Putrajaya has finally unveiled specific measures to cut spending in the government through a circular released by the treasury amid shrinking revenue due to a collapse in oil prices.

- Flights under five hours must be economy class and business class for above five hours.

Is this an example of the work of MAB's new ad agency? Is this going to be MAB's future corporate identity - dark blue (similar to the MH logo on the A380) is the predominant colour and a plain white "Malaysia Airlines/Wau" logo. The colours of the Malaysian flag are still visible on the ad, though.

If this is anything to go by, MABs existing aircraft might all be adopting the A380 livery - and as the A380 will be phased out, this is one way to keep using the design and save some money redesigning a new livery.

I notice during peak hours, especially on PEN-KUL most of the business class passengers are businessmen and not your generic-looking gomen officials.

Honestly, A380 livery is a bit bland. I hope they'll tweak it a little bit.

Don't agree with this analyst at all.

MAS was bleeding to death already - if nothing was done, it would be unsustainable and would be forced to close down. MAS has many fundamental problems that needed to be addressed. Mueller is the right person to be the hatchet man as, in Malaysia, many will question decisions if the CEO is Malaysian.

Yes, current measures are necessarily short term to stop the bleeding. Where I feel disappointed is that these measures are taking their own sweet time to be implemented. Airlines like JAL and Qantas turned around far quicker - perhaps they don't have such deep rooted problems as MAS.

Finally, Khazanah may unleash its considerable resources at a later date - once MAB has proven that more money put in will not go down the drain. MAB is not a conventional business. It is a sovereign fund backed government enterprise! However, if Khazanah was to be convinced, the management of MAB must prove that resources will not be squandered like they were in the past.

Malaysia Airlines outlines progress in Dec-2015 to Feb-2016 quarter

Malaysia Airlines released (04-Mar-2016) a quarterly progress update for the period 01-Dec-2015 to 29-Feb-2016. The airline reported, "sustained progress amidst a backdrop of external macro-economic fluctuations." The carrier reported progress in all key areas, including on time performance and costs. RASK increased 10% year-on-year, supported by the airline's route optimisation programme. Load factor also improved and the airline handled 350,000 passengers over the Chinese New Year holiday. The carrier outlined the following achievements during the period:
  • Commenced codeshare partnership with Emirates. The agreement forms "an integral part" of Malaysia Airlines' future network plan;
  • Introduced new inflight menus and meal services, including 'dine on demand' in first class and hot meals for short-haul economy class;
  • Renegotiated contracts with a majority of operating lessors. Revised lease rates are significantly lower and on economically feasible terms;
  • Launched a new software upgrade programme, which includes collaborative platforms to enable staff to work in a more connected manner. Progress was also made transitioning to a cloud environment and IT security capabilities were tightened. The upgrade forms part of a planned technology framework overhaul, including transferring to a pay per-use, secure and agile cloud data centre;
  • The Works Council, which promotes dialogue between employees and management, moved to its next phase with active participation from staff, who nominated council representatives across all divisions;
  • Introduced a revamped performance management system to encourage productivity by providing clear targets and a clearer path for career progression. The system will enable the company to identify skills gaps and escalate retraining programmes;
  • Strengthened leadership team with the announcement of a new head of revenue management and head of engineering.
CEO Christoph Mueller said: "We are focused on building momentum with our restructuring in 2016. Diligent execution on efficiency and tighter cost controls has already produced results which have seen us emerging leaner and more focused."

Malaysia Airlines Revamping Meals To Improve Customer Service

KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines Bhd is revamping its economy class meals on short and long-haul flights in efforts to improve customer service as part of its overall transformation process.

Chief Commercial Officer Paul Simmons said the new menu, which would see an overall improvement in ingredients used, would also see the protein size doubled and bigger portions plus better overall presentation of the meals.

He said the new menu, scheduled to be served this month on all outbound flights from Kuala Lumpur, are the result of an extensive meal development process based on feedback from customers.

"We have invested an additional 20 per cent into the cost of creating the perfect menu to suit the variety of guests on Malaysia Airlines," he said in a statement today.

Simmons said the new investment in meals would also see the introduction of hot meals on short-haul flights and options tailored to specific routes.

He said more Malaysian dishes would also be served on flights between Kuala Lumpur to Australia including curry and rendang as part of the airline's move to provide a truly Malaysian experience.

"Malaysia Airlines is going through a period of rapid transformation as we are rebuilding to become one of the very best airlines in the world, focused on providing the best customer experience," he said.

Certainly not during IJ's time. The hardware that u see there was first used on during the time the A380s entered service.

Looks like a variant of the upgraded Y meal with the Japanese theme that one could purchase prior to the flight.

To me to run an airline business the CEO should emphasis what the industry wants not what Khazanah wants. Political involvement is one issue but MAB just does not have funds to do much. Bear in mind MAB has to pay back the RM6 billion spent of restructuring or dismantling of MAS.

I am not sure how the RM6b given to MAB is made up of. Is it in shares, bonds, loans, guarantees, etc. So whether Khazanah gets it back may not be as important as MAB starts to sustain itself without more funds from them. Bottom line is MAB desperately needs to make profits and have a positive cash flow to sustain itself.

The new CEO should know that if MAB's top agenda is to make profits. Without profits, they can kiss goodbye to all other agenda as Khazanah has stated that the release of the RM 6bn is conditional upon MAB achieving its targets and milestones over the next few years.

I'm not sure if you guys know how Khazanah works? They are the strategic investment arm of the country. They INVEST money and of course from this expect to gain returns.

It is therefore in their best interests that their investee company performs well so that they get a return on their investment.

It is not simply a case of putting in RM6 billion and then firing the Mat Saleh just because a few people are disgruntled. Please lah...

When "national interest" is in play, profit and dividend would take a back seat.

whats the point of having soba and spaghetti in one tray?that's carb overload

Cheaper to fill the dishes with carb than protein or vegetables.

Why is it after Muller's resignation announcement, news starts pouring about changes to Meals, uniform

Maybe Muller was blocking all of this?

Or maybe all this was already lined-up, to be announced progressively but with Mueller's sudden resignation, they had to speed up the implementation to compensate.

Mueller has been talking about a rebranding for a long time.
