AirAsia X-ing services to 5 cities

Thanks for sharing, jani. :)

Good, well researched interview by BFM. :good:

They managed to get the information presented that the Malaysian mainstream media failed to do, e.g. the route approvals difficulties that D7 experienced.

The info is nothing new for us who watch and read international media, but it definitely is new for the Malaysian media.

The early part of the interview suggests that D7 gets planes first, then thinks where to use them. Weird logic.

Later, he keeps saying that D7 shows long haul low cost works. I think he needs to define what long haul means, as D7 is now largely medium haul.

Not sure if it is - I have seen D7's CEO's Tweets about things needing MAS BoD approval last month. So maybe this agreement had to be approved by the board before signing.

Indian flights already terminated in January, no ?

So this agreement will necessarily be retrospective

But why the need for an agreement now, considering it is "normal industry practice" as per clause 4 of Bursa disclosure statement ?

:)

Let see how that turns out this time around. So far no LCC can make international LCC service to BKK, KUL and SIN from DEL and BOM work. Well, may be it'll help after Air Asia India takes off.

Not sure how Airasia X resuming flights will help Airasia India (and vice versa) unless it changes its mind about operating in Tier II and III Indian airports.

NEW DELHI, April 10 (Bernama) -- AirAsia X will restart New Delhi and Mumbai routes soon, Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said, Wednesday.

"AirAsia X will be restarting routes to India very soon. Bombay and New Dehli are around the corner," he wrote on social media site, Facebook.

The long-haul budget airline axed flights to Mumbai and New Delhi on Jan 31 last year, citing high operating costs. Both routes were started in 2010.

The routes could serve as a feeder for its latest venture in India, given that domestic aviation rules did not permit new airlines to operate international routes for the first five years of operations.

The budget carrier has established AirAsia India, a 49:30:21 joint venture between AirAsia,Tata Sons and Telstra Tradeplace of Indian investor, Arun Bhatia.

The airline, to be based in Chennai, will cater primarily to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Operations are expected to begin by year-end.

Funny how the author managed to conclude the D7 flights to New Delhi and Mumbai which "could serve as a feeder for its latest venture in India" (Air Asia India) which is "to be based in Chennai"
