

Kuching-Bintulu from 28/7 new 31/7

Kuching-Miri from 29/7 new 39/7

 

Kuching-Shenzhen so far only bookable till end of october...

 

Some news for Johor Bahru from october:

JHB-Alor Setar new 4/7

JHB-Ipoh new 4/7

JHB-Tawau from 4/7 new daily

JHB-Langkawi from 4/7 new daily

 

They will loose the route to Macau but will have 6 A320 fully planned from october.

They launched the route last december.

 

Kuching-Langkawi is canx too

 

But hey thats more or less normal. When you open 10 new routes you can be happy when 6 or 7 will be hits.
