Technical glitch forces MAS flight back to Bangalore

Recommended Posts

Quoted from THE STAR

NEW DELHI: A technical glitch forced a Malaysia Airlines aircraft bound for the Kuala Lumpur International Airport to turn back to the Bengaluru International Airport.

MAS area manager (Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh) Hamzah Ayob said that MH193 took off at 12.25pm Sunday and after about one and half hours in the air, an error in the weather radar system was noted.

The Boeing 737-800 had to turn back to Bengaluru and landed safely, he told Bernama here.

Hamzah said all 140 passengers were safe and given accommodation at a hotel, adding that they would board another flight to Malaysia at 7pm Sunday. BERNAMA

weather radar? I don't remember the requirements in the Minimum Equipment List, but didn't realise it is a no go item

It happened inflight so the MEL doesn't apply anymore. The crew probably decided it is unwise to continue flying across the Indian ocean in the middle of the night without a servicable weather radar.
