MAS and AirAsia Shares Swap

Recommended Posts

I wonder what the union actually expects from the airline if MH was going down the drain anyways ? With the law suit and more to come, how can MH sustain the workers or its union ? They must all be working very very hard to feel that they deserve better remunerations :drinks:

let us see how many workers are required to do the turnaround on MH planes......

and imagine, how much does MH spend on these people!

ramai.jpg

first, near the engine, 2 people are required to do the refuelling! and second, another operator is required to monitor the tanker. (3 workforces)

luggage handling (4.....with one sitting at faaaar right near the aerobridge! So, that's already 5

and a pilot (that's a must to fly a plane), plus one FO

catering.....2 at least!

cabin crew, 5 for meal sectors, and 4 for juice sectors....

gate operators, 2 or even 3

holding lounge, upon entering, I spotted 4, 1 was checking boarding passes, 1 was doing announcement, and 2 were doing nothing....

cleaners : I spotted 4 cleaners

so, at least 30 people are involved in a single turnaround process.....

And.....

what are they doing?

nganga.jpg

doing nothing....

the photo was taken during first hari raya where there were not so many movements @ KUL, but they are plenty of workers sitting here and there.

Now, I do understand why MH is always in RED. Overhead costs! Any opinions?

3 tanker guys = Shell not MH

2 guys (with dark blue shirts) near the luggage compartment = MAHB security staff not MH

Guys with red shirts = third party workers due to the different costumes / CMIIW

Half of the 20000 employees are phantom workers, lurking around in KLIA and various airports nationwide.

Hey we do have phantom voters, right! :nea:

MAS is way overstaffed, that's for sure and this is why overheads are so high. The deadwood needs to be trimmed but the excellent aircrew needs to be maintained. Most of the excess staff are ground crew anyway.

Unions do what unions do. Why is this news so surprising?

Managememt shouldn't have been surprised with this situation, because it's their own fault that led to this. They had been vague about the CCF ever since the start, and in the absence of facts, speculation becomes the facts and perceptions becomes the truth. If they had been more forthcoming, I doubt things would end up like this.

According to my friend at SZB, MAS workers and unions might be make a picket to stop MAS-AirAsia share swap.

MAS firm on share swap, disappointed with unions’ picket threat

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 — Loss-making Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has expressed determination to continue its collaboration and share swap deal with rival AirAsia despite three in-house unions threatening industrial action to prevent the deal and the setting up of a non-unionised carrier within the group.

The flag carrier said it was not in a “trade dispute” with the unions as the Comprehensive Collaboration Framework (CCF) between both airlines is more of “a management, board and shareholder matter which is done in the best interests of the Company”.

The three unions — Malaysia Airlines System Employees Union of Peninsular Malaysia (Maseu), Air Workers Union Sarawak (Awus) and Air Transport Workers Union Sabah (Atwus) representing about 15,000 employees — threatened picket action yesterday, saying they suspect the carrier’s new management team was planning the new brand within the airline as part of a union-busting move.

“Malaysia Airlines would like to state its disappointment on this development despite several engagements with the unions.

“Malaysia Airlines would like to clarify that it is not in a trade dispute in relation to the CCF and deems the CCF as a management, board and shareholder matter which is done in the best interests of the Company,” the airline said in a six-paragraph statement.

The flag carrier said employees’ interest was paramount and it would continue to engage the unions about their objections to the deal announced early last month.

“The management is working tirelessly towards firming up the details of the collaboration and will announce them officially, subject to regulatory approvals, at the appropriate time,” it added.

Yesterday, Maseu president Alias Aziz said they did not agree with the collaboration or the creation of new airline Sapphire under the deal.

In an attempt to bolster the fortunes of the flag carrier, state asset manager Khazanah Nasional Berhad swapped 20.5 per cent of MAS stock for a 10 per cent stake in AirAsia, Asia’s biggest budget carrier, on August 9.

The swap enabled AirAsia bosses Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and his partner Datuk Seri Kamaruddin Meranun to sit on the MAS board and will ostensibly help turn it around.

Khazanah has denied that AirAsia was bailing out MAS.

Shareholders of AirAsia will get one free MAS warrant for every 10 shares in the low-cost carrier while MAS shareholders will get one free AirAsia warrant for every 30 MAS shares.

MAS announced in August a net loss of RM527 million for the second quarter of 2011 due to higher fuel costs despite recording a better yield and a nine per cent growth in passenger revenue from the same period last year.

This brings total losses in the first half of the year to RM769 million even as the airline said that profit outlook for the second half of the year appears bleak.

Its main regional competitor Singapore Airlines, while also hit by higher fuel costs, fared better with a S$44.7 million (RM108 million) net profit for the same period.

The flag carrier said its group total revenue increased to RM3.485 billion for the second quarter of 2011, or eight per cent more than the RM3.213 billion for the same quarter last year, while passenger revenue was RM2.086 billion for the same period this year compared to RM1.912 billion for the corresponding period in 2010.

If MH choose to fire those attending the picket it would cut quite a lot of manpower. :p

Malaysia Airlines is so lucky that their worker unions are absolutely nothing like those of AF, BA, AA, UA etc. The AF pilots even purposely drove all the widebodied aircraft to the runways at CDG and forced the complete shut down of the airport last time :finger:

Thanks to the draconian 'ISA' which made everyone back in the line ...... :clapping:

Would you like to hold the Union President post, organise a coordinated strike and bring the airlines to its knee in exchange to a free 'degree' from Kamunting Detention Center? ......

:hi:

LOL. How uncivilised. Won't the pilot get charged and banned? It makes more sense for them to make the strike.

This kind of picket is fairly common in the west, especially in Europe. It wasn't just one or two AF pilots did that. They drove several widebodied aircraft to the runways at CDG and make a line just like how it was in the States back in 911. Every single flight attendants called in sick and AF had to cancel all flights that day.

Anyway, were they really uncivilized ? Can't really comment on that as i do not know the whole story :D

1. Picketing and strike are two completely different things.

2. Pilots are not members of MASEU; neither does engineers. There are many associations within MAS, MASEU is just one of them.

3. It will be interesting to find out about the leaders of MASEU and what else they do.

It is just like CUEPACS and Public Servants. The Admin and Professional Group are not CUEPACS members.

MAS: We are not in dispute with unions

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has expressed disappointment over news reports on the threatened industrial action from three workers union in MAS.

The national carrier said in a statement that the MAS Graded Tripartite, comprising Malaysia Airlines System Employees Union of Peninsular Malaysia (Maseu), Air Workers Union Sarawak (Awus) and Air Transport Workers Union Sabah (Atwus), has been engaged several times over the Comprehensive Collaboration Framework (CCF) and other issues.

“MAS would like to clarify that it was not in a trade dispute in relation to the CCF and deemed the CCF as a management, board and shareholder matter which was done in the best interest of the company,” MAS said.

According to the statement, the management was working tirelessly towards firming up the details of the collaboration and would announce them officially, subject to regulatory approvals.

It was reported that the three workers’ unions claimed that over 80% of MAS staff would join the new airline Sapphire that is to be set up under the new MAS-AirAsia deal.

Maseu is worried that the move could affect the strength of the unions within the national carrier.

In MAS, aircraft engineers are divided. Some are members of MASEU, some are in MESA and some in MASMA

Malaysia Airlines today announced its deal with Queens Park Rangers Football Club (QPR) of United Kingdom to sponsor the jerseys of the club’s players during its home matches in the Barclays Premier League (BPL) for the seasons 2011/2012 and 2012/2013. Check out the photo of the jersey!

Eh, bankrupt2 pun ada duit nak sponsor team bola EPL? Genius Uncle Tony kan. Btw, it is a very hideous looking jersey LOL.

Don't you just feel for all those MAS staff who bought into the BTP story and sacrificed 'for a better tomorrow' ? :(
