Singapore Airshow 2012

Recommended Posts

Although the Singapore Airshow 2012 is still three days away, the action has already begun at the site. Among the arrivals are the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 respledent in the colours of SpiceJet.

Also on the ramp is the Sikorsky S-92 helicopter wearing an interesting livery and still showing all the signatures that it acquired on a previous visit to LIMA 2011.

The C-130J of the Royal Australian Air Force that accompanied the Roulettes aerobatic team was also on site and looked beautiful in the morning light.

Regrettably, the hardwares from the Republic of Singapore Air Force were already hidden behind barricades ... but the S-70 of the Republic of Singapore Navy was parked in a location that could still offer a decent picture.

Seen here being towed in is the Special Missions Beechcraft King Air 350ER.

Somewhat of a letdown are the performances by high-performance fighters from the Republic of Singapore Air Force and the Royal Malaysian Air Force. While the RMAF MIG-29N pilots might still be trying to get accustomed to the airshow's site, the same cannot be said of the RSAF F-16 and F-15SG pilots. Here are just two of the (yawn) inspiring manoeuvres.

On the contrary, it is the slow-speed Roulettes from the Royal Australian Air Force that produced a more inspired performance closer to shore. One plane that I have enjoyed seeing is the Dornier DO228 and one of the updated version - a DO228NG has arrived at the show.

Without fail, this day and probably the show belongs to the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (ZA003 / N787BX) which arrived from Bangkok at slightly past 2.00pm. As it was heading directly to the Changi Exhibition Centre, it landed on runway 02R. Below are a series of shots of it landing and rolling out ... being towed to the exhibition centre and finally reaching its designated spot on the static display ramp.

And when it finally eased into position, the RAAF's Roulettes were there to bid it a warm welcome.

Lots more images will be added in the coming week ... and for sure, others will add their own pictorial account of the airshow.

KC, the seahawk is an RSAF platform operated by an RSAF squadron. The only crew provided by the RSN are the TACCO and SENSO.

Now that the Airbus A330MRTT is confirmed ... and the Beriev BE200 has arrived ... and Jacky Chan's Legacy 650 is arriving tomorrow ... and the C17 is flying ... there seems a lot more to look forward to in the coming week.

Many of us have been burnt to a crisp today ... the blazing sun was absolutely great. The wing of the B787 in the 5th photo reminds me of the sickle we used to cut grass in the 1960s ...perhaps that is why the grass in the 4th photo look like they have been freshly cut!

And fellow Mwingers who have not decided can still make a dash down south ... there is still time.

Thanks for sharing KayCee !!!

The 787 crossing the canal could have been taken at AMS (taxying to 36L)... :pardon:

Missed the Air Baltic Q400 two years ago...this one is definitely better...

The Boeing 787 is parked where the A380 did in 2008 and where the A330F did in 2010. The A330MRTT has arrived this morning and although I have not seen it, I understand it is a Royal Air Force machine.

Perhaps the same machine on display during LIMA?

The A330MRTT at the show is factory-fresh from Spain and wears the unconventional "registration" - MRTT016.

The E-3B Sentry arrived on Sunday afternoon ... and watch this space for pictures of it. The sun was absolutely gorgeous when we were photographing her.

The Airbus A330MRTT is indeed a UK airframe.......... MRTT016 is construction number 1033 and should have the RAF serial ZZ331.
