I am curious if MH plans to switch MH70 (daytime flight to NRT) to a redeye flight. They seem to be operating on that schedule for the past 5 days. I assume MH can't get an aircraft turnaround to meet the curfew hence they are doing delaying it by about 10 hours and operate it as a redeye. Just like their previous LHR mess, isn't it better to cancel just one flight and do a reset instead of delaying 5 flights?! At some point when the schedule mismatch the number of planes, it's easier to cancel a few flights rather than delaying a lot of flights (speaking of which, MH 388 to PVG, MH 366 to TPE, and MH 88 to NRT was canceled yesterday).

3/7 A350's are AOG and things are messy again. Silence from the  MH management and media. Nobody seems to care 

9M-MAB - AOG KUL
9M-MAG - MRO
9M-MAH - AOG DOH

LHR and DOH ops are a mess and reports from DOH are that the QR staff are not dealing this with very well.

That's like half of MH's long-haul fleet already. Imagine if such ratio happened to SQ, that would instantly paralyse the airline already.

yes but SQ would have identified the risk and managed it years ago but ordering more planes and ensuring that the maintenance top standard.

What a way to sweep the current issues under the carpet. Nothing is firmed, just a press release to gain attention for the mess they are in now and yet they get away with it. It would have been a bashing by now had it been another local carrier.

Been hearing about new a/c RFP for a while. Each media release they will mention postponed till forever. While every other airlines are jumping straight to order announcement.

MAG hopes Boeing won't delay delivery of Malaysia Airlines' aircraft

 

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines parent Malaysia Aviation Group is all but confident of receiving seven of the 25 Boeing B737 MAX 8 under the first batch order this year.

MAG group managing director Datuk Captain Izham Ismail said he hopes that the number of the narrowbody aircraft delivery would not be reduced further.

"We were supposed to receive 12 (narrowbody aircraft) but now it's seven. Will the number drop further? Maybe.

"We hope not, but we have made arrangements to extend (the lease of) some of our current B737-NG (new generation) already," he told Business Times in an interview recently.

Izham added that despite the delay of the new aircraft delivery, Malaysia Airlines' capacity will not be reduced.

MAG had executed its first batch of new aircraft order for Malaysia Airlines as part of the national carrier's fleet renewal programme with 25 B737 MAX 8 in 2017 and 20 A330neo in 2022.

Malaysia Airlines had received four B737 MAX 8 – two in 2023 and another two earlier this year.

The national carrier expects to receive its first A330neo by September this year.

On the upcoming new widebody aircraft, the B777X, he said the airplane's network range is as good as the A350, which Malaysia Airlines has in its fleet.

"Maybe 20 years from now (to purchase the B777X) but today we must be very careful on what airplane we invest in," he added.  

The B777X would be the largest commercial widebody aircraft since Airbus had stopped production of its superjumbo A380.

In July, Boeing began certification test flights for its new aircraft type with the US Federal Aviation Administration – a testament that the aircraft was inching closer to receiving green light to begin production and enter passenger service.  

The B777X was supposed to enter into service in 2025 but a series of certification delays have pushed back its production.  

Malaysia Airlines had operated six A380 from 2012 until the carrier sent all of its superjumbo jets to Tarbes, France in 2022 as part of a deal believed to be made between the carrier and Airbus following the purchase of the first batch of A330neo airplanes.

Izham said it is crucial for Malaysia Airlines to operate a new fleet so that MAG could manage a better cost structure and offer improved product and services to its passengers instead of continuously flying ageing airplanes.

"We cannot continue to operate ageing airplanes. No doubt our airplanes are safe but our planes are tired. That requires investment," he added.

Seems like MH is giving yesterday's (19th Aug.) MH 128 from MEL pax a tour of Australia's outback after a mechanical issue (unconfirmed: engine failure) forced them to divert to Alice Springs. MH is arranging with QF to shuttle them out to other cities to fly pax to their final destination. 9M-MTJ is the frame involved. 

And in other news, MH has finally introduced a more well-known coffee brand to its on-board catering. illy coffee will now be served alongside with Nescafe Gold Blend 😬

Its 9M-MTJ again, this failed in SYD a few weeks again with an engine issue. 

Wonder if it's the same engine and same issue.

9M-MTG Harimau Malaya finally exited the hangar after three months. Was supposed to to MH386 to PVG, return to base due to faulty engine. Not an auspicious start to her.

Top management still delusional about whats happening at the bottom line. This is what happen when they are overworked and underpaid with low morale.

My apologies, RTB due to cabin pressurization problem.

China Southern Airlines just sold seven A330-300 with PW engines to VAS Aero Services. Maybe they can lease them or its engines? Their 16 A330-323s are almost same age than MH's, but haven't heard they have as many issues as MH.

Seems like quite a few widebody flight are canceled today. MH 194 to BOM, MH 52 to KIX, MH 66 to ICN, and MH 88 to NRT. On top of that, MH is operating flights to/from NRT that's connects to/from AA/JL's US flights seamlessly for the next 2 days.

MH89 1725KUL - KUL2350

Is MH operating to cities like ICN, PKX, NRT whenever they feel like it? Their schedule just changes whenever. I think it was last week when they were operating 2 redeye to NRT for a few days straight. PKX is almost always delayed until the MH140 inbound arrives, so leaving around 5-6AM.

And I am curious if someone will bring a Malaysian carrier to court like what they did in Australia with QF. Malaysia based carriers are definitely selling tickets knowingly they will cancel (and cancelation usually comes a few days before flights) due to aircraft availability or just low loads.

JUST IN: Another diversion by MH.

Date: August 22, 2024, today Thursday

Malaysia Airlines A330-223 9M-MTY operating MH152, bound for Medinah was diverted back to KUL due to unknown reason. Safely landed two hours ago. Fight departed four hours late.

Too early to speculate the reason behind the diversion. Reached 13,000 feet only, possibly pressurization problem?

The 16 years old airframe is ex-TAM and airberlin, joined MAG on December 26, 2018.

Those china southern frames are firmed to be broken down for spare parts collection. It seems many A330 PW users will be eyeing for those frames bits and pieces to stock up.

The current mess with dispatch reliability is the ticking timebomb already detonating and the worse part it has been warned repeatedly since last year to bulk up but the board and upper management are just too busy with collecting money and KPIs.

Stuff like hoarding spare parts and retaining valuable talents to ensure smooth MRO process were never the managements main focus. Its "You dont like it! Get out!" and let all the scary responsibility be hold upon by the new underpaid, inexperienced folks who just are about to be grilled even more heavily onto the frying pan. At the sole end these new folks will also runaway asap with morale being so low bottom. But i can already anticipate mr.hr scientist would just open up another scam pool to mass hire more newbies and repeat the same mistakes just to score some savings that are most probably already derailed by passenger compensation and aircraft parking charges overseas lol.

Worse part of it all it seems the ministry of transport and the msian press are in nyanyuk mode about the current state of air travel in Malaysia even the prospect of entering a career into the airline industry in msia is all scam like now. 🤣

Looks like MAG and Malaysia needs an air crash investigation to wake up. Its been 10 years since those twin disasters. Pray hard that this does not happen again and that they wake up before another air crash.

Seems like MH just canceled quite a number of flights for the next 2 weeks. One my flights was consolidated and flights to NRT, ICN, PKX, PVG, SYD (literally no flights to SYD on 29/8), MEL, and the list goes on. I am curious when will their network will just collapse at this point. Daytime flights to NRT/ICN seems to be canceled for most days except for 1-2 remaining service with some crazy schedule change.

The big test will come in about 3 weeks during the school holidays and the Malaysia Day long weekend.
