Commencing 01/SEPT/2015, A330 will ply Auckland route daily.

A330 to AKL, wow! Quite a stretch for A330. Will MH operate with restricted payload?

Could it be that present MH load factors are below any restricted payload limits of the A333? Remember D7 used to operate to CHC with its A333s.

I was at KLIA on Thursday morning and it never seems to amaze me the amount of aircraft MH has parked off at stand-off bays.

* 2 x A380's parked just behind C14, another had just arrived

* Numerous B772's parked around the place

* 2 A333's parked (1 alongside the A380's and -MTG was parked near the B gates

* Countless B738's parked adjacent to the A and B gates, every bay was occupied with aircraft seemingly parked up for day all closed up.

Surely MH should be firstly looking at off-loading some B737's which are surplus to requirements, commencing with the old colour scheme and non PTV ones first.

The current A333 MH has can do it, but barely. Note that when MH placed the A333 order, John Leahy mentioned the "new" A333s can do KUL-CDG, not sure of any payload restriction though. (https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/aerospace/2012-07-09/airbus-increases-a330-payload-and-range)

For NZ, MH may need to forgo cargo or block off some seats.

Story will be different is they swap some 235tons with 242tons version.

242 tonne version will do KUL-AKL comfortably but, so far, only DL has that.

CM should have John Leahy's number on speed dial.

Airbus would be happy to sell MH some more A333HGWs, or swap some.

I gather MH Ops dept is doing fine-tuning of their new schedule under MAB, thus we are seeing a lot of parked aircraft now. Once the newCo is up and running, idled planes maybe less.

They are getting rid of leased, non-standard B738, but not fast enough. Some are really falling apart, others ain't that great too. Hopefully they can retire them soon.

Older B738s have the 16J 150Y seats. Among those which are still in operation:

  • 9M-FFD B737-85F 14.6 years old
  • 9M-FFE B737-85F 14.6 years old
  • 9M-FFF B737-8FZ 4.1 years old
  • 9M-MLD B737-8GQ 7.8 years old
  • 9M-MLE B737-8FH 7.6 years old
  • 9M-MLF till 9M-MLK B737-8FZ between 4 to 5 years old
FFD and FFE maybe on their way out, not sure about -FFF and MLD-MLK as it is still relatively 'young'.

He sounds stupid. Really. Go read the article.

Prior to MH370, globally Malaysia Airlines brand awareness was in the low single digits. But after MH370 and MH17 it is 86 per cent worldwide. The name is now in the range of Coke and Pepsi. That kind of awareness takes decades and billions of dollars in investment to build. To abandon that, from a commercial marketing perspective, would be a tragically bad mistake to make, he said.

With people like him at the top management, no wonder mas was bleeding profoundly.

Sounds like a moron. That kind of brand awareness is something that will put MORE people off flying with MH. This guy should be in our Cabinet with the crap he came out with!!

If he is a Malaysian, probably he would be appointed senator and cabinet minister.

maybe hes thinking MH's legacy and previous track record as world class airline should not be relinquished and be simply wiped out merely by having a new company while other national carriers such as Garuda, Korean Air, PR, TG even SQ had experienced mishaps previously and they managed to rebuild their reputation...MH's corporate restructuring is in pure sense a straight forward debt restructuring without regard to the fact that the corporate entity which was established more than 40 years ago will cease to exist..for layman they will see no difference as most of the staffs will be transferred to the new co

There is a difference between being famous and infamous... being well known and well-known for the wrong reasons! The sudden surge of the MH brand arose from the MH370 and MH17 disasters were is a good example of being well know for the wrong reasons.

Sadly he failed figure out this!

Big difference is that MH disasters are still an open book. Can't close the case yet. So right now, any publicity will usually be negative.

It is also hoped that the newco will shed its image of being a less than professionally run company...

Good God he is leaving!!!

By the way, Malaysia Airlines has rumoured approached Taiwan local authorities to apply for name change: something alike "Malaysia International Airlines".

Sounds good in Mandarin "马来西亚国际航空公司"....Not too good in English though......

If Malaysia Airlines is going to pull this off, they may become like what Air China is 中国国际航空公司 (zhong guo guo ji hang kong gong xi).

Air Malaysia, Malaysia International Air Lines aren't far off too. Think of Swiss International Air Lines after Swissair went belly up. A few years after, Swiss International Air Lines rebranded as simply 'Swiss'.

Exciting time ahead for our national carrier.....
