If Merapi's ash reaches Jakarta, that'd be disastrous.

MAS Flights To Bandung Rerouted To Jakarta

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flights from Kuala Lumpur to Bandung and vice-versa will be rerouted to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta due to the Mount Merapi eruptions which fill the Bandung with ash cloud.

Passengers originally bound for Bandung from Kuala Lumpur will be redirected to Jakarta and shuttled to Bandung via bus. Similarly, those departing from Bandung will be shuttled to Jakarta via bus.

It said that the next flights from Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta (MH725) were scheduled to depart at 6.05pm and arrive at 7.05pm and Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur (MH724) at 8.05pm, arriving at 11.05pm.

The airlines would be monitoring the situation closely and would keep passengers updated, he said.

Passengers were also advised to check the flight status at www.malaysiaairlines.com before proceeding to the airport.

They can also call the MAS call center at 1300-88-3000 (within Malaysia), 03-78433000 (outside Malaysia) or MAS ticketing offices for the latest schedules.

Volcanic ash disrupts MAS flights to Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta

KUALA LUMPUR: Due to the severity of volcanic ash surrounding Bandung and Yogyakarta, Malaysia Airlines flights to Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta have either been cancelled or delayed until the situation improves.

MAS in a statement said flights connecting Kuala Lumpur to Jakarta on Saturday and early Sunday have been cancelled.

The flights that have been cancelled are the Kuala Lumpur – Jakarta (MH723, MH725, MH727) scheduled to depart Saturday, Jakarta – Kuala Lumpur (MH722, MH724) scheduled to depart Saturday and Jakarta – Kuala Lumpur (MH726) scheduled to depart Sunday.

Flights that would be delayed until further notice are Kuala Lumpur – Yogyakarta (MH857), Yogyakarta – Kuala Lumpur (MH856), Kuala Lumpur – Bandung (MH859) and Bandung – Kuala Lumpur (MH858). Malaysia Airlines director of operations, Captain Azharuddin Osman said, the volcanic ash presence in the airways surrounding Jakarta could cause severe damage to aircraft and engines which could impair the safety of operations including passengers and crew.

“We will only be able to confirm the flight schedules once the situation has improved and clearance from the relevant civil aviation authorities has been received. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the situation closely,” he added. Passengers on the affected flights have 3 options can either seek a full refund depending on the terms and conditions of their tickets or exchange their tickets to fly to Surabaya. However, ground arrangements will not be covered.

They also another option of rebooking on the next available flights.

As the situation remains volatile, passengers have been advised to check the flight status at www.malaysiaairlines.com before proceeding to the airport.

Alternatively, passengers can also call the MAS Call Centre 1300-88-3000 (within Malaysia), +603-7843 3000 (outside Malaysia) or its ticketing offices for the latest schedules.

Went thru all the problem..and glad to be back.. MH sms-ed on Saturday night to inform that my Sunday evening CGK-KUL,MH 724 flight was cancelled. Unable to get thru any MH office for further info.

Found out from news that almost all foreign airliners cancelled landing in CGK on Saturday, but all local airlines still flying! Gave up calling MH, and fearing worst (ie ala European airport closure for 2 weeks), emergency booked CGK-MES (Garuda) and MES-KUL (Airasia) for Sunday.

However when reached airport on Sunday morning, found out that MH (and the other foreign airlines) had reinstated most flights... thus was able to get back on earlier MH720 flight (Airbus 330). Flight was delayed one hour to 4.40pm, pilot said due to closure of SIN airspace when plane departed for CGK, which I do not understand (anyone can explain?)

Credit to MH - despite some expected chaos during check-in, ground staff settled passengers pretty well. And - IFE, headsets given during short flight, including duty free sale.

Burnt Airasia ticket and able to get back less than 50% of Garuda fare.. Whuhuhu :(.........
