H Azmal 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 DCA probes near mid-air collisionDESIREE TRESA GASPER and YEE XIANG YUN at the Johor State Assembly SENAI: The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) is probing a case involving an Airbus 320 which almost collided into a light aircraft belonging to a private flying club at the Senai International Airport here. It is learnt that at least one flight controller has been suspended following the incident at 9.40am on June 23. DCA director of the Air Traffic Management Sector Ahmad Nizar Zolfakar, when contacted, confirmed that investigations were being conducted by the inspectorate division of the air traffic services. The investigations, he said, would take at least a month. However, he declined to elaborate further, saying that the probe was still in the initial stages. It is believed that the Airbus, which was carrying about 140 passengers and crew members, had taken off from the airport when the Cessna, which was directed to stay in the air until the airbus had cleared the area, swerved into its departure path. “The Airbus flew just below the Cessna, narrowly missing it. This was an incident which could have been catastrophic,” an airport source said, adding that there were at least two pilots in the Cessna. The Airbus pilot has lodged an official report on the matter.

Radzi 2 Report post Posted June 29, 2011 In JHB, GA aircraft are usually told to hold somewhere on downwind position for RPT departure. Maybe they missed out on this?
