Langkawi LIMA 2011

Recommended Posts

Here's my LIMA '11 log but it's not the complete list. I didn't cover the maritime heli shows at Porto Malai and helis parked at the nearby Pusat Latihan Polis, there are around 5-6 helis parked over there..probably on standby for SAR.

You were there on Saturday morning Victor?....

sorry didn't see you. Friday morning I shot from near the lake directly opposite Mahsuri Hall

and Saturday, on the hill near the DCA quarters, next to LANGKAWI sign opposite the terminal.

Yup, I was there too on Saturday morning. Sorry I didn't see you too. I went to MIEC on Friday afternoon but skip the Saturday morning/afternoon only to regret it after seeing from afar on board the deck of KD Kelantan that C-17, F-5E etc was flying... :vava: :aggressive:

Just to share some photos of the US Navy P-3C Orion and the RAAF A330 tanker.

I only know CDR should be Commander, but what about CMDCM. They also have names on the nose gear cover.

Do come down to the Singapore Aishow 2012 in February, there will be the RSAF F16D, Apache and F15SG.

I'm not too sure about the USAF F22 Raptor.

Anyway l'm hoping that RMAF will send in the SU30MKM for the Singapore Airshow.

Cheers.

Agreed, BTW the RSAF F16D (and also Apache, F15SG) was present in SIN Airshow 2008 & 2010.

From its website re. RSAF static displays, I don't see anything newer <_<

Anyway I'll be at this airshow for the JSF35 and B787. Hope to see some of you there :drinks:

yupppp.had a chat with the technician i guess?seriously didnt expect to see the plane here. always commented on how they made the F-16 a bit too muscular compared to the original elegant one, but seeing it up close like that, it wasnt that bad at all.. :)

anyway here are some pics from the maritime show. was there awhile only after the first day morning airshow session. missed a big part of the maritime demonstration though. but somehow it didnt really matter since i just couldnt give attention to boats the way i did for the planes.. :p

this guys were posing for a majalah 3 kind of show i think. looked quite funny

Just reach hotel tired but very happy. Nice to spot with Uncle Norman, Iwan and Kip Dawson. Now I'm off to bed and hopefully get on with photo editing on Monday. :p

Anyway, today morning's flying exhibition was marred by the "no show" for the Gripen and Rafale. However the Rafale did fly in the afternoon, and the C-17 also took to the sky and did the infamous "reverse" thingy. The ending saw 3 TUDM F-5E, 3 Hawks and 3 Hornets low flypass.

A bit late, as I forgot to take my camera cable, so unable to download photos until I got back to the UK on 30th Dec........... really nice to meet up with Waiping, unfortunately due to my delayed flight and Uncle Norman's early departure, we missed each other.

Anyway here is a few of my photos, starting with some of the static...........

Starting with some of the Singapore contingent

263S-70BRSiAF.jpg

Really do like these Block 52 F-16D's

670F-16DRSiAF.jpg

Followed by the locals

the elderly 'Nuri'. Has a replacement been ordered yet?

M23-04S-61ARMAF.jpg

the smart little Aermacchi

M34-18MB-339CDRMAF.jpg

the brutal Flanker

M52-12Su-30MKMRMAF.jpg

and the soon to be replaced Fulcrum

M43-03MiG-29NRMAF.jpg

then some from the final display........ in no particular order

Take off's

first sight for me of a 'twin stick' TUDM Fulcrum

M43-01MiG-29UBRMAF.jpg

the impressive if rather ugly Rafale

314104-HPRafaleBAdlA.jpg

why did they send the same two as 2009 !!!

645F-16CRSiAF.jpg

this was also here in 2009

M52-11Su-30MKMRMAF.jpg

not really a 'take off' as it flew in from Butterworth

ZK304EBTyphoonFGR4RAF-1.jpg

and of course the obligatory 'Rhino'

166659AD232FA-18FUSN.jpg

nice paint job

M43-0304MiG-29NRMAF.jpg

Landing and taxiing......

for us in the West a rare sight of a Hawaii based Globemaster

05-5152HHC-17AUSAF-1.jpg

with 'air brake' deployed

M52-11Su-30MKMRMAFa.jpg

with last century 'air brake' deployed !!

M43-01MiG-29UBRMAFa.jpg

stop !! cameraman on taxiway

M43-18MiG-29NRMAFa.jpg

what's going to replace these at the next show?

M43-03MiG-29NRMAFa.jpg

Finally........

Laurie B has already posted a photo of the 3 Hornets in the late afternoon flypast, so here's the 3 single seat Hawks

M40-243334Hawk208RMAF.jpg

a couple for interesting support aircraft seen on the Mon and Tues following the show

a fifty year old Herc !! built in 1959 and still looking in great shape

720C-130BRSiAF.jpg

support for the Navy Super Hornets

N974VVKDC-10Omega.jpg

other interesting support seen which I didn't get pictures off, couldn't get out of the pool quick enough

Il-76TD......came to collect the 'Tigre'

C-160R Transall and C-135FR tanker for the Rafales

CH-47SD for the RSiAF F-16's

Best wishes for the new year to all MWingers.

Regards

Kip

Yes, more after I go through the ton of raw photos. Any tips on mass output? The manual process is taking too much time.

Awesome pics Kwek... :clapping:

I know there're more to come, right?

More of a high speed pass really, and they appeared unexpectedly, and caught most of us out. Consequently not enough time to lock on!! So apologies for the poor quality, but at least you can make out what they are.

Kwek: If you use Photoshop then I suggest to sort your photos of the same lighting into separate sub-folders. Then:

1/ take 1 photo in each sub-folder to process manually while recording the steps into 1 action.

2/ The action may include resize, watermark, save as a copy into a new destination folder then close the original file without saving.

3/ Take another photo in the same sub-folder and test with the above action without dialog boxes.

4/ If everything is Ok then use the Batch command in the File menu > Automate > Batch

5/ In the Batch dialog box, select the above action and the Source is folder

6/ Then choose the folder containing the photo you processed above as source folder

7/ Untick if necessary the box for Override Action "Save as"commands and finally click OK

If you complete the Batch dialog box correctly, PS will automatically process non-stop all the raw photos in this sub-folder to the same parameters as for the test photo.

Repeat the same steps for the other sub-folders, et voila` :yahoo:

Thanks! I use Canon's free DPP to convert RAW to JPG and use Photoshop elements to made the adjustments - mainly contrast and crop.

You can use Adobe Lightroom.... the latest will read latest camera raw (all brand)

Similar process to what Nguyen suggest in Photoshop.... but much more simpler

and the cataloging is superb.... Download the trial copy.... use it for 30days... & I think you'll purchase it at the end of the period

Thanks Norman, I used the earlier 1.1 version of Lightroom previously. Didn't quite like it then. Will give it another shot. The cataloging part is perhaps the best part of the program. Need to do something fast else most of my pictures will never see the light of the day....
