Airline becomes launch operator for A320neo with CFM engines
21 JULY 2016 PRESS RELEASE
Pegasus Airlines, Turkey’s leading low-cost airline, took delivery on Tuesday July 19th, its first Airbus A320neo powered by CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines, becoming the first airline to do so for the type. Pegasus placed the largest single order by a Turkish carrier for up to 100 A320neo Family aircraft in 2012, making it a new Airbus customer. Pegasus Airlines along with Airbus and CFM top management and employees celebrated the delivery in a private ceremony at Airbus’ site in Hamburg.
“This delivery marks the start of Pegasus’ fleet renewal with the most fuel efficient aircraft incorporating the latest technologies, aerodynamics, engines and a comfortable cabin,” said Mehmet Nane, CEO of Pegasus Airlines. “We have an ambitious expansion strategy and the A320neo will be the backbone of this.”
“We are delighted to be delivering our first CFM powered A320neo to Pegasus Airlines.” said Fabrice Brégier, Airbus President and CEO. “It fills us with pride that Pegasus Airlines has selected the A320neo Family to achieve its impressive growth plans. We are sure the aircraft will deliver on their expectations.”
"Today, Pegasus, Airbus and CFM are making history. Introducing a new engine family in commercial service happens almost once in a lifetime. It's a big deal, so we are very proud to do it with our long-term customer, Pegasus, and with Airbus,” said CFM International CEO Jean-Paul Ebanga.
The A320neo Family is the world’s best-selling and most fuel efficient single aisle aircraft Family. The A320neo powering with the CFM International’s LEAP-1A provides operators with double digits improvements in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions - with a 15 percent reduction upon entry into service and up to a 20% reduction by 2020.
The A320neo Family incorporates the very latest technologies including new generation engines and Sharklet wing tip devices. With over 4,500 orders received from 83 customers since its launch in 2010, the A320neo Family has captured some 60 percent share of the market. The Airbus’ A320neo Family offers thanks to their widest cabin unmatched comfort in all classes and Airbus’ 18-inch wide seats in economy as standard.

India's IndiGo might delay taking delivery of some Airbus A320neo planes

Aug 1 Indian budget airline IndiGo might have to delay taking delivery of more Airbus A320neo planes to allow Pratt & Whitney time to sort out engine problems, the carrier's owner said on Monday.
IndiGo, owned by InterGlobe Aviation, has ordered 430 A320neo narrow-body aircraft in total, making it one of Airbus's largest customers.
InterGlobe President Aditya Ghosh said IndiGo still expects to have a total of 24 A320neo planes in its fleet by the end of this fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, if there are no delays in taking delivery due to engine problems.
"Pratt & Whitney and Airbus both are trying very hard to fix the issues. Right now we just want them to focus on that and meet those timelines they have given us," Ghosh told a call with analysts.
Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies Corp, has encountered problems with slow engine startup times and erroneous engine software messages in the new engine, already causing a delay in the delivery of planes to customers.
IndiGo, India's largest airline, received its first A320neo in March after a three-month delay and has taken delivery of another four since then.

PEGASUS AIRLINES ENJOYS SMOOTH ENTRY INTO SERVICE WITH LEAP-1A
  • Airline has introduced four aircraft to date
  • Fleet is averaging 10 cycles per day
WEST CHESTER, Ohio — 27 September 2016 — On August 2, Turkey’s Pegasus Airlines became the first airline to operate CFM International’s advanced LEAP-1A engine, powering an Airbus A320neo on flights between Istanbul and Antalya. The airline, which has ordered a total of 200 LEAP-1A engines to power A320neo aircraft, has completed more than 1,700 engine flight cycles to date.
“We are absolutely delighted with the operation of this engine. There has not been a single glitch,” said Mehmet Nane, CEO of Pegasus Airlines. “From day one, we have been able to operate our new A320neos the same as the other aircraft in our fleet. Most days, we are doing 10 or 11 flights per day. The reliability of the engine is helping to keep us on schedule, allowing us to maintain 30-minute turn times at the gate. Having full use of these assets has given us the flexibility we need to support our daily operations.”
“We are so pleased that Pegasus has enjoyed such a seamless introduction of the LEAP engine into its fleet,” said Jean-Paul Ebanga, president and CEO of CFM International. “It is exciting to see all of the hard work and planning the Pegasus and CFM teams did together yield such an outstanding result. I congratulate them all on a job very well done.”
The LEAP-1A is providing double-digit improvements in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to today’s best CFM engine, along with dramatic reductions in engine noise and exhaust gaseous emissions. All this technology is focused on providing better utilization, including CFM’s legendary reliability out of the box; greater asset availability; enhanced time on wing margins to help keep maintenance costs low; and minimized maintenance actions, all supported by sophisticated analytics that enable CFM to provide tailored, predictive maintenance over the life of the product.
About CFM International
LEAP-1A engines are a product of CFM International, a 50/50 joint company between GE and Safran Aircraft Engines and the world’s leading supplier of commercial aircraft engines. To date, the company has garnered orders and commitments for more than 11,500 LEAP engines, making it the fastest-selling engine in aviation history. Pratt's turbofan engine saving on fuel

Pratt & Whitney's PurePower geared turbofan engine has entered passenger service with Spirit Airlines, which debuted its first Airbus A320neo flight from Detroit to Los Angeles on Oct. 16.
Spirit Airlines calculated that on that 2,000 mile flight, the new aircraft saved about 422 gallons of fuel compared with the previous model. Performance on other aircraft also confirms that the engine reduces fuel burn by 16 percent, lowers emissions by 50 percent and reduces the noise footprint by 75 percent.

Qatar Airways wants to swap Airbus A320neos for A321neos, new delivery date

Qatar Airways is in talks with Airbus (AIR.PA) to convert its order for up to 80 A320neos to the larger A321neo, its chief executive said on Monday.
The Middle East airline has refused to accept four A320neos so far this year over claims of performance issues with the aircraft's engines, a spokeswoman told Reuters.
"We are in negotiations with Airbus about how we can continue our relationship and keep our order on track minus the ones that we canceled," CEO Akbar al-Baker told Reuters on the sidelines of a press conference in Doha.
He said the airline wanted to take delivery of the larger A321neo jets from 2018 and was considering swapping the engine order to CFM, a joint venture between General Electric Co (GE.N) and Safran SA (SAF.PA) of France.
Qatar Airways has refused to accept planes with engines made by Pratt & Whitney, a unit of United Technologies Corp (UTX.N), saying they required additional time to start under certain conditions.

I think it is very smart of ANA to fit 3 Lavatories at the back...2 full sized ones and 1 narrower behind the crew jump seat...

Previously on CI 738...even with 3...sometimes a queue forms from all the passengers waiting to use the toilet...

The ANA A320neo's are in their "international configuration" - meaning that these are for their longer international flights. It is equipped for comfort and tickets will definitely not be cheap!

Where will ANA deploy their -neos? IMO, the -neos can provide ANA opportunities to go for more secondary cities within range of this aircraft type as similar to how the 787s opens up more direct flights to secondary US cities.

The Doha-based carrier has refused to take delivery of A320neos since December 2015 over performance issues with the aircraft's engines.
"We are going to take all A321s, there will be no more A320s," Chief Executive Akbar al-Baker told reporters in Doha.
