Another MH 330 return back to KUL earlier this morning. Still wondering how MH head of engineering is still holding on to his job. He should be sacked immediately.

9M-MTB operating MH66 KUL-ICN return to base due to hydraulic system failure. Pax moved to Movenpick and Mercure Putrajaya. Will leave tonight as MH66D at 20 00.

Off topic, surprisingly Qantas has also install the same new MH J class for 737 on their new A321XLR. Safran for J class, but they opted for Recaro BL3710 for  Y class. It will operate a mix of domestic and possibly short-haul international routes to places like Southeast Asia and islands in the Pacific Ocean.

The J pitch looks smaller than MH or is it an optical illusion?

Qantas states on their website, their seat pitch on A321XLR J class is 94cm (37in), Malaysia Airlines is 99cm (39in) on their refurbished B737-800/MAX. The non-refurbished one has 107cm (42in).

I am actually glad that MAG management has to face up to this embarrassing scrutiny before MH suffers another air crash. Far too often, in GLCs, there isn't much of a consequence for failure. Now, MAG is under close scrutiny from inside and outside the aviation industry - that is a good thing.

Storm over fate of Malaysia Airlines after mini-exodus of workers blamed on Singapore firm's presence in Subang

https://www.malaysianow.com/news/2024/09/02/storm-over-fate-of-malaysia-airlines-after-mini-exodus-of-workers-blamed-on-singapore-firms-presence-in-subang

Only half true. Not really a majority heading to the singapore firm. Prior to it massive resignation with them being split between Airasia Engineering, Malindo and emirates and a select few to Etihad.

Heard a story of a MAG LAE with b1 basic still at RM3500 even after working for 16years with a est take back home of only RM5000. Meanwhile joining Malindo the take back home can be up to RM18000 while airasia his basic climbs by RM1500 while the allowance is 2-3x higher and his take back home can be around 5 figures. Going to emirates or Etihad pay is converted to USD 12000-18000 plus tax free. Meanwhile Finance department refuses to buy aircraft parts in adequate amount since 2023 blaming on poor forex and prefer to wait till ringgit sort itself out and asking engineers to do short term repeated fixes that only increases the MEL item list as time goes by. Now there's part shortage even with Ringgit strengthened it is pretty useless as suppliers have opted to hike the price rate due to increased demands.

At the pilots department on the other hand. You have cadets coming in with basic of RM4000 with an annual increment of 3% but here's the catch there's a ceiling pay. Meanwhile these folks before even settling in on 737 are expected to be ushered into A330 asap with no progression on the basic nor any increment on top for going there. Another thing i have also see which is stupid. Senior officers who take up captaincy position there is no increase in basic what they earn in basic as a first officer will be the same as captaincy with only allowance being maybe 2x above the FO. Everyone is arguing to reinstate the pre covid pay which is not much but at least everyone's basic will rise by around RM1000-1500 and there's no ceiling on the basic.

At the cabin crew department they're taking only 1500 in basic with an average take back home of 4000. Meanwhile Management has hired Asean crew but the pay barely any higher from the locals. Most of those foreign cabin crew will also runaway even before the bond is finished.

Meanwhile all HR could bark is MAG attrition rate is slightly lower than Emirates there is nothing to worry about. Except everyone knows people don't intend to work in gulf for long. Its working there 2-5years taking loads of saving and coming back home in your local currency. HR is just barking on his own narrative.

That is why MAG forever has a turnover rate issue coming from the days they had to send a A380s to SIN and BKK for the mess except now they don't even have dugongs nor have any means to dry lease or wet lease other aircrafts.

So the bottom line is that MAG is not responding to the competition in the industry well. They are complacent because they have a sugar daddy.

Mere speculation on my part here - are they intending to park a few aircraft and cannibalize them for parts to keep the others flying more reliably ?

Would be a shame if it has come to this ... 🙄

It's mostly excessive bean counter regime in place. The sugar daddy is also not willing to pump unlike our neighbors.

Its the same issue with our airports and CAM services. Opening the AIP documentation there's 43 supplementary notices(some lingering since 2022 as unresolved) in 2019 you would only see 10-15 notices. BKI and KUL windsheer detection system is offline for more than 6 months. KUL stopbar lights have been offline for a year. SZB has no ILS since last year. Stuff like this are supposed to be fixed in no longer than 2 months. Even Kuantan's air force base TACAN system is offline. Everything is stuck in purgatory state. Meanwhile CAM has opted to hike pilots annual license renewal by 160% and increased the cost of many PPL related exams. They even have no budget to replace the learjet calibrator opting to dry lease a DA62 which is a significant downgrade due to budget. Airports like MYY, PEN, BKI,TWU in need of immediate upgrades are being constantly delayed back to back. The list is very long.

This was what airasia did by cannibalizing up to 18 stored aircrafts along with them not being too stingy in buying parts back in 2023. Meanwhile at MAG chinamen say ringgit weak lets wait it out to a point the ticking time bomb has indeed triggered.

this my view as well and the massive cut in domestic capacity  will drive up fares and yields.

I don't think they can do so, without their lessors' approval since most of their fleet are leased.

MH now turns off comment on their advertisement. Aiyo!~~~~~~

This is probably to curtail dumb people who keep putting their PNR and real name on social media. Anyone or organization who has nefarious intents can easily access the booking and obtain a lot of information about the passenger. I've seen quite a few people pretending to be from MH and trying to "assist" stranded passengers.

I don’t keep tracking and comparing MH fares with other competitor in the region. But from what I read their staff salaries are significantly lower than their competitor, meaning MH should have a lower staff cost base. I am curious if this cost advantage reflect on their fares pricing, ie more competitive in general comparing to its competitors in the region ?

Apparently, it is the XWB 97 that broke but CX decided to ground their whole fleet out of an abundance of caution.

They caught almost a dozen planes needing certain parts replacement from the inspection of 24 aircrafts. This A350 reliability fiasco was also hinted by Qatar a while ago regarding the engine reliability. Emirates has also criticized.

Rolls-Royce defends A350-1000 engine from Emirates criticism

Quote

Clark told reporters the engine of the aircraft was able to spend only a quarter of the time "on wing" between service visits, compared to expected levels, and said this amounted to a level of performance that he described as "defective".

While the engine maker generally picks up any direct excess maintenance costs as a result of increased shop visits under long-term service deals, the increased downtime is disruptive and costly for airlines.

The ability of some engines to cope with the most demanding environments without extra maintenance is one of the industry's most keenly debated issues, with U.S. supplier Pratt & Whitney in the firing line over this and other industrial snags.

The problem with most of these airline execs and finance fellas is they always try to push the envelope of the aircraft utilization rates. Doing a few take offs and landings in a single day vs just 1 for a widebody guarantee certain parts will need inspection more than what was warranted by the supply chain. Now made worse with everything being very frequency minded. In the old days 10-14hours per day was the norm, now you have them talking in the idea of using the planes up to 18hours doing multi legs in a single day.

Yes, stress on the aircraft is the greatest during take off and landing phases. Cruising is the easiest part of the flight.

I think they are all spoilt by the exceptional reliability of the CFM/56 that they think it is the same for all turbine engines. But we must remember that the origins of the CFM-56 is military grade. So it is tougher.
