MAS Joins oneworld!

So would it be possible to transfer miles between programmes then?

While it is true that one cannot transfer miles between programmes, there is a website - www.points.com - where one could trade / sell miles with another individual ... eg. you could sell/trade your unwanted Delta miles for UA miles if there is another person who has unwanted UA miles wanting more Delta miles.

I am not sure how the scheme works and if any money changes hand ... perhaps someone else have the answers.

Malaysia Airlines Links Up To Global Explorer Round-The-World Fare

BackJan 31, 2012

Tuesday, 31 January 2011:oneworld® member elect Malaysia Airlines’ full global schedule involving around60 destinations worldwide will be included in the Global Explorer from tomorrow, adding one of the most attractive networks in South East Asia to the round-the-world fare offered by all members of the alliance and selected other airlines.

Through this coverage, almost 20 more cities of Malaysia Airlines’ network in South East Asia, including two more countries namely Brunei and Myanmar, will be added to the Global Explorer map, expanding the round-the-worlds global reach to more than 900 destinations in nearly 150 countries.

Some destinations that Malaysia Airlines adds to Global Explorer include Johor Bahru, Langkawi and Kuching in Malaysia, Myanmar capital Yangon, Indonesias Medan and Cambodias Siem Reap.

Global Explorer covers all routes offered by oneworlds existing member airlines American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malév Hungarian Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and Russias S7 plus some 20 affiliated carriers, including LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador, LAN Peru, Chinas Dragonair and South Africas Comair.

Global Explorer is also offered by a number of airlines that have no links with oneworld Aer Lingus, Air Pacific, Alaska Airlines and its Horizon Airlines sister, Gulf Air and Meridianafly. Flights carrying the Qantas code but operated by Air Tahiti Nui, Jetstar, South African Airways and Vietnam Airlines are included too, expanding the reach covered by the fare further still.

For travel from Malaysia, four tiers of Global Explorer fares are offered with tier 1 economy fare starting from as low as RM11,184.00 (excluding taxes and surcharges) covering five cities around the world. The highest, tier 4 economy fare, from Malaysia is capped at RM18,171.00 (excluding taxes and surcharges) for travel covering a maximum of 15 cities.

Child fares (between 2 to 11 years) and infant fares (up to 23 months of age) are charged at 75% and 10% of the applicable adult fare.

Bookings and ticketing for this fare can be made direct with systemwide ticket offices of both Malaysia Airlines andoneworld member airlines as well as the other participating airlines. This fare is also available through all appointed agents of these airlines.

An attractive feature of this fare is the free baggage allowance where each adult and child passenger is permitted to check in two pieces of baggage each weighing up to 23 kilograms per piece. Normal charges apply for baggage weights in excess of the free allowance.

Another aspect is the fare validity .Whilst the minimum travel validity for all four tiers is 10 days, the maximum validity allows the journey to be completed within one year from the date of travel of the first sector.

This represents a first step by Malaysia Airlines towards becoming a full member of oneworld, which is on track for later this year. By then Malaysia’s national carrier will start participating in the full range of the alliances fares and offer all other services and benefits of the alliance to customers.

Meanwhile, ones network to be added when it boards oneworld later this spring. Both will start participating in the full range of the oneworld fares once they join the alliance.

Global Explorer offers simple, flexible, and great value round-the-world travel for trips of up to one year long.

Four versions of Global Explorer are available. Tiers 1, 2 and 4 are for travel only in Economy Class, but Tier 3 can be used also in First or Business. Not all tiers are available from all countries.

Is it the code-sharing arrangements or talks over the premium airline that QF wants to set up? I'm sure the code-sharing agreements would be easy enough. The QF premium airline talks broke down over ownership and howmuch they would have to invest.

Malaysia Airlines Well Poised To Join oneworld® Alliance

by Malaysia Airlines on Wednesday, 21 March 2012 at 15:05 ·

405093_368101333230517_185723778134941_1097678_345740846_a.jpgSubang (21 March 2012): Malaysia Airlines is well poised to become a full member of the oneworld® alliance by end of this year.

Whilst the national carrier is rationalizing its network as part of Business Plan to return to profitability, the entry into oneworld® will considerably enhance its network while providing baseload demand from fellow oneworld® members.

Yesterday (20 March 2012) airberlin, serving 162 destinations in 40 countries with a fleet of 170 aircraft and a workforce of 9,200 employees, became part of oneworld®, adding the second biggest airline in Germany and the sixth biggest in the European continent overall to the world’s premier global airline alliance. Austria’s NIKI, also a member of the airberlin group, joined oneworld® as an affiliate member at the same time.

The Group CEO (GCEO) of Malaysia Airlines, Encik Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, together with key leaders of the member airlines including American Airlines Chairman and Chief Executive, and Chairman of the oneworld® Governing Board, Tom Horton, IAG Chief Executive Willie Walsh and Qantas Chief Executive Officer Alan Joyce, as well as oneworld® CEO Bruce Ashby gathered at airberlin’s Berlin home to welcome on board the alliance’s latest recruit.

Speaking at the welcoming event, Encik Ahmad Jauhari said, “After airberlin, Malaysia’s national carrier will become full member of oneworld® alliance. The prospect of being able to offer improved global coverage and connectivity through an expanded network of great airlines to Malaysia Airlines’ guests is indeed very exciting. Our customers, in particular members of our Enrich loyalty programme, will benefit from increased rewards and recognition whilst enjoying more seamless air travel options

“We look forward to our full membership that will improve our brand awareness amongst the alliance members’ customers and enhance our load factors through additional partner traffic. These in turn will drive the hub connectivity to facilitate our global reach through oneworld’s network of some 800 destinations in 150 countries. This membership will be among the significant catalysts that will complement our efforts to win back customers and become a profitable preferred premium carrier as outlined in our Business Plan.

About oneworld

oneworld® aims to be the airline alliance of choice for the world’s frequent international travellers. It brings together some of the best and biggest names in the airline business – airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and S7 Airlines, as well as around 20 affiliates including Austria’s NIKI, American Eagle, Dragonair, LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador and LAN Peru. Malaysia Airlines is on track to join later in 2012.

oneworld® is current holder of more international awards for airline alliances than any of its competitors - named the Best Airline Alliance by Global Traveler in itsGT Tested Reader Survey 2011 Awardsfor the second year running, the World’s Leading Airline Alliance in the 2011 World Travel Awards, for the ninth consecutive year, and the Best Airline Alliance 2011 in Australian Business Traveller’s debut awards.

Malaysia Airlines Well Poised To Join oneworld® Alliance

Our customers, in particular members of our Enrich loyalty programme, will benefit from increased rewards and recognition whilst enjoying more seamless air travel options ...

... as well as, soon, a new loyalty programme head who we hope will actually know the intricacies of running a frequent flyer programme and will roll up his or her sleeves to ensure that it is a well-oiled machine with an efficient back-end system (and not only know how to look good in photos).

With KUL being an alliance hub, won't it make sense for BA and QF to at least have daily flights in?

Has been discussed to death earlier. Do a search.

They don't know nor care what is old logo and what is new logo

It's obvious from that hybrid thing that has been plastered on the dugongs so far :D

Does anyone know when is the actual date that MH will join One World ?

I want to know too. Surely there's got to be a tentative date. The last thing I'd read on this was that they were aiming for 3rd quarter entry. I really hope they can join by the end of the 3rd quarter.

Such a PR disaster leaving many to wonder "WTF!".... This Landor designed "thing" isn't the nicest thing to look at either.

Glad to hear the red is coming back to the logo though! Please keep the logo orientation back to where it was.
