MAS Current Fleet Withdrawal Thread

Recommended Posts

9M-MQD and MQN had retired sometime back. Anyone has the latest info on the B734 fleet and older A330 fleet? As for latter, have all of them been retired?

All A330 classics are out of system. Whereas, there are 11 B734s still operational (not sure those on heavy maintenance checks)

The list MMB MMD MMF MMJ MML MMU MMW and MMX and MQA MQB and MQE

Are these the leased aircraft that MH decided to buy because the costs to return them to lessors are too high?

Found this on ch.aviation:

Aerolíneas Argentinas to take four ex-Malaysia Airlines A330-200s
26APR2013
Aerolineas Argentinas (AR, Buenos Aires Ezeiza) is to take delivery of four ex-Atlasjet Airlines (KK, Antalya) and ex-Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur Int'l) A330-200s (c/n's 290, 300, 358 and 364). The four form part of the Argentine carrier's greater plans to acquire twelve A330s over the next four years, allowing it to replace "most" of its long haul fleet which includes four A340-200s and seven A340-300s. According to Latin American news outlets, the four aircraft are to be leased from aircraft lessor ILFC for planned use on flights to Bogotá, Miami Int'l, Cancún and Caracas Simón Bolivar.

Hey zamim, thank you very much for the update! Much appreciated!

I was planning to catch the older gen of A330, especially the J class. Oh well, life as it is. It seems like the B734 days are also numbered. 11 in operation currently down from 37 at its peak. Need to catch them soon!

B777-2H6ER 9M-MRI is ferried to Lourdes on 3rd-4th Oct for scrapping. Bye MRI!

Can anyone tell me why they scrap newer delivered plane first?

Could be that it has the higher number of cycles done.

Pressurising and depressurising weakens the aircraft structure.

At least I now know why the latest Going Places magazine listed the number of B772s in the fleet at 15.

Looks like many 777-200ER will never have a 2nd life anymore.

The newer A330HGWs kill off the B77A and B772ER.

Correct.

Going Places has listed 15 B777s since early January. Seems like their fate has been decided earlier on.

So how many B772 will be left with MH?

With A330HGWs taking over most of B777's role, I supposed all B777s will be retired. -MRK and -MRI had left so far.

This should accelerate the suspension of all the remaining old 734s.

From the MH Rumour Department:

MH 738 Captain: pasni 734 hanya buat trip inter semenanjung je tak buleh cross south china sea dah, singapore air taffic controller tak benarkan 734.

Really... I have a 734 to east malaysia soon. I wouldn't mind one last time on those birds before MH retires them.

A bit curious, what is the justification for Singapore ATC for not allowing B734s to fly across the sea? Is it due to technical reasons?
