Tan Son Nhat - Sai Gon airport pictures

Recommended Posts

My 2nd and final spotting-day was on the 16th of December 2007, again from the same roof-terrace :pardon:

Here are the aircraft which passed my lens during the afternoon (till sunset):

MH operating the 734 9M-MQA from KUL (was this you, captain Radzi ?):

9M-MQA-SGN16dec2007.jpg

While SQ came in from SIN with a 772 9V-SVM (or you LeeCH ?) :p :

9V-SVM-SGN16dec2007.jpg

Another flight from SIN, this time a LCC in silver Jetstar colours and registration 9V-JSB:

9V-JSB-SGN16dec2007.jpg

Was hoping for a 'special colour' A330 from Taiwan, however this B-18316 turned-up:

B-18316-SGN16dec2007.jpg

KL used to fly to SGN but stopped in favour of AF, seen here arriving from CDG and BKK with F-GITJ:

F-GITJ-SGN16dec2007.jpg

Surprise visitor, at least for me, was this GlobalExpress N287Z:

N287Z-SGN16dec2007.jpg

Pacific Airlines, in which QF has 'a big finger' was seen operating this bland VN-A189, a 734:

VN-A189-SGN16dec2007.jpg

Also a regular to KLIA, I guess, is this VN-A344 :pardon:

VN-A344-SGN16dec2007.jpg

Or.......are the A320's more regular, like this VN-A307 ?:

VN-A307-SGN16dec2007.jpg

This VN A321, VN-A353 is winking me good-bye (nice reflection on the engine-cowling):

And with this nice sunset shot over Tan Son Nhat airport, I would like to say: "Thanks for the nice time in Viet Nam"

Hi Truie,

I am going to SGN on Tue and Wed this week, I am not sure if I have time to manage some shots, the most possible day for spotting will be on Wed.

In this case I would like to have some guides from you, so that I can go around for spotting in time available.

Thanks so much.

Hi Mai... simplest way is to upload the movie to Youtube or photobucket and share the link with us...

I'm afraid MW doesn't have the facility yet to host a movie straight away

apart from upload the file & everybody has to download it... :pardon:

Easiest way would be to go to Ukraine (visa-free for EU nationals) and try some domestic flights, same for YAK42's :pardon:

Truie Pham,

Several spotters from WA are planning to visit Vietnam in January and would like to know best spotting & photography locations around the airport.

Mainly interested in old wrecks , russian propliners, exotic and interesting aircraft. Any museums with aircraft in them would be a bonus.

Pacific Airlines has been renamed now into Jetstarpacific (sorry for the greenish colour, due to the Terminal windows):

Hongkong Airlines used to fly into Tan Son Nhat airport too, but have ceased all operations into SGN now for an indefinite time (CX will be glad):

Wah... I never even realised there was a thread about Tan Son Nhat! Well, here is my contribution!

Old Terminal

100_7691.jpg

Before the present international was used, this was how the old one looked like. People, people, more people everywhere!

100_7690.jpg

As I was saying...

100_8113.jpg

Arrivals and departures used to share the same kerb so you can imagine the jam!

100_8111.jpg

Seriously, no joke, it was stuffy as hell.

100_8105.jpg

More of the old international terminal...

Airside.

100_8129.jpg

Photography is almost impossible from airside while you are waiting to board.

Tarmac action!

100_7687.jpg

CAL is a very frequent visitor to SGN!

100_7686.jpg

HKG is just a short hop away!

100_7685.jpg

SQ uses the Space Bed equipped 772 on flights to SGN.

100_8141.jpg

Taxiing out for departure...

100_8143.jpg

Passing by the new international terminal which was still under construction then in Feb 2007.

Stay tuned for more of my SGN contribution!!!

Cheers

Ryan

New terminal

The new terminal opened in Septemeber 2007 and it could not have come at a better time. Ho Chi Minh City has experienced phenomenal visitor arrival growth in the last decade and it is on a yearly rise. Not surprisingly they are the fastest growing economy in SE Asia.

Driveway

A peek at the old terminal next door. Now only used for domestic flights only.

100_9820.jpg

Queue formers...

100_9811.jpg

New FIDs

100_9810.jpg

Check in area. Restricted access only, entry via security and proof of travel.

100_9822.jpg

Pass immigration into airside.

100_9825.jpg

Airside upper levels where several restaurants are located.

100_9823.jpg

Departure concourse leading to gates.

100_9836.jpg

Gate information display.

100_9837.jpg

Individual departure holding lounges on the lower levels.

Tarmac Action!

TAIWAN - Other than CAL, EVA is represented by their subsidiary UNI Air.

100_9840.jpg

100 Years of National AWAKENING!!!! GA arrives bright and right into SGN via SIN.

100_9816.jpg

Perhaps anyone can shed light about their existence?

100_9850.jpg

Bad lighting... But you get the idea of how the tarmac looks like around the new terminal.

100_9861-1.jpg

From the air, the new terminal is built immediately next to the old one on the extreme right.

Great shots, Ryan !!! :drinks:

New Terminal looks so familiar to me now :pardon:

I really do like this Terminal because of it's airiness and cleanliness :good:

BR now operates with own equipment: saw some 773's recently !

The BBJ looks like a VP-B registration to me; the 722, however, is UN-registered ? That would make it Kazakhstanian...maybe you can enlarge for us, and advise the correct registration so we can investigate ?

Cheers for sharing :yahoo:

Last time when I was in SGN, the crowd outside the arrival hall really shocked me!! That was not any special day, just a weekday. But I faced the crowd which is seldom to meet even in China.

Anyone can tell, why people there stay there? For business? or for "chance"?

Family ties are very strong in VN, so when someone arrives from abroad, most family-members (bro's, sis's, nieces and nephews) will be there to greet the arriving relatives; same thing in the Philippines (MNL to name an airport with similar masses)

OMG! that looks really nice! the big 'Jetstar.com' wordings look just like the JQ 330/321's liverly! 3K and JQ should repaint their A320s like that too!
