It's such a pity BA are not prioritising KUL over other destinations. When the new slots were opened up in LHR, they quickly mounted flights to ICN and CMB. Now, CGK will be coming back online by the end of the year. Well, MH will continue to monopolise the route which I suppose is good for them...

The market is just not big enough for BA to go to KUL. Plus it'll have to put up with competition from the middle eastern carriers.

British Airways will start operating its Airbus A380 on the London to Singapore route from October, the airline has confirmed.

The A380 will replace the Boeing 747-400 that is currently uses, allowing an estimated 4,000 passengers to fly to Singapore each month.

Starting on October 28 the carrier will deploy the double-decker aircraft initially three weekly and increase to daily by February 2015.

The service will depart London Heathrow every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and the return flight will leave Singapore’s Changi Airport every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

BA’s regional general manager, Robert Williams, said: “We have a long history of serving Singapore and over the past 80 years we have established strong ties with the country.

“The London to Singapore service is also integral to British Airways’ ‘Kangaroo Route’, which was one of the airline’s most popular long-haul routes last year.

“Introducing our latest aircraft to the route further reinstates the commitment that we have to serving Singapore which is extremely important to our network.”

BA announced last year it ordered 12 Airbus A380 aircraft which are expected to all arrive by 2016.

The airline currently operates its A380s to Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Johannesburg, and will deploy the aircraft on its London-Washington DC route from September 2014.

I think the A380 move effectively kills it. The ground time in singapore did indicate they might have considered it at some stage but that's a goner now.

 

And it pisses me off I don't care what metal they fly. Just do a 5th freedom flight from somewhere near here (CMB-MLE is not near enough)

BA benefiting from A380 and 787 economics: Walsh

 

British Airways’ Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 fleets are performing ahead of expectations, the airline’s parent group has disclosed.

The carrier operates four A380s, with another eight on order, and has taken four 787s from a total commitment to 42.

Parent company IAG’s chief executive, Willie Walsh, speaking during a full-year results presentation, said the aircraft were performing “in line, if not slightly better, than we would have expected”.

Walsh says technical reliability is ahead of expectations and the company has experienced a “significant reduction of seat costs” with the A380 compared with its Boeing 747-400s.

The carrier has been able to secure additional slot flexibility by introducing the A380 onto the Los Angeles route, where it had previously operated three 747s, and has benefited from a slight increase in premium capacity.

Walsh says the airline is seeing a similar effect on the Hong Kong route where it is substituting an A380 and Boeing 777 for two 747s.
