Thai's A380 seats configuration

TG announced its A380 configuration and first 3 routes. http://airlineroute.net/2011/04/06/tg-380744/

 

First 3 of 6 Airbus A380 aircraft, in F12C60Y435 configuration, is due to arrive September 2012, and will inaugurate service to Frankfurt due to slot constraint, followed by London Heathrow and Paris CDG.

 

On A380, First and Business Class are located on the upper deck. Business Class in particular features full lie-flat seats. Economy Class are located on the lower deck with AVOD system.

 

Updated seat configuration of all current and future A380 operators as at 7 April 2011:

 

SQ - 12R, 60J, 399Y = 471 seats (9V-SKA - 9V-SKK)

SQ - *New configuration is to be announced for 12th (9V-SKL) and subsequent A380s, rumoured to be 12R, 88J, 311Y = 411 seats

EK - 14F, 76J, 399Y = 489 seats 'Ultra Long Range'

EK - 14F, 76J, 427Y = 517 seats 'Long Range' (A6-EDG, ...)

QF - 14F, 72J, 32Y+, 332Y = 450 seats

AF - 9F, 80J, 449Y = 538 seats

AF - 9F, 80J, 38Y+, 389Y = 516 seats

LH - 8F, 98J, 420Y = 526 seats

KE - 12F, 94J, 301Y = 407 seats

MH - 8F, 54J, 26Y+, 420Y = 510 seats

QR - xF, xJ, xY = 517 seats

CZ - 8F, 70J, 428Y = 506 seats

TG - 12F, 60J, 435Y = 507 seats

Interesting arrangement... On one hand putting premium pax on upper deck gives the premium pax some sense of exclusivity. On the other hand, given the narrower width on upper deck, are we going to expect TG use 1-1-1 arrangement for their FYCL seats?

 

 

And I'm surprised that they don't put Y+ especially when they already have that class on their A340s.

TG's configuration seems to be too wide for the premium seats on the upper deck and too narrow for the coach class on the main deck.

 

Here are the number of seats on the main deck for airlines that assigned the entire main deck only for Economy Class:

 

EK - 'Ultra Long Range' = 399 seats

EK - 'Long Range' = 427 seats

LH = 420 seats

TG = 435 seats

 

With 435 Y seats on the entire main deck, TG's Economy class configuration is the most dense (read: the narrowest pitch) amongst all A380 current and future operators in the world.

Wow, really nice! I like their J seats, although look a bit like EK.

I'm quite surprised they won't have any premium Eco since they already have this class on A345.

One word: AWESOME!!

 

Beyond words to describe. I like how they use the Upper Deck nose area as socialising area. The Royal First and Silk Class bars are nice touch! And the lavatory looks amazing!!

 

In terms of seat designs, there is not much difference from seats we have seen today. But the colours they've chosen makes the A380 looks less cramped. My only complain would be why their J class is same as EK's? Too boxy feeling.

 

Thai really loves to put in large galley area like those on B744 now. Lower deck are all Y class, and half some on Upper Deck. As the video nears the end, you can see a lot of cabinet. I wonder what will they carried? Lots of magazines and duty free goods?

 

Overall, an awesome A380 configuration by TG!! I will start saving now! :yahoo: :yahoo:

The TG A380 J seats are exactly like EY's, not EK's.

Thai Airways to deploy first A380 on Frankfurt route from Sep-2012

 

Thai Airways is due to receive its first three A380s in 2H2012, with the first aircraft slated for delivery in Sep-2012. Mr Piyasvasti tells CAPA that the first batch of aircraft will be used on Thai’s Bangkok-Frankfurt route from Sep-2012. He says the plan is to also start deploying the A380 on Bangkok-London Heathrow and Bangkok-Sydney in 2013 as the second batch of aircraft from Thai’s six-aircraft order arrives. Thai Airway’s fleet plan shows three A380 deliveries scheduled for 2012 followed by the final three deliveries in 2013.

 

Thai Airways already operates two daily flights to Frankfurt, London and Sydney. According to Innovata’s schedule database, both Frankfurt and London flights are currently operated with B747-400s while the two Sydney flights are now operated with A340-600s. Thai Airways is expected to use the A380 for at least one daily frequency in each market.

 

If given the choice, Thai Airways would likely not move forward with its A380 order as it would be better off replacing B747-400s and A340s with medium-size widebody aircraft, allowing it to better match capacity with expected medium-term demand while maintaining frequency. But with Thai’s A380s already well into the production process, a cancellation of the order is no longer an option.

 

The ill-timed introduction of the A380s will likely pose a network dilemma for Thai Airways in 2H2012 and 2013. The carrier will have to choose between reducing frequency to Frankfurt, London and Sydney to one daily flight or increasing capacity as the A380 replaces B747s and A340s. Frequency reduction would not be Thai Airway’s preference as having two flights in each market are needed for it maintain the connections within Asia and on the kangaroo route that it relies on to fill up its long-haul network. But retaining the existing level of frequencies as the A380s are delivered means increasing capacity at a time when Thai Airways is already struggling to fill up its B747-400s.

Nice if TG could deploy the big bird to hot destinations. But I doubt it would be materialised if the Bangkok flood keeps worsening...

Could be case of another one fallen for the "me too" syndrome very prevalent a few years back :)

Thai Airways International's first Airbus A380 will be registered HS-TUA and when first delivered, this will deployed on flights to Hong Kong. With the delivery of the second and subsequent A380s, operations will be extended to Frankfurt, Paris-CDG and London-Heathrow. A pity that Thai's order for A380s did not reach ten ... otherwise no. 10 will be registered HS-TUK and would be the best plane to celebrate the iconic tuk tuk.

 

Hope that by then, the European economic situation has improved because I have just heard that loadings on European flights for various Asian carriers this month has been extremely dismal.

Thai Airways is one of two new A380 operators due to take delivery of its first aircraft this year.

 

 

The Rolls-Royce Trent 900-powered aircraft was rolled out on Jan. 18 in Hamburg. Delivery is planned in the third quarter. It will be ninth A380 operator.

THAI’s first A380 makes maiden flight from Toulouse

 

 

Next phase will be cabin installation and aircraft painting

 

6 March 2012

 

The first A380 for Thai Airways International (THAI) took off for its maiden flight on 5th March following completion of the airframe assembly and system tests in Toulouse, France.

 

After a successful flight of more than four hours, the aircraft landed in Hamburg, Germany, where it is entering the next phase of production, covering cabin installation and painting.

 

THAI will become the ninth operator of the A380 when it takes delivery of its first aircraft in the third quarter of 2012. The airline has firm orders for six A380s and will operate the aircraft on its premier routes from Bangkok to Europe.

TG will fly their first A380 between BKK and SIN. As per Jim's blog, the schedule is as follows:

 

Bangkok – Singapore 28OCT12 – 14DEC12

TG409 BKK1650 – 2010SIN 380 D

TG410 SIN2150 – 2310BKK 380 D

 

Great opportunity for MW members to try TG's latest product onboard the whale jet.

I think that this is done only during the A380 introduction period only - more for ensuring everything in the aircraft runs OK and also for crew training. I am sure it will be deployed to LHR and longer routes once this is complete.

 

The lowest SIN-BKK return fare isn't too bad, S$ 367.50.

Heard a lot of possible destination for TG A380... seems they still cant make up their mind. At least MAS is firm with LHR & SYD.. kinda of good thing :)

Almost all A380 operators done a short hop during the early phase of its A380 operation timeline mainly for crew familiarisation, remember AF's summer 2010 CDG-LHR vv? Some other temporary short haul A380 routes in the past are KE's ICN-HKG, KE's ICN-NRT and CZ's PEK-PVG. TG is now doing 5 daily BKK-SIN all widebody flight, so I guess to upgauge one of them to A380 is a fair decision with regards to supply and demand.

 

I thought it has been firmed that TG's official first A380 destination is FRA (where ironically LH is mulling to pull out from the route on the reverse direction).

 

The BKK-SIN vv A380 tickets can now be purchased from TG's website but it seems they are not selling the First Class seats there.
