Moscow Domodedovo explosion kills at least 24: East Line

Recommended Posts

Moscow's Domodedovo airport has been closed to international flights following an explosion which has claimed at least 24 lives.

Domodedovo operator East Line Group says in a statement that the explosion occurred at 16:32 local time in the international arrivals hall, "where people who are not passengers have free access".

East Line puts the preliminary number of fatalities at 24, with 30 injuries. "Victims are being treated on-site or sent to hospitals in the city," it adds.

NOTAM information states that the airport is closed to international arrivals and it is estimated that it will remain closed until 20:00.

East Line said in October 2004 that it would invest $20 million in new security equipment and tighten security procedures, following fatal bomb attacks on two internal Russian flights which had departed the airport in August of that year.

Goodness me , I would've never imagined this would happen in our day and age where security is priority in airports .

Innocent lives , some probably even just tourists on vacation , meet their end so unnecessarily

Such acts are cowardly and cannot be justified by any cause or reason. All those people who are brutally murdered and injured ... along with others who are traumatised or inconvenience are mere bystanders who should not be shouldering the burden of any political or other cause.

Let's treasure peace and not take it for granted ... and resolve to never resort to violence.

Doesn't apply to ppl who are desperate enough ... unfortunately. So nip at the bud, do not let anybody reach this state.

Guess there isn't much security screening to reach the arrival hall..

To those who unfortunately perished, RIP.

We will now see another round of ridiculously inconvenient measures imposed on passengers at airports soon. This will make air travel even more unappealing and frustrating. Politicians have a lot to answer for...

Never saw it that way , but yeah , going to be a whole lot of crazy screening to add on to what we've had before

Scarey! Does this mean airports will now have to start considering screening for anybody who even wants to enter the airport and not just to catch a flight?! :(

Probably. This is already the case with most Indonesian & Indian airports. There is a security screening just to enter the airport building/ check in area.
