MAS and AirAsia Shares Swap

Is there any MH management announced that all 6 A380 used to fly LHR?

A simple logical show that this will not happen

Criticism is a good thing for MH in this moment, but criticism without brain thinking is a joke

It was on The Star - but I don't know whether it's quoted accurately. The marketing team's been planning an Australian buzz for the A380 for months now, so I don't think we'll not see an A380 in SYD at all.

Thanks for the back room insight - we only had your boss' words on issue up to this point, which was no dugong for SYD now

Don't the marketing people update the poor (seemingly disconnected) chap up there ?

Or doesn't the big chief let his people know what he wants to say to the press ?

:)

I interpreted it as for now the Dugong's going to be focused on building up LHR ops, from 3x weekly to daily & then double daily. Once the full force of 6 A380 have been delivered then SYD may be on the cards.

Interesting, Emirates would probably mount a service between two points, allocate the planes, then order the marketing/sales ppl to fill 'em up!

MAS will operate 3 times weekly to LHR initially, then once the second A380 is delivered in July, the LHR will be served daily effective Aug. MH4, morning departure will most probably be operated by B777 then.

As for SYD, once the third A380 is delivered ( delayed due to work on wing cracks) the service will begin on 25 Nov

As I have said earlier, I worry that the top management seems not to know what they should do with the A380. Rather than seeing it as an opportunity to push sales, they are taking a negative stance and worrying about whether the plane can be filled!

The management should also be looking to take on CX on the KUL-HKG route. This is ideal for upgrade as it will help improve aircraft utilisation. Just run the KUL-HKG service once a day and make sure that domestic connecting flights from PEN, KCH, BKI and JHB feed pax to the KUL-HKG route...

Sorry to see such lead footed management at MH! :(

I said the above because when I attended the official launch of Emirates DXB/KUL A380 service recently, a senior guy from their KL office said to me, all this is very exciting, but now it's our job to fill up the planes!

Swee kee: criticism with brains is fine but personal attacks are pointless. It's a half serious comment so I don't need your opinion on what I should post

Naim: I agree. I am very underwhelmed by MH's offering. I can fly EK for 200 pounds cheaper than MH for the same time period. And with better options for IFE etc etc. That's a lot of money for me. Alas, I am one of those price sensitive Y class travellers!

MH should be promoting this A380 all out - now they want to compete with SQ, CX, TG, GA regionally with narrow body services? (never thought I would add GA there!)

No chance in hell. I love MH, but their management's pussy footing around their fundamental problems will not solve anything.

What is the figure asked for by MH to KUL ex UK nowadays ?

Understand SQ, QR and EK are offering in the 570-590 range, for travel by year's end

Interesting bit was 'Cheaper than MAS' title on the advert - going to be difficult to increse yield then, at least on the LHR runs !

Even SQ ? Ok. Not exactly very surprising there. MAS operating cost is so high that even a major carrier based in the most expensive city in Southeast Asia can't rival of :db:

Yeah, I saw that ad too. I thought it was hilarious, as if they think MAS should always be cheaper airline to fly with

MAS fare to KL is around £700 return, for travelling off season. Fares drops a bit when they do offers, but I haven't seen anything below £550 this year.

Vietnam Airlines has the cheapest fare at the moment, they're doing LGW-SE Asia return for around £450 all in :pardon:

That, as far as I remember, has been the case for 5 years or so before I relocated to Melbourne, Australia. Whenever I checked the airfare going to South East Asia or HK, SQ is always cheaper than MH, sometimes although the difference can be quite minor sometimes. Then you have EK doing MEL-KUL which is cheaper than MH, although at horrible hours (2am or 3am).

None of my family MH long haul for at least 6 or 7 years. Just better offering with SQ and EK, in terms of pricing, aircraft type and IFE. I am not so keen on their A380s either since I have been on both SQ and EK A380s too and the novelty is long gone. Would prefer to fly rare types such as A340-600 and so forth! :)

There are a few hundred thousand Filipinos and Indonesians working in the Middle East, those living outside MNL and CGK, may need to take different airlines before reaching their home town. If MH expand into Philippines and Indonesia secondary cities could easily fill up daily service to Middle East.

Closer at home, there are a few hundred thousand Napalis working in the country and yet MH is not serving Kathmandu. It seems MH management are either colour blind, find these pax profile too lowly or only interested in prestige market.

Perhaps the unions have decided the non-prestige market be dealt with by the red party ?

MAS fare to KL is around £700 return, for travelling off season. Fares drops a bit when they do offers, but I haven't seen anything below £550 this year.

BC, for off peak flights to KUL from LON.. QR and EK range from 480 - 550 pounds. MH is 700-900.

Peak season for e.g. August 2012, I booked EK in January for 659 pounds (good deal) on the A380. MH on the other hand cost 859 pounds for the same dates.

Thanks for the info :)

By comparison, we used to pay in region of 500 GBP return LHR-BKI (as opposed to LHR-KUL above) something like 20+ years back

It's amazing that other carriers have sort of managed to maintain prices despite inflation over that period of time, whilst MAS has ..... shall we say significantly raised the benchmark ? :D

That is on assumption defence was viable or an option at all :)

It is a known fact that MH is unable to attract premium pax (e.g. FRA, ZRH, CDG, etc) for lack of daily frequency and limited regional network. To serve long haul daily and be profitable, smaller aircrafts like A332, 787 is idea. For regional that are over capacity for daily 734 (e.g. HDY, VTE, CEB, etc), combination of ERJ, CRJ, E-170, E-190 are needed. However, MH structure and mind set is inherited from 742, DC-10, A300, 732 and F27 era. Until MH can think out of the box, powerful unions are dismantled and the 1990’s business model is changed, it is hard to convince MH can change for the better.
