They've finally hit the brakes.

More like cornered, found out so put their hands up.

Not sure if you are on any of the MH FB groups but it's clear to see that things were starting spiral out of control.

It is good to see that the poor management decisions had severe consequences. Yet, they still blame supply chain issues when these have been going on for some time already. It shows that they have not mitigated the problems and are now rightly suffering the consequences of their inaction. I am so glad I did not book my long haul flights with MH this year.

Nice PR move. Released this on a Saturday afternoon so it'll be dead by Monday. Are they going to lease some A333/B738 soon or are they still bargain hunting? It does seem like they are too optimistic about scheduling if this is going to affect flights all the way to December, or perhaps they have learned not to schedule flights too tightly counting on perfect operations.

Looking at flight availability for a week in September, I hope they have manpower to deal with the massive cancelations. Quite a few flights are already zeroed out. If they do cancel all these zeroed out flights, MH pax are in for a wild ride at least until end of September. Cities such as MEL and SYD are down to maybe 7-10 flights a week, most ICN/NRT daytime flights ex-KUL and some redeye ex-KUL are all zeroed out along with some flights to AKL, PVG, PKX, KIX. The "safest" routes seem to be India, DOH, and LHR.

So hey, MASwings must then be the star performer within the group, no ?! ?

I believe TPE as well

Anything with an A330 or A350 is at risk and I expect teh A330's to be pulled from BKK. CGK and possibly DPS.

One they have moved the passengers around then there will be very little capacity so expect the prices to be high.

Not really. MASwings has been regularly experiencing flight delays and cancellations the past few months. Example: yesterday's BKI-LBU 8.15am flight delayed to 5.30pm. Imagine the horror for passengers who were planning meetings/day-trips to Labuan.

MASwings is also at the end of its exit process from MAG. Apparently sold to Sarawak state govt at an undisclosed amount. Sources say cutover to their new owner is due by end of this year. Hence not much focus on that entity for now.

That is affirmative for BKK. 330 flights to BKK flight gone and I am one of those affected. Oddly enough, I am seeing 359 being sent to PVG!

They canceled one of my flights and out of curiosity, I just clicked on the cancel and refund page. They have the audacity to charge a penalty for a refund! If anyone is in similar situation and wants a refund, just file a chargeback from your credit card (never ever use debit card, e-wallet, bank transfer etc. for an air ticket) or file a MAVCOM complaint. They are required to provide you a full refund (or partial refund based on the segments you've flown) by Mavcom.

If we had the culture of japan, MAG and a few board folks would be doing a press conference apologizing to everyone including staffs for the big mistake. CAAM and Mavcom would also be seen stepping in visually to make it look like there are attempts to rectify many of the issues. But alas we're stuck with an image and chat prompt essay blaming everything except themselves for the mess and CAM mavcom and MOT on autopilot with "do something pls".

I think i recall what one of our vestige ministers was saying that "berdebat bukan budaya kita". ?

We don't even need to look as far as Japan - just take a look down south, at Singapore. Things like what is happening at MH will simply not happen at SQ.

CAAM/MAVCOM and MOT is again failing the industry. All these people only care about their fat pay cheques and nothing else!

You know what's a big pay cheque? Bringing airlines to court when they pull these sort of things and get a hefty fine out of them. Clearly some airlines are selling flights they are intending to cancel. This is fraud.

Which alternative flight have they offered you? If you want a free refund for a non flexi ticket then you usually need to contact them

I was on MH779 on Friday, operated by MTX and the J cabin is in a very poor condition.

Malaysia Airlines quietly launched Balikpapan (BPN) with twice weekly flight, every Monday and Friday.

First flight from BPN with 79 pax landed at KUL on August 21, 2024 on August 12, 2024.

Well they offered me the 2150 flight (MH796) where all the other earlier flights are still available, just not in my booking class. I wasn't going to refund, I was just curious if they'd do a no-penalty refund. And I'd take the 332 J cabin over the 73H J cabin anytime lol. For a 2 hour flight, that seat is pretty comfy especially if you are in 2K.

They canceled my flight but my flight was also an A332 that's quite full (something like <5 seats available both front and back).

I think that forcing them to rebook you on alternative flight is the best answer as a refund will be their way out of the contract. Besides, if you have to book it yourself, it is likely to cost more.

We’re booked on MH126 on the 31/10 PER-KUL and have received the seat change notification this morning, flight has been downgraded from a A333 to a 738W.

They should deploy the Max on their 5-6 hour sectors as a partial solution to the loss of their widebodies. Stop using them for domestic and short flights.
