Not sure what happened with MAG purchase of 36 ATR 72-600s back in 2013. 20 firm orders + 16 options. It was one of the ATR's largest order for that year. Only 12 were delivered and the first copy only saw operation with FY for only three years, and the last was only in operation for four months before they were sent away.

Last heard the option to execute the remaining atr's can be done its just up to MAG. They may also allow MAG to transfer some of the unfulfilled orders to ATR EVO as the turboprop market has not been doing that well so far. Unfortunately limited funding and cash reserve it can only commit the 737 and 330 replacement.

I still think it was stupid for the state gov of east msia and MOT to bulldozed the operational flight subsidies for the 600 series. They were adamant for MASwings to use the atr72-500 like the old fokker days until it rots after 15-16 years of use then probably only signalling for a new aircraft order. Aircrafts are just not that long lasting nowadays. Also for them to think Airasia would takeover RAS completely in 2016 knowing there are still so many airports in east msia not capable of handling a320s and these type of flights are in no way profitable commercially.

Its same old buy new stuff and use em til it rot no renewal nor upkeep while the neighbours are not that stupid.

One thing i did notice overseas was the regional jet fares technically being slightly higher than the 320/737 counterpart throughout. Not sure if msia would be able to accept it or not knowing we are a very price sensitive market.

As for operational issue in SZB. New gen aircrafts are technically quiet and should not be a noise burden nowadays. Raya 767 757 and old days 727 were a lot more noisier and as of today they still have early 2am morning arrivals not forgetting RMAFs c130s and a400ms so doubt noise concerns is the issue. SZB is just being constrained to avoid cannibalizing part of KLIAs traffic hence the turboprops only while Raya operating as cargo were not affected.

FY/OD (prop) fares are a notch higher than the equivalent at KLIA for most part (comparing FY and MH, OD prop vs OD jet, not with AK). About Rm20-50 higher each way (at least in my experience).

I thought SZB is strictly prop (RMAF etc are exempted) and KLIA is for jet services, although I maybe wrong (not for noise control but they didn't want to cannibalize KLIA traffic as you say).

Looks like the controversially reconfigured -MXV has finally re-entered service this morning on a KL-TWU-KL rotation. Does anyone know what they ended up doing with the J class cabin/seats?

J cabin fitted with 12 Safran z500 seats. KUL-TWU pure j customers do not necessarily take up 16 seats so unlikely anyone got downgraded. Though websites are still selling 16seats for other flights that mxv may fly to so its may be potential nightmare there.

Also i am not sure if they have fixed the inseat power supply shortage though. MXV deployment was initially delayed as passengers seated on the Isle, window seat do not have charging capability for their portable devices as the vendor was unable to supply them on schedule with the current usb c global shortage. Guess in the end they still have to fly them. Passengers on the middle seat will have fast charging capability and all passengers on business class are unaffected.

Wireless IFE is working except some stuff still had to be done manually by the cabin crew as well.

MASwings Chief Operating Officer, Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar explained, “After a thorough business review, we have taken a difficult decision to discontinue our operations into Tarakan. Summer seasonal flights 😛. This weekend is beginning of winter schedule.

I find it odd that they FY can fly PEN-HKT 4x on 738 but MH won't let them do at least once daily PEN-SIN (their previous 2-3 weekly flights were awful).

In other news, MH will add southern summer seasonal flights to SYD and MEL.

SYD goes from 14x 330 to 15 x 330

MEL goes for 14x 330 to 14x 330 and 2x 359

Did an intern forgot to update MH's winter schedule? 😂 Is MH really upping their frequencies to CGK 5 daily beginning this Sunday? And DPS from 10x to 21x 😂

Similar for Singapore. This is a big uplift from the current 3-4 per day however the 332/333 is no more.

Pity about their BKI-PEN and KCH-PEN services though, dropped just like that, FY must have really beaten the stuffing out of AK there 😄

Malaysia Airlines launches Kuala Lumpur-Yogyakarta twice-weekly direct flights

https://www.malaymail.com/news/money/2022/11/02/malaysia-airlines-launches-kuala-lumpur-yogyakarta-twice-weekly-direct-flights/37055

JAKARTA, Nov 2 — Malaysia Airlines has launched a new twice-weekly direct flight between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Yogyakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday and Sunday, effective today.

Flight MH857 departs KUL to Yogyakarta at 5.40pm and flight MH856 departs Yogyakarta to KUL at 8.30pm, will be operated by 160-seater B737-800 aircraft, the airline said in a statement.

The new service marks its network expansion strategy, bringing the existing network within Indonesia to six cities, including Jakarta, Denpasar, Surabaya, Medan and Pekanbaru.

Hope this time the route will last longer. This is MH's third attempt for Yogyakarta. First attempt was to replace GA between February 2008 until August 2011, x257 with B737-400. Then it resumed from June 2018 with 4 weekly 737-800 service, and it was very shortlived, suspended few months later.

Is it lucky for MH to get the HND slot or has the Japanese is releasing a new slot from other airline?

I could not get to open Mavcom website to check on the allocation. I think MH should have four slots now? Two for landings and two for take off, before this was nil after the controversial share swap Uncle Tony took everything with him. AirAsia X is also back at Haneda two days ago, 3 x weekly (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). MH has Sunday, Wednesday, Friday. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Well, maybe they can have another one of those 'MOU to explore possibility of purchase' drawn up quickly, to be presented at any upcoming PM of MY (whoever it may be) meeting with POTUS as proof of MY's commitment towards US's economic growth and prosperity ? 😁

JP gave MY another 7 weekly (non daytime) HND traffic rights provided that Malaysian operator code-shares with a Japanese carrier on the new HND flight. MH can increase HND to daily now if it wants to but I don't think that'll happen until NS23. Mavcom had already allocated those 7 traffic rights to MH earlier this year. Let's see if JP will re-allocate RU's daytime slots (like Heathrow did).

Traffic rights, more often than not, are given in multiples of 7. Airlines don't usually tow their planes e.g. from HND to NRT if only 7 was given to HND whilst unlimited at NRT.

MH needs a new social media/PR team. Who launches/resumes a new flight without any hoo-haa or at least give some sort of advance notice. I didn't even know they fly to Pekanbaru now! They can follow how UA teases their followers with new routes and announce it with a bang. Their social media is all about Journify and not much more. These social media posts or press release aren't expensive. At the very least, put it on their website!
