MAS Joins oneworld!

And they seriously need to do something about their Economy Class meal service for flights around SEA. The meal presentation is cheap.

Really??? I agree MH meals are not great but try CX........ not only lousy meal but served by 'wanchai moles' who always projected 'pax-is-a-burden look in their faces, even in their premium classes.

It's certified 5-star by Skytrax but there are many things that are not 5-star about this airline. And they seriously need to do something about their Economy Class meal service for flights around SEA. The meal presentation is cheap.

I think their meal presentation and offerings still beat SilkAir.

MH really needs to upgrade the business class product on the A333 and B772 to effectively compete on the long-haul routes. Even the business class product on the A380 is already a little dated!

I hope they will have more business class seats for the remaining of the A380s. The main criticism is that the current ones do not have direct aisle access to some.

I've tried CX... and i just took two CX flights less than 2 months ago (well, three if you count the brief stop at TPE as another one lol) and i agree that the meals served out of HKG is always a hit or miss but i was talking about the meal presentation in Y. The Economy Class meal presentation in CX Y definitely beats MAS hands down! No doubt on that.

The blue tray that MAS now sometimes use in Y class doesn't look new to me. The tray actually looks suspiciously like the old tray Air Asia used more than 10 years ago (am talking the full-service Air Asia, pre-Tune Air takeover).

While we're on this, MAS was supposed to introduce new service wares (new trays, cutleries etc) last year. Any news on this ?

On longer flights may be but Y meals served on short-haul flights definitely aren't better than MI. The meal portion is so small on all Silkair flights (Y Class) though. But presentation wise, it is fine especially with the new orange tray.

On a typical BKI-KUL flight, besides the main course, they usually will give you a plastic wrap banana cake and may be a kit kat bar and that's it. It's the same on a KUL-BKK flight too. I'm so puzzled on how can this be called 5-star :pardon: It's probably time that Skytrax comes up with a 6-star rating and move SQ and CX to that new category...

I find the discussion on One World lounge access here very amusing. Look at SQ... they have a separate lounge for second class Star Gold members... and they don't give a damn...

As for CX... I have had a few flights with them but none was outstanding. Good, but there wasn't that special feeling like being on MH or SQ. HK hub is far superior though...

Interesting article :)

Airlines' tangled alliances evolve: British Airways-Cathay Pacific codeshare to Australia - for now

Implications continue to emerge from the Sep-2012 landmark Emirates-Qantas alliance, the latest development being a codeshare covering Australia for British Airways and Cathay Pacific. Although the two are members of the oneworld alliance and at first blush may be considered partners, they had the most minimal of ties, owing to significant competition between them.

That competitive situation still exists but other factors have changed: BA's once deep partner Qantas is now a competitor, aligned with Emirates, and is establishing a Jetstar franchise on Cathay's home turf in Hong Kong. BA and Cathay are united by a common enemy – not the first occasion this reasoning has spawned an alliance – but also other factors. BA has lost its Australian network access and Cathay fits in; meanwhile Cathay will be receptive to feed to sustain its positioning after China Southern and Singapore Airlines have made large capacity increases in Australia.

Alliances are evolving, and this partnership will surely change – or go extinct – as BA becomes more familiar with new oneworld members Malaysia Airlines and Qatar Airways, with whom it will have more in common than it does with Cathay.

I've only seen them being used on the A380 Y services. Very much the same hardware as Omanair's Y, just some different colours here & there.

I think BA could justify its own metal in PER especially, given the capacity reductions by QF on PER-SIN for onwards connections to Europe. Perhaps LHR-KUL-PER vv in the making?

MAS creating big buzz online

MALAYSIA Airlines (MAS)' "oneworld" social media campaign, which was rolled out at the end of January, has resulted in the airline's strong online brand presence.

IPG Mediabrands Malaysia said after three weeks, figures have shown consistently strong brand presence with more than 2,000 online users talking daily about MAS compared with almost nil before the rollout.

Rally, the social media specialists division for IPG Mediabrands Malaysia, launched the "oneworld" campaign on January 31.

"Leveraging on MAS' new oneworld alliance, the campaign featured the biggest live stream production in YouTube Malaysia history, housed on a rebranded MAS YouTube channel on January 31.

"The YouTube masthead reached between 1.25 million and 1.5 million unique visitors in the first two days of its launch," IPG Mediabrands Malaysia said in a statement.

It said the channel also achieved 6.32 million impressions, with 1.5 million unique visitors during the first two days.

The live stream that ran from 8am till midnight showcased the launch event during the day and the gala dinner featuring social programmes of interest.

"It garnered 11,290 plays on the first day. This included a social live chat show hosted by actor and TV personality Nazrudin Habibur Rahman, who reported live and interacted with key personalities from the aviation world.

"Featuring events from the launch and the unveiling of the oneworld Malaysia Airlines plane on the tarmac to the glitzy red carpet in the evening, the live cast was followed by more than 40,000 viewers from around the world," it said.

MAS also launched the "oneworld" campaign mobile app, MHjourneys, a first of its kind among airlines that interacts in augmented reality with all media, including print, video, online and out-of-home as a trigger point available from the appstore and Google Play.

IPG Mediabrands Malaysia said Rally also created the interactive Facebook application within oneworld and aviation social circles, which will be launched on Monday.

"The most immersive experience with oneworld to date is on its Facebook page, where fans and the community on Facebook will be able to explore and unlock oneworld destinations. Fans can also exchange social currency for real reward points."

It said the concept of the application was built on bringing the oneworld preposition to life in a relatable and meaningful manner while still showcasing the benefits of being part of MAS' loyalty programme.

The oneworld alliance includes some of the world's leading airlines and around 30 affiliated carriers. Together, these airlines operate nearly 10,000 daily flights to more than 850 destinations.

Rally has offices in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines and South Korea.

SImilar but not same. Looks like taken a second earlier or later. Just look at one of the "canoes" on the starboard wing in relation to the front landing gear.

Looks like The Star photo was the next shot after the A.net's photo. Not surprising, Ian was one of the official photographer for the event. Some of the photos went to become MAS property, and my guess is that it was official photo from MAS that was published by The Star.

Was just wondering if The Star used the photo with his consent. But now that everything is clarified, I guess all is well and good. Thanks for clarifying!

That's a good start. I hope their code-sharing arrangements expands into Canada.

I wonder when MH and DL will end their FFP association.

Probably until the agreement expires. MH and VS FFP agreement probably will likewise be ended sometime in the future but as now seems you can use your Enrich with both BA and VS.
