Malaysian Airlines flight officer arrested with drugs

Recommended Posts

Life imprisonment, if you were found innocent/being forced to do it later, something can be done.

Death penalty, that's it. If you were found as innocent as a baby later on, nothing can done.

In other countries, it really depends on your previous criminal records as well. You might be released earlier on good behaviour bond. If you were hanged, nothing can be reversed.

how do MASkargo pilots get to their freighter??

through ACC(park their car at MASkargo parking) or MTB(get bussed from the flight ops building) in KUL??

Similar to other flights but after the security check point at MTB they will go down to the ground floor and take a van to the cargo apron.

There are no dedicated pilots for Maskargo, they will operate normal pax or freighter flight depending on their monthly roster.

Australian prison sentence isn't as harsh as those in Asia. Life imprisonment can be 7-10 years, depending on situation. The society cannot afford to keep him 20 years anyway, it is too costly.

Guess he will have to get used to picking soaps from the floor while in prison... :)

Normally cargo pilot will carry their own check in baggage in to the cabin, if I am not wrong!

Not really, a ground staff will be waiting at the steps to help load the check in bags into the cargo hold. However the option to carry your own bag into the cabin is still available.

Why do the press like to translate FO as Flight Officer? There is no such thing! We all know it should be First Officer.

Typical reporter mistake when it comes to aviation. Even A320 can be confuse as B737.

I can only imagine that in a freighter, it's like any which corner you can fit your stuff into ! :p

Incidentally, are pilots and cabin crew subjected to baggage weight restrictions too ? If so, can they 'pool' their allowances as is common amongst pax ? :)

Malaysian pilot in Australia gets six years’ jail for smuggling drugs

MELBOURNE: A Malaysian who tried to smuggle more than A$1mil worth of methamphetamine through the Sydney Airport has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Thiagu Supramaniam, 32, who was about to be promoted to a Boeing 747 captain, was caught with 4.49kg of methamphetamine meant to be dropped off with another drug courier at the Stamford Hotel in Sydney, the Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday.

Supramaniam was caught when Customs officers conducted a random inspection of his aircraft after it arrived from Kuala Lumpur on January 10 last year and found six packages of the drugs concealed in his luggage.

Supramaniam pleaded guilty to smuggling in the drugs, which had an 80 percent purity level.

From the RHS of the 747 to the LHS? :nea:

Change the number from 4 to 3, and it will make sense.

AUD $15k loan with loan sharks was the reason that he was forced to courier drugs? Hmm AUD $15k is not that much. Surely he would earn in back soon and that he could have paid them through personal loan with the bank.

I personally think this is an excuse trying to win sympathy from the judge, in exchange for lighter jail terms.

He had a bright future but he made rhe wrong choice to destroy his own life. Bad call really.

Am not trying to make an excuse for him but may be he couldn't even get a personal loan from the bank. When people really need money, they usually will try to take out a loan from bank first. But when they couldn't get their bank loan approved, they often resort to loan shark.

Typical press reporter typo sir. :) Forgive them.

What this pilot do is a disgrace to the profession and Malaysian pilots. The Australian authority might think all pilots from Malaysia are the same. According to newspaper report, he resorted to trafficking drugs to help pay his debts. Salary of B747 FO not enough?
