It seems that Dragonair is adding one more Saturday evening flight between HKG and BKI starting at the end of October, making two KA-operated evening flights on Saturday. The current Saturday evening flight is quite a new one. It was introduced just back in July this year and the reservation system is showing the new Saturday evening flights (KA68 & KA69) to depart and arrive exactly the same time as the existing Saturday evening flights (KA63 & KA64).

So where does BKI fit in ?! :)

..... the reservation system is showing the new Saturday evening flights (KA68 & KA69) to depart and arrive exactly the same time as the existing Saturday evening flights (KA63 & KA64).

I would have thought the easier option to increase available capacity would be to deploy the 333 instead ? :D

I suppose they don't have any idle 333 available for Saturday evening... Of course it is just my assumption lah :D

If this new flight does take off, well, the new Saturday evening flight is already bookable as we speak, it means KA will be using 4 different flight codes for their flights from HKG to BKI every week.

KA60 - .2.4..7 (afternoon flight back to HKG, perfect for passengers going to China/Korea/some flights to US & Canada)

KA62 - 1...5.. (evening flight, perfect for passengers going to Europe, Japan, Korea/some flights to US & Canada/Australia & NZ)

KA64 - .....6. (evening flight, perfect for passengers going to Europe, Japan, Korea/some flights to US & Canada/Australia & NZ)

**KA68 - .....6. (evening flight, perfect for passengers going to Europe, Japan, Korea/some flights to US & Canada/Australia & NZ)

Sounds very odd to me, could this be just a change of flight number and their system just hasn't been updated to reflect this?!

IR no traffic rights (BKK-KUL)? :( would have loved to try them. Probably a matter of time later I think.

Yes, usually that's the case. I recalled it happened to Egypt Air at the beginning of their service. After sometimes, the airline will be allowed to utilise the 5th freedom rights.

Not sure. It's been a few days and currently the new flights, KA68/KA69 are still bookable. Anyway, we'll find out very soon as next month is October already :)

On a different note, Asiana Airlines is adding two additional weekly flights between ICN/BKI starting September 9, 2012 until October 28, 2012, bringing the total weekly flight from four to six weekly. Awesome! They should start to actively offering some deeply discounted fares to Japan, China and Americas again. They have not had a promotion for almost two years already. United Airlines is code-sharing on this ICN/BKI route, by the way.

You just have to wonder whether those people at MH who made decision to scrap connectivity at BKI, would actually spare a thought or two if it was the wrong decision made ?

So much traffic that had been painstakingly built up over years of expensive efforts, now the slack being taken up by foreign carriers (BI, KA, KE, OZ ..... etc, and soon CZ) ..... and AK of course :)

Sooner they (meaning the decision makers at MH) realize there are alternatives nowadays to get from point A to point B other than being forced to pay a king's ransom travelling via their fabled KUL hub, well, the sooner they may realize there can be (more) money to be made from BKI. Nope, the industry can and will find alternatives. And indications are there that the downstream industries (eg travel agents, tour operators, hospitality providers etc), in Sabah at least, have been so pi.....ed off by that sudden decision to drop routes from BKI by MH, it will take some super effort to try woo back their business in future, if MH ever decide to go back down that way that is. And serve them right too :D

Spot on mate! One can't count on MAS. If they really have to shut down a route based on load and yield, I'm afraid they might have to shut down the airline completely.

Anyway, in a way, we're so blessed that foreign carriers such as KA, OZ, MI etc. have not given up on BKI. If what MAS said is to be believe, about there simply is no demand for flights to North Asia from BKI, then airlines such as OZ, ZE and KE must be some saint. OZ especially, since they will be flying to BKI 6x times a week starting next week ultilizing an A321-200 :D

I would not place much credibility on what is said by an airline (well, management of anyway) that has published publicly so many restructuring/realignment/turnarounds/rehabilitation/bail-outs over her short history and yet still be bleeding red ink at will like some die-hard blood donor :)

Furthermore, those foreign entities quoted will drop BKI in a heartbeat if there isn't money to be made. Case in point, KE's recent intention, before MH magninamous withdrawal from BKI-ICN

To borrow a quote from Captain Nik, those MH people seem "clueless" on where and how to make money :)

the airline i would like to see operate into KL is SWISS .

we need a direct flight to Zurich ( wouldnt mind Geneva too )

All LX aircraft have a huge First/Business Class section and the yield is probably not there. If they want to resume flight to a city in SE, SIN would be the one.

I suppose Hallyu plays a major role in the huge surge of demand for travels between these two countries ? :p

KLM Matta fair promotion to Europe is attractive too but with limited date on departure/return.

If you don't mind layover (believe hotel is provided) at CMB, for MH regular cattle class fare, you could travel to LHR in J class with UL.

You were right. The Saturday evening flight from HKG to BKI will be renumbered from KA65 to KA69 effective from early November. Flight time has also changed. The new departure time from HKG is 1555 instead of 1640. The return flight will also be renumbered from KA64 to KA68 and the new departure time from BKI is 2050 instead of the current 2045. This means a turnaround time of 1 hour 50 minutes at BKI.

Anyway, besides the OZ flight frequency increase from 4x weekly to 6x weekly starting next week until the end of October which is already confirmed, MI apparently will also introduce 3 more weekly flights between SIN/BKI, bringing the total weekly flights from 7x to 10x weekly starting at the end of October. With 3x weekly evening flights from BKI instead of the current 1x weekly which departs every Tuesdays, this will reduce the transit time at SIN for connecting flights to Europe.

Thanks for the leads Waiping & Lou Lee

Our search criteria this time somewhat complicated by need to have a couple of one-way tickets included

Find that these MATTA deals are more for return deals - the one-way's are normally much more than the 'logical' 50% of return fare

:D

The UL via CMB option sounds like an adventure by itself, but cannot imagine doing it for this upcoming trip :)
