Hopefully MAB should lease at least 6 former Jet Airways 777-300ER if they want to expand flights and also sell of the 6 current A380s

They have already got 6 A350s to replace the A380s - the whalejets are surplus to requirements and are used for Amal and other charters. Occasionally, they are used as supersubs for other fleet aircraft during peak travel seasons. There is no second hand demand for A380s - so MAB is just making the best use of what they have.

 

Do note that the A350s are not fully utilised for long haul routes - they are currently used on Japan routes and sometimes for Aussie flights. So there is no real need for additional aircraft. E.g. MAB can easily deploy A350s to a new EU route (e.g. AMS) should they decide to expand to another city in EU.

For the moment they can sweat their A350 out with LHR, Seoul, NZ, Tokyo, MEL and SYD rotation, order more A350 by swapping A380 with Airbus.

 

Redeploy their A330 on last five to elsewhere, high demand regional routes. Retire few more B738(especially hantu) , and switch 737-max8 order to Max-10 for 2-4 hours high demand short haul. They should now be finalising new NB J and Y products. Flat bed for regional maybe? Or something better than current product.

And clean their cabin more often.. Their air vent...omg. Lol

I think you'll be disappointed. They're not retiring the Hantus, but extending the leases, albeit with some cabin refresh. Still a lot of uncertainty with the max at this stage.

Yes, I heard about the lease too. It is so cheap that MH is paying almost peanut to lessor. Sigh....

 

MH should switch to 737max 9 or 10 if they can't get their deposit back. Airbus is no go too, their 320neo is booked solid for 9.5 years.

737 max will eventually returned to service.

If the company is taking up new fresh orders. Otherwise bulk of those purchases came from leasing houses. Which means, new A320neo's are available on the lease market. Just that the price might not be attractive.

Nothing against the hantus. If they bring the cabin up to mark it should address the complaints.

Well, the hantus survived the 2014 restructuring due to their low cost. A cabin refresh to bring them up to standard is all that is needed.

 

I am not so sure if MAB actually needs new narrowbodies for the foreseeable future. Maxs and NEOs are more expensive to buy and lease. Their fuel economy gains are only significant on longer flights. With oil prices not rising above USD100, ROI will not be particularly attractive.

 

There is also the problem with the supply chain at both Airbus and Boeing. Both the Neo and the Max deliveries are subject to delays.

 

It is probably better to let these issues die down before ordering anything. In any case, MAB can take initial orders from the leasing companies - so should get them quite quickly.

There are some news circulating that 4 parties are interested in buying MAS. Qatar is one of them....

 

Is this for real? But there is a saying due to geopolitics in the middle east, Qatar might lose their bid....

Jentayu Danaraksa - Firm that tried to buy out MAS in 2014 from Khazanah, if you all may recall. One of their members include Shukor Yusof, former Standard & Poor's aviation analyst

 

Weststar Aviation - Mainly General Aviation and Helicopter charter service company. Partly owned by mega private equity firm KKR

 

Group backed by Qatari Investors - Most interesting out of the lot, but the most mysterious thus far. Rumored to already been active in the Malaysian aviation scene with shareholdings in major entities, but very discreetly.

Well they were rumored to be one of the 4 as pointed out by Jani.

I believe that Qatar are trying to diversify their assets. With the current political situation, it may be wise because an airline like QR can suffer due to measures taken against Qatari businesses. Having some foreign assets will help reduce the risk of Qatar getting into economic difficulties.

Surely QR don't need MH, considering they have IAG in their hands, which is far more profitable.

Need to correct this a bit. The rumored four is excluding the Qatar group, who are instead BEHIND some of the groups.

 

The fourth group is led by ex-CEO of MAS Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman.

 

Meanwhile, Weststar was sort of nominated by Khazanah, and will likely partner with Datuk Pahamin's group.

 

 

Surely QR don't need MH, considering they have IAG in their hands, which is far more profitable.

 

Maybe IAG will the be ultimate entity owning it? Jeng jeng jeng.... ;)

Imagined if Temasek group is one of them.... though very controversial and highly unlikely... :p

Little-known fact:

 

GIC (Singapore's other Sovereign Wealth Fund), owns a bit more than 1% of Malaysia Airports ;)

 

That stake is worth about RM200m today

More like the shareholder placing its guy to act as the internal liaison person to deal with Morgan Stanley whom the shareholder had retained to work on MHs future ownership direction.

Well to be fair, it looks like he was already with MAS for close to 6 years in 2007. He's just coming back. Wish him all the best. Tough role, as we all know.
