MAS and AirAsia Shares Swap

Because Hibiscus is red. The Board does not want red remember.

How sensitive by the colour itself. Instead of thinking what the colour represents, why don't think what the hibiscus represents, which is the national flower.

Would only the A380's be in new livery or the whole fleet?

They may apply special livery on the first and second aircraft while the rest shall be painted with normal livery.

Imagine all 6 MH A380 comes in special livery.......yahoo.gif

They should name their first A380 'Kuala Lumpur' and then paint all of Kuala Lumpur's landmarks on it and do the same for the remaining 5 A380's. Maybe Putrajaya, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Johor Bahru? :pardon:

Let imagine if they not choose the city but decided to put our 6 PM's name on a380, start with Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Abdul Razak, Tun Hussein Onn, Tun Mahathir, Tun Abdullah and DS Mohd Najib. Nothing imposibble.

Name isn't really bad but I don't think it will happen as the name of the plane will be too long........it will be worse if they decide to put the face of each of the PM up on the plane.....

Airasia did put Tun Dr M face on one of their A320 and maybe MH just put short name as Rahman, Razak, Hussien, Mahathir, Abdullah and Najib.

No. I prefer they use neutral names like state capitals ala the 744s rather than political figures.

Latest rumour heard, more routes will be cut starting next year. Stations involved will be EZE, CPT, JNB, DXB and 1 other. In the case of DXB, it seems the management is properly spooked with the imminent threat of EK's dugongs that they would rather surrender than fight back. Air Asia X will probably take over the route to South Africa.

So in the end, different management but same old story. MH will continue to shrink and looking sorrier by the minute.

I thought KUL-CPT-EZE is profitable, no? Slaughtered by EK, haha no wonder, with their ancient equipment.

Heard so too. And with MH joining Oneworld next year their South American needs would be well met by LAN from AKL, while either CPT or JNB could be a codeshare on QF from SYD.

Goodbye 6 Continents Club.

if the rumours are true, and CPT, JNB and EZE do get axed..I think not only MAS will be leaving the 6 continents club, but also 5 continents Club. Say hello to 4 continents club

Cutting DXB would be incredible. I'll believe it when I see it. Regarding South Africa and EZE, I remember that MH actually wanted to increase frequency but were not allowed? So...

Present state in MAS :

Receiving new aircrafts (B738 & A333 and soon A380) + receiving B738 from Firefly = slow fleet retiring process + cutting routes

I think the equation just doesn't seems right

3 A330 unutilised. 3 B744 with 455 seats unutilised/underutilised. 2 incoming A330Freighters. More 738s on the way. FY 738s parked.....MasKargo AOC effort stopped midway....MAS management must have a big grand plan awaiting revelation soon....maybe something radical....I'm sure they are not dumb....

But then, any unutilised aircraft can be returned to PMB, and encumberance removed from MH books ( my assumption may be wrong ) and PMB is Khazanah, and Khazanah is Rakyat's......plot somewhat thickens....

Hahahaha, yes! Everything points back to Khazanah!

I think that only the new MX* and MT*/MU* series are on MH's books. Those idle aircraft are all PMBs or external lessors'. Freight market is softening. So what is MH going to do with the new A332F's?

Parliament: MAS Disposed Off Shares In MCSB To Restructure Company Finance

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines System Bhd (MAS) disposed off 70 per cent of its shares in MAS Catering Sdn Bhd (MCSB) in 2002 as part of the airline company's financial restructuring strategy, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

Najib who is also Finance Minister said the move was to enable MAS to concentrate on its core activities of providing domestic and international flights and cargo services.

"It was to also provide MAS much needed funds at that point while retaining its 30 per cent equity in MCSB to take care of its interest," he said in a written reply at the Dewan Rakyat today.

He said this in his reply to a question from Wee Choo Keong (Bebas-Wangsa Maju) who wanted to know why MAS sold its shares in MCSB to another company and forced to buy all the food and beverages and other cabin services from the company for 25 years with a guarantee of profit.

On July 30, 2002, MAS disposed its 70 per cent stake in MCSB to Konsortium Gubahan Saujana Sdn Bhd at a fair market price of RM175 million following a due diligence.

Following the disposal, MAS and MCSB signed a Catering Agreement, the Prime Minister said.

"The agreement for 25 years was a long term strategic partnership between the airline and food supplier/catering company and was necessary to be continued to ensure that the quality of food supplied by MAS to its passengers remained well and good," he said.

Najib also said the agreement could be terminated with the condition that the party wishing to end the agreement buy the other party's shares or conduct a Buy Back Event.

MAS to axe unprofitable routes

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines (MAS), which will be relocating its headquarters (HQ) from Subang to KL International Airport (KLIA) in February next year, will cut several routes including those to Dubai, Johannesburg, Buenos Aires and Cape Town, in a bid to reduce costs, sources said.

The sources added that MAS would no longer rely on Kota Kinabalu as a hub and would cut flights out of the Sabah capital to destinations such as Haneda, Seoul and Osaka.

In February, MAS would stop flying to Johannesburg, Cape Town and Buenos Aires, they said. As for the pullout from the Dubai sector, this will be done gradually, first with the reduction of weekly flights and those via Karachi and Damman.

“These are seen as critical routes that do not bring in the yields or are highly competitive, and the best way to bring down costs is to axe the unprofitable routes first,'' said a source.

The sources claimed that the airline might add Abu Dhabi as a destination in place of Dubai, a route served by Emirates several times weekly, but whether it was a wise move would remain to be seen as Abu Dhabi is an equally competitive route.

The sources added that choosing Kota Kinabalu as a hub was not a strategic move in the first place and now the airline had to reverse the decision. This is the second time that MAS has abandoned the idea of using Kota Kinabalu as a hub. The first attempt was in 2003.

MAS is currently conducting a review of its entire route network and sources claimed that there would be more route cuts. However, new destinations and frequencies will be added to those that bring in the yields.

“They should focus on areas that gives them good yields instead of trying to fly to destinations just for the sake of having linkages. Gone are the days when connectivity was a must, now the focus should be on making money rather than community service,'' said a source.

On the move to KLIA, which will be its second HQ shift in a decade, it is intended to consolidate its administrative operations in one location rather than maintain several. Currently, MAS operates from five places three at Subang and two at KLIA. The move will reduce the number of locations to three two in Subang and one in KLIA.

The new administration and headquarters will be located at the South Support Zone at KLIA. However, the Firefly turboprop operations, engineering and maintenance (E&M) as well as the Malaysia Airlines Academy will remain at Subang. The E&M division needs to stay at Subang because it has three hangars in that location and it would cost too much to relocate them.

“The move may be good for the airline as it wants to consolidate its operations and bring down costs, but it will be a costly affair for employees, whose travelling cost will rise along with their travelling time.

“The last shift was from Jalan Sultan Ismail to Subang. The question is, with the advent of technology, is there really a need to consolidate the operations to KLIA/LCCT... unless there is a plan to sell the land in Subang or even develop it?'' asked a source.

According to its annual report, MAS has 32 office and workshop buildings at Subang which covers 4.6 million sq feet and the net book value of the assets is RM233mil.

Thanks for the updates guy. Been busy not follwing any news.

This seems like second WAU to me. MH is moving their HQ again and again. like nomads.

MH is finally cutting EZE, CPT, and JHB, an idea originally mooted in 2002 WAU. During that period, politicians were up in arms, saying MH will lose its 'prestigiousness'!! Remember NY episode? DXB is clearly a sad loss for MH, all thanks to EK's dominance. I presume tickets to DXB will shoot across the roof once MH pulls out of the market.

Sadly, KK is yet being cut again. How many times MH needs to be "slapped" before they REALLY know that to use KK as a hub is not viable without any proper shot to long term plan??

Any job cut?? MH is too bloated...

I thought the route was actually doing well?? Apparently not...

Perhaps with smaller a/c they could make this work, but currently no ETOPS a/c can do CPT-EZE sector.

Brilliant move on Bki. Rationalise Fy. Now gradual withdrawal of Mh. The field now goes wide open for AK. Kch may be next. Why share when one can manipulate to dominate.
