MAS Privatisation

He might lead an airline that many adore (including myself), but that doesn't make him a saint. You think the airline emerged from blockade unscathed? Ask Al Baker if he thought the airline could pull through without turning to the government for (even more) help. Or whether he could go on a shopping spree without getting blank cheques from the government. Those purchases around the world are not to be mistaken as a demonstration of the airline's success. Unless, of course, one chooses to ignore the political part of the equation.

Let's not be so naive in thinking that QR is a rags to riches story :)

No, I am not that naive to think so, too bad other airlines do not have such generous government to give out blank paycheck as Qatar Government does, or having a government to turn to when politic environment gets tight, but does that matter because at the end of the day Baker continue to move and shake the world?? Which airline in the world has not gain benefit from their own government favourable policies?

The world still turn, Qatar Airways still in business and gobbling down airlines as an opportunist.

Well Etihad found out that not all investments will come through...

Aviation is both a capital and labour intensive industry - so most new airlines are started by the government. Even the privately owned American carriers need government policies to be supportive for their smooth and profitable operations. Malaysia Airlines has already swallowed up a huge amount of taxpayers' money and does not have much to show for it - so lets hope that the Mahatir government can finally "corrrect" one of his first PM term's mistakes.

There is no doubt QR receive state support, so is MAB. What matter is efficient use of resources. MH at one period of time had similar opportunity, blank cheques from the gomen; had stake in airlines in Cambodia, Maldives; cargo operation in Germany, air cargo material handling, etc. It is a question of management skill and competency. Whether Al Baker ventures will end in success or failure, only time can tell.

Looking at the way and method QR expand its routes e.g. LGK, most if not all of QR routes are sustainable.

Do you mean QR's expansion to CWL, DAD, KBV, PIS, AGP, CBR (and previously served UTP) are sustainable? LGK hasn't even proved itself yet (and a pretty seasonal destination too).

LGK was tagged to PEN for sometime, QR should have good data to start DOH-LGK. QR has a range of aircraft, could adjust to seasonal demand.

The difference is Qatar Airways does not go on shopping spree unlike Etihad Airways and got themselves into trouble.

Looks like this round they have not attracted any successful bidder, time to put it up on sale again.

It seems after conducting due diligence, the successful investor need to pump in a few hundred millions $ over a few years before MAB could breakeven and current fleet mix couldn't be deliver yield needed to breakeven.

QR hasn't started flying to LGK yet. Not for at least another month. You mean QR has a range of aircraft so they chose one of their biggest aircraft to places like AGP?

Dr M says govt still looking at solution for Malaysia Airlines

KUALA LUMPUR: The government is still looking at solutions for troubled Malaysia Airlines Bhd, which is majority-owned by Khazanah Nasional Bhd, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

"It’s not easy.. we have done a lot. The previous government gave them RM6 billion and sacked 6,000 people, and in addition, reduced the number of flights.

"So, if you reduce the personnel and the number of flights, the ratio between personnel and the activities doesn’t change,” he said in an interview with the BFM radio station here on Tuesday.

Malaysia Airlines pursues expansion in Indonesia with four new secondary destinations

New Indonesian destinations for Malaysia Airlines are Kertajati, Padang, Solo & Pekanbaru.

Read more here: https://blueswandaily.com/malaysia-airlines-pursues-expansion-in-indonesia-with-four-new-secondary-destinations/

So MH is returning to Padang? They used to fly there, during the last days of the old airport and the early days of the new one. Then, as usual, they give it away to low-cost competitors.

Both are making losses no sane company would merge them both lol.

Mathematically it makes sense - two negatives make a positive :D

(sanity ? none here, look elsewhere please)

Khazanah have not learnt their lesson - MAB will be sucked dry by Airasia X Group.

But it is not good for Airasia X Group either - the vastly different corporate DNA and cultures will ensure that they will never fit together. End result - both will die.

Of course not, different people who disregards past lessons.

As for AirAsia X, I doubt they'll die if they absorb MAS. More likely MAS will be killed and AirAsia X will be bailed out. TF will then be smiling & laughing all the way to the bank.

Very disappointing news... i always thought that khazanah was a well run company but the recent selling spree and the fact that they didnt learn from last time with regards to air Asia and mas tells me otherwise!! Wow. These are people entrusted with billions of ringgit.

Just chuck them down the drain lah. So stupid.

Also, have they forgotten about TF and his jibby liveried airplane??
