Is 74E a Combi? Didn't know MH ever operated a Combi before.

Some routes also received more frequency now than back then.

Yes, they did. MH first two B744 (9M-MHL and 9M-MHM) was powered by GE as opposed to current PWs. Both are delievered in 1989, making MH one of the pioneer B744 operators at that time.

 

Both are retired quickly after 2001 restructuring exercise. Now hauling cargo around the world with Kalitta Air. MHL became N741CK and MHM became N740CK.

MH's sole 747-3H6 was a combi, as were the first two 747-4H6 as noted by Julius

Wonder why manufacturers don't offer -combi variants nowadays anymore ?

If I am not mistaken after the South African Airways Flight 295 (The Helderberg) in 1987, FAA of US imposed new ruling on how Combi should be used by airlines and how to combat fire should there be one.

 

They even set new rules for aircraft manufactuers to adhere to new manufacturing standard thus driving up the cost of operating such Combi. B747 was the lsat aircraft to be designed with Combi configuration as far as I know, Boeing offered the configuration up till 2002.

 

There aren't many Combi operator left KLM, KE, and Eva come to mind. These three are cargo heavyweight airlines, therefore can afford.

 

Wa lao wea....did MH closed down BKI during the WAU exercise...O.O. (sorry, was sitting for exam when it happened, not sure of details)

Under Dr M, he wanted to boost tourism in LGK by routing MH flights through this island. Unfortunately for MH, this never worked as evident by all LGK tag on are now gone.

Too bad Langkawi tourism just couldn't do as good as Phuket and Bali. Though liquor is basically cheap in Langkawi and yet no bars are available there which obviously many foreigners like to hang out in bar at night. This also has made the island a dead island at night because the activities at night is very scarce.

Yes. And there were usually like one or two people who actually stopped at LGK when they transit there.. The route really didn't have much potential..

and i still remember it still got PEN-LHR..

some of the people said, after build the KLIA,

MAS was ordered by the government all the flight should take off from KLIA to boost the traffic in there, if not KLIA will become a big white elephant.

Sorry for being pedantic, but never was any PEN-LHR nor LGK-LHR (non stop)

I believe the services were of the KUL-LHR-PEN-KUL and KUL-LHR-LGK-KUL loops

It could be KUL - PEN - LHR - PEN - KUL, but MH has been cutting back the stopover point from KUL due to poor load factor. This used to affect KUL - KCH - SYD - KCH - KUL and KUL - BKI - KIX - BKI - KUL, which later MH cut the departure and make it arrival on KCH from SYD and BKI from KIX.

The flights linking LHR with PEN or LGK were only in one direction - only in the Inbound.

 

This was during the time when MH was doing up to 3x a day to LHR.

 

MH 2625 BKI-LBU-MYY-KCH-KUL Remember this flight?always wanted to take this flight but never materialised.

 

The "outbound" MH2610 was longer. Started at PEN. Routing was PEN-KUL-KCH-MYY-LBU-BKI - same aircraft all the way.

 

However, I dont believe that aircraft did a turnaround at BKI to do MH2625 - it was operated by another aircraft. Also, I'm not sure if that flight continued on to PEN after KUL.

Not all DXB flights are direct. I believe the flights via KHI are still there till today. MH160-161 I think.

The runway is almost 4000m so its far from short

 

LGK-HKT was a short trip, wonder what the flying time was

One interesting question to ask, what happened to the capacities after all those routing being chopped off?? Never know that MH did have a such long arrangement for domestic operation for MH 2610 and MH 2625...
