MAS Current Fleet Withdrawal Thread

Recommended Posts

Hahaha jargon is jargon. I apologise, am too comfortable in using jargon to be more concise. That's why I help moderate the tech forum.

CPDLC - SMS-like communication between controllers and pilots.

ADS-C - Automatic Dependance Surveillance Mode C - Satellite based controller tracking, with intermittent (every 15 mins) automatic position relay.

ADS-B - As above, Mode B - continuous satellite-based position information for tracking airplanes. Flightradar24 uses such technology to track airplanes :)

PBN - Performance Based navigation - using satellites and very precise positioning data to maximize use of airspace and to provide alternate non-ground based modes of navigation (e.g. VOR, NDB beacons, ILS systems)

Hope this helps. Was actually thinking this convo is more suited to the technical forum.

Does a B734 have ADS-B? Cause I cant seem to track MAS B734 in FlightRadar24. Where as other B734 like the one flying for Gading Sari Aviation can be track on fr24.

Seems like ADS-B isn't installed on MH B734s. The other day I tracked my parents flight from KUL, but didn't even see the aircraft on FR24, so I thought probably they were on board B734 (I was right).

No ADS-B and no GPS, single FMC for MH B734, which the current rumor says will be all retired by 2014.

Apologies, noted an error with my earlier post. ADS-B is Broadcast and ADS-C is Contract.. Not modes - those are for transponders :)

OT - I wonder what is the current ruling on the installation of ADS-B on aircraft? MH's B734s do not have ADS-B, but Gading Sari's B734 cargo have. Both 9M-GSA and 9M-GSB can be tracked on FR24.

Some Royal Brunei A320 (V8-RBS and RBT I think) not traceable on FR24, but RBV can. The new Awan Inspirasi helicopter (9M-AIR, I think it's a AW139) can be tracked.

Both ATR72-500 & 600 carry the same number of passenger, but only -600 is traceable on FR24.

Ahah, maybe that is why I was not able to track my son's flight from BWN few months back - nett resulted in me having 5 minutes to make it to the airport to pick him up :)

Just 15 of the B772s left. I wonder how many more will leave the fleet next year.

Will all 15 of the MH's new A33Es be delivered by the end of this year?

No, it was withdrawn from use in early April this year, stored in Lourdes, France since early Oct before being ferried to TLV on 4th Nov.

Don't think so. MH8xxx series are designated for Haj charters. IIRC, MH5xxx series are for non-rev flights (i.e. Ferry, Training flights). MH6xxx flights are for Cargo, MH7xxx flights are for charter.

It would be a shame if MRQ got scrapped since it's the youngest one of the B772 fleet.

Going for new operator maybe? MQ-series is the latest among 734 so maybe it still hold some value.. Rumour has it that Eaglexpress is looking for narrow-body as feeder for their operation.. They are aquiring 777 ex-RB (ex-SQ) too

9M-MRQ heading to scrap yard?

Plus MRQ is one of the only 2 B772 frames that MH owned (the other being MRP). The rest of the B772 fleet are all leased from PMB. Logically, these frames would be the last two that will be retired.

There was MQA to MQQ at one time or another in MAS, as well as the complete set MMA to MMZ.
