A huge congratulation to Malaysia Airlines on the three awards. Despite all the uphill tasks it is facing, the cabin crew and employees have shown exemplary service to the world. Best signature dish:satay! No one can beat Malaysia Airlines on this. (note: Am not sure how truthful skytrax is,but hey. Lets celebrate for now.) On a side note, Malaysia Airlines didn't lost its five stars status ever, merely pending status for one year plus. Our neighbour airlines is losing its lustre.

QF & NZ out of top 10...

With all the negative publicity surrounding QF and abrupt grounding of whole fleet just because the CEO threw a tantrum certainly damaged QF's reputation, we are not surprised to see it out of the league. NZ's 10 abreast B777 came to mind......However, MH needs to step up to the game as it is teetering at the edge......but still quite an achievement consdering the strong competition from ME-based airlines. All three biggies: QR, EK, EY are up there.......GA and GF soon will be as well.

Well done MAS! Great job. Now they have to build up on their shattered reputation and slowly climb their way up to the top. No matter what anyone says about how subjective SkyTrax awards are, I think it is still important to have your name in one of its lists. Better publicity really.

 

And anyone notice how all the airlines on the list are from Asia?

Turkey is only partly in Europe

 

Speaking of Turkish Airlines, it goes to show how an airline which was in government hands blossomed into an aviation giant when it went public. In the 80s and 90s, no one really thought much of it. Now it flies to 200 destinations around the world and made IST a hub to rival Dubai.

 

The strange thing is that many of its routes in Europe, Central asia and Africa are flown using 737NGs ... they are short to medium haul routes. I think MAS is trying to emulate this partly with its 737NG services to the Far East and the subcontinent.

I think it can work - with multiple daily flights which will feed into KUL (soon to be a OW hub).

 

TK is also helped by IST's extremely strategic location straddling Asia and Europe - great access to Russia/Central asia, the middle east and Africa.

 

I think MAS should not just concentrate on India and China but also Russia and Brazil. EZE was not the best choice of destination in South America. MAS is a bit late now to hop on to the GRU bandwagon --> SQ, EY, EK, QR all have their hands in the pie.

But I think they should not ignore the emerging giant that is Brazil.

 

They ignored Indonesia many years ago to SQ's delight and profit.

Congrats to MAS! They are truly deserving of the best cabin staff award. I think they are the airline that has won this award the most times ever! Also very glad to see it back in the top 10 airlines list. I hope that we'll see their first class start making it on the list next year now that the A380s have started to fly. I'm also hoping that their economy section also gets onto the lists with more and more people sampling the new product on the new A33Es and A380s.
