Why is it after Muller's resignation announcement, news starts pouring about changes to Meals, uniform

Maybe Muller was blocking all of this?

Doubt so, he did previously already mention that these were all part of the plan. More likely these press release were all timed to be after his announcement as a way of saying "the show goes on" and improvements are still coming.

Malaysia Airlines returns to the black after years of losses

PETALING JAYA: After years of reporting losses, the new-look Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS) has posted its first quarterly profit – a modest RM14mil – for the period between January to end-March this year.
Group-wide, the profit was RM51mil before exceptional cost.
This information on profit was spelt out by MAS’ outgoing chief executive officer Christoph Mueller in an e-mail he had sent out to the employees yesterday.
He wrote that “I am delighted to share that we have stopped the bleeding”.
A year ago, in the same quarter, the airline had reported an RM450mil loss.

At this rate, it will take 428 quarters (=1,284 months, =107 years) for Khazanah to recoup the 6B it has pledged :D

(I know, just being silly)

MAB may earn 5.98B in net profits in 2Q just to prove how silly you were!

(I know, cows will fly before we see that figure as a quarterly profit)

The worst is over, says Malaysia Airlines CEO

On the question of how MAS is very competitive compared with AirAsia, despite MAS’ rates being pricier than low-cost carriers yet not “big enough” to be a premium airline, Mueller said it was not a level playing field to begin with.

“I accept that AirAsia is our main competitor, however, we offer better deals and better service. If we compare cost, we have to argue from a level playing field.

“We do not have a level playing field because our main competitor AirAsia does not pay airport charges. They owe the Malaysian airport authority a huge amount of money. So, until they pass this on to passengers, then I would simply say it is not a level playing field, this is not fair competition,” he said.

He then urged the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) to “take a closer look at this”.

not forgetting the previous bail-outs...ooops "restructurings" and the rm12 billion losses that have incurred. But in any case MAS would have made some profits principally because of the almost 50% drop in oil prices - as can be seen from the result of Cathay and SIA - all attributable to falling oil process rather than on passengers revenue as in fact SIA load actually have even come down.

The turnaround rate is amazing! Mueller is truly a turnaround specialist, you can't deny it.

But I think his response to the Q&A about AK is rather un pro. Does AK still owe MAHB airport charges? Thought this has been settled ages ago.

Completely agree.. wouldn't give CM that much credit. And let's not forget the RM6b that have been poured into this entity.. not many CEOs have RM6b at their disposal to turn around a company.. yet he has the cheek to complain about not having a level playing field!!

Also, take note that SQ and CX have recorded amazing profits despite having to bear fuel hedging costs.. which MAB being a new entity wouldn't have to carry.

Still better than previous leaders who were poured with huge amount of money and yet not able to turnaround the business right? He has had good portfolio and milestone making Aeir Lingus and Lufthansa profitable and his success making MH a profitable airline within a short time period was almost an impossible job too and a plus plus to his CV.

But again many GLCs are bound by political move. E.g.

BSN has the duty to open its banks every corner of the nation to serve the people regardless of profitability.

TM has the duty to bring fiber and infra to every corner of the nation to serve the people regardless of profitability.

MH has the duty to serve the diplomatic routes regardless of profitability, which is no longer applied in order to sustain the national carrier's business.

Off-topic a bit. But TM broadband and fibre are so expensive. And it is a monopoly market. Maxis too offers home fibre but Maxis has to depend on TM Unifi.

I just hope that MAB this time will really turn around and not return back to its old ways. As a Malaysian, there's still some pride in me for a national airline and with the appointment of CM, it felt good for a moment. If it's Peter who takes over, the confidence will still be there, but sadly, not so if its someone else. Of course, I would love to be proven wrong and that this someone else will be able to perform, but historical data unfortunately does not paint a very bright picture...

Which is why I'm happy to be staying in a condo with TIME Fibre, kudos to them for bringing fast speed at really low prices. Need more competition, like what's happening in the mobile phone carrier scene lately.

TM's Unifi fibre network, like most GLC projects, received billions of RM in grants from the Federal Government.

Even the introduction of Streamyx was subsidised. Yet TM's charges to its customers does not reflect the substatially lower set up costs of these networks.

The project required 11.3 bil and only 2.4 bil was funded by govt, need to know this fact, too. And this amount of money was for HSBB start up, not to cover nationwide yet.

You will be surprised to find how much is actually paid to vendors that delivered practical works in glc and gomen projects. Edited by KK Lee

If government direct to vendors, that I don't dare to say. But for TM HSBB vendors that I know of are Huawei, ZTE, Alcatel and for fiber is as per standard of the existing contractors. Some of the fiber provider like Fiberail and Fibercomm are TM's subsidiary, too.

Anyway, we are way off topic in this thread! Haha!
