Hard to guess the airport with the night picture, but looking at the cargo pellets, KLAS steps and references to KoreanAir Cargo B747, my guess will be PEN / WMKP.

On their next takeoff, KE will rotate very late, JS will rotate very early. :yahoo:

I just love Captain Radzi's answer.

a little bit OT, but when dealing with hotel rooms for both north and south korea delegates during international conference involving senior officials, both of them can't stay next door, and even on the same floor.

I bet the communist would want to stay on the higher floor.

Air Koryo expands in Asia with flights to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

North Korea's state-owned carrier Air Koryo has launched weekly flights to Malaysia.

Malaysia Airports said Tuesday that Air Koryo has operated charter flights direct from Pyongyang to Kuala Lumpur in the past few years and now has sufficient market strength to start twice weekly flights.

It flew in 70 passengers from Pyongyang on its inaugural flight Monday. This takes the number of airlines operating at Malaysia's main international airport to 58, the statement said.

Air Koryo also flies to Thailand, China, Russia, Switzerland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, according to its website. Its operations are restricted due to its aging planes.

It has bought two Russian-made Tupolev TU-204 jetliners, allowing it to operate charter flights since last year to selected European destinations.

seem like only PEN will simply put cargo pellets..=.= it is quite messy.

SEOUL: North Korea said on Tuesday it will open an air route with Malaysia next week as the isolated communist country seeks to attract more foreign tourists.

The route for chartered planes between Pyongyang and Kuala Lumpur will open next Friday for Malaysian tourists, the North's official Korean Central News Agency said.

"Many tourists have come to (North Korea) by chartered planes," it said, adding that Pyongyang opened air routes with the eastern Chinese city of Shanghai on July 1 and the ancient city of Xian on July 28.

Tourists from Shanghai have been allowed to tour the North's scenic spots and monuments without a visa, KCNA said.

The move comes amid a festering dispute with South Korea over a jointly-run mountain resort in the North.

The Mount Kumgang resort, which opened in 1998 as a symbol of reconciliation between the two Koreas, once earned the impoverished North tens of millions of dollars a year.

But Seoul suspended tours for its citizens after a North Korean soldier shot dead a South Korean tourist at Mount Kumgang in July 2008. Pyongyang reacted by saying it would dispose of South Korean-owned assets at the resort.

The South's Yonhap news agency also reported Tuesday that Air Koryo, the North's flagship airline, had added flights to its regular service between Pyongyang and the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang.

It quoted an unnamed aid group official as saying he spotted many Chinese and other foreigners at his hotel during a trip to Pyongyang last week.

"It appears that the number of flights between Shenyang and Pyongyang was increased because of the Arirang Festival, which started on August 1," the official was quoted as saying.

The annual festival began in 2002 and usually involves tens of thousands of people, including children, performing synchronised acrobatics, dances and flip-card displays of politicised messages.

I have been to North Korea in September 2003 and strongly recommend anyone who is interested to go and see this amazing destination for yourself, not even to mention the excitement of flying onboard Air Koryo.

I flew from Beijing to Pyongyang and back on the IL-62 (P-881) of Air Koryo and absolutely loved it. The high-pitch whine of its engines sound absolutely Russian and great! Due to the low utilisation of the fleet, the aircraft are in tip-top condition and are extremely clean.

As a destination for a holiday, there is no equal. I love those gigantic socialist propaganda posters ... and the super over-sized monuments. Across the country, there are super-highways ... but very few cars. One thing for sure, it is an extremely clean country as nothing that can be re-used and recycled is thrown away. Food was excellent and I believe this is perhaps even more authentic than most of the Korean food we see in modern eateries.

If you have any interest, do so before anything changes ... I get the impression that the nation is at the very doorstep of imminent change. And there is a company - Juche Travel Services - that has organised aviation tours!!! Check them out at www.juchetravelservices.com and they also have a facebook presence.

Are Malaysians able to travel to North Korea without a visa? I read somewhere that NK had given Malaysian visa free access?

I had a look at travelling to NK and those travel agents charge a crazy amount of money for their service.

A couple of years back there was a charter tour to Pyongyang during CNY although I think later was canceled. Somebody spotted an Air Koryo in penang around the same time.

During MATTA Fair here last month, saw there was just one tour company offering package to Pyongyang

Yes you're right, very very pricey, like rm6k+, in the range of the more deluxe Japanese packages we get here in KK (though I can't remember the duration of the tour for proper comparison)

Prices for South Korea packages was about half that (roughly) :)

But KC Sim is spot on about seeing the place before it changes (if one can afford it !) :)
