MAS Seconday Hub at BKI Topic ?

Recommended Posts

..... the question is, are any airlines willing to take up the opportunity and fly to those destinations?

Of the Asean 'secondary points'

Bandar Seri Begawan - already connected, presumably doing well if judged by frequencies available

Singapore - already connected, not the goldmine it was in days way past now

Preah Sihanouk, Mataram, Luang Prabang, Chiang Mai - how likely anyone will fly to/from these places from BKI in the forseeable future ? :D

a destination except Yangon (Myanmar), a destination except Manila (the Philippines), a destination except Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam) - those countries yet to decide where I suppose

Of the Chinese cities, I think MH did try Haikou and Fuzhou previously (please correct me if otherwise) - dropped like hot bricks soon after

Chongqing and Chengdu were done on charter basis long time ago if not mistaken

Saw a cancelled charter from Changsha the other day

The others ...... :)

“Through the extra-package deals, the airlines are authorised to exercise fifth traffic rights for passenger and cargo services limited to 14 times a week using any type of aircraft for routes connecting 10 secondary points in Asean and 10 secondary points in China to any points outside Asean and China. “In this regard, the Asean countries have maintained their 10 secondary points while China has named Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guilin, Kunming, Nanning, Urumqi, Xi'an, Xiamen or Fuzhou and Zhengzhou and their 10 secondary points,” he said.

The regulators are still giving opportunity for airlines when it comes to trans-continental flights, albeit with less attractive deals compared with intra-continental ones. :)

MAS To Fly Direct To Shanghai From Kota Kinabalu

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is to fly direct from Kota Kinabalu to Shanghai, twice weekly, from Dec 11.

In a statement today, MAS said flight MH394 will depart Kota Kinabalu on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8.20 pm and arrive in Shanghai at 12.45 am the next day.

It said the inbound flight MH395 will depart Shanghai on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1.45 am and arrive in Kota Kinabalu at 6.25 am.

MAS has also increased direct connectivity between Kota Kinabalu and Hong Kong with two more weekly flights, from Dec 1.

The airline said it will re-introduce international connectivity from the Sabah capital to Perth on Dec 9 and to Osaka on Dec 20.

Meanwhile, MAS Regional Senior Vice President for Malaysia/Asean, Muzamil Mohammad said the introduction of more international direct flights to and from Kota Kinabalu meets the growing demand for premium connectivity to and from Sabah.

He added Kota Kinabalu is an ideal gateway for air travel to and from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, North Asia, Indonesia, and Australia.

MAS said it will be putting the new two-class configured Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 144 economy class seats and 16 business class seats to operate the Kota Kinabalu - Shanghai return service.

It said all-inclusive return fares Kota Kinabalu-Shanghai start from as low as RM1199 on economy class and RM3185 on business class for travel from Dec 11, 2012 to Sep 30, 2013.

The all-inclusive fares are available from now until Dec 17, 2012 through Malaysia Airlines' website www.malaysiaairlines.com, MHmobile, flymas.mobi, nationwide ticket offices, 24-hour toll-free Call Centre at 1300 88 3000 and all appointed travel agents.

MASholidays, the travel arm of MAS, is also offering a four days/three nights "Free and Easy" package from Kota Kinabalu to Shanghai from as low as RM966 per person, RM1310 per person to Hong Kong and seven days/six nights to Perth starting at RM2455 per person.

The BKI - PVG flight was advertised in the local daily and I thought it was another seasonal charter, from now till after CNY. However iirc you can still get RM999 return a week before departure.

pax for EY still acceptable...but GCC...... :nea: hehe

98/144 is like 68%, which is not very healthy. and 3/16 is about 19% load......very poor at the front!

maybe.....maybe it is the first flight, and promotions have not been very good.

since the flight is only once a week, they can simply push the load into 100%

Hotels in Perth are expensive and spending one whole week on holiday in Perth is a stretch, it won't be easy for MH to fill once a week flight.

Just noticed that today's BKI-PVG flight is actually depart at 8.20pm instead of 9.40pm which stated on airlineroute.net...meanwhile the return flight from PVG will arrive BKI around 6.30am, just like MH120 from PER...

It will be very uncomfortable in those tight seats for a flight that long. I really hope MH will increase the legroom a bit, even just 2 inches. Otherwise, I doubt the route will be successful.

Almost everything in Perth is expensive now.

One week is just nice for a decent holiday, but like what was mention it's about RM3 to 1AUD. I wonder if it would get axed abruptly if the load remain poor.

Past experience - yes (even when load was reportedly good) :)

I thought they have already pulled out the service quite a number of times, right?

If you mean BKI-PER vv specifically, then it has only been "pulled out" once before by anyone - this being the second time of asking :)

If you mean "failures" in more general sense ........

If KKIA is secondary hub, why does MAS pull-out all it's widebody service from KKIA?

Because of not enough passengers to fill the big planes up. Besides most destinations are within reach of the B737s.
