korean Air's low cost carrier JIN AIR launches flights to Kota Kinabalu.

Jin Air Starts Kota Kinabalu & Sanya Service Jan/Feb 2012

Update at 0920GMT 19JAN12

Jin Air earlier this month (Jan 2012) has started 2 additional International routes, with 2 weekly service each to Kota Kinabalu and Sanya, on board Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Schedule:

Seoul Incheon – Kota Kinabalu 18JAN12 – 03MAR12

LJ707 ICN1805 – 2220BKI 738 36

LJ708 BKI2345 – 0540+1ICN 738 36

It's ironic that MH is withdrawing from BKI-ICN (stating they're loosing money on this sector) while the Korean carriers are proving otherwise. I think Jin Air is the 3rd or 4th carrier plying this route. Anyone knows if Eastar Jet is still serving BKI?

The MH PR spinners will of course have their say and justifications in matter, but it's a bit embarassing when foreigners come filling up void left by our retreating (flacid) flag carrier :(

All said, hopefully, JL or NH will fill up the Japanese void whilst QF or JQ will take up the Aussie challenge from BKI

Silver lining in the dark clouds perhaps ? :D

No news of Eastar stopping the BKI service but booking on Eastar has been difficult for people from this part of the world. With KE and OZ also operating the BKI - Seoul flight why AK not starting this line also? Eastar is using the LCC here by the way.

I've said this so many times both in here and A.net since the news about the suspension of the MAS BKI/ICN flight was first reported but many found it hard to believe the O&D traffic between BKI and ICN is huge :pardon:

Anyway, Jin Air is the low-cost no-frills arm of KE. I guess this means no chance of KE increasing their flight to BKI anytime soon :(

Jin Air would be the 4th Korean carrier flying between BKI/ICN. The other three are:

- Asiana Airlines, 4x weekly

- Korean Air, 2x weekly

- Eastar Jet, 4x weekly (BKI LCCT)

I think it's impossible to book a flight on Eastar Jet right ? No travel agency seems to be selling their ticket here in KK. Their airport ground service is handled by Cebu Pacific but they also don't know how or where to book Eastar Jet ticket to ICN.

Yup, I've been asking around before but no one seems to know how to book on Eastar - travel agents, other Korean carrier staff etc.

Perhaps Eastar is operating on 'scheduled charter' basis into BKI and there is this silly rule about foreign carriers not being allowed to fly Malaysians out on charters ? :unknw:

But OZ started their service to BKI on scheduled charter basis too and they did openly selling ticket to the public via travel agency. Not sure if the OZ flight is now operating on a scheduled charter basis or just a regular scheduled flight now. I noticed that UA is code-sharing on this OZ's BKI/ICN flight.

If I remember correctly, they enforced the 'silly rule' sometime last year - that is why you don't see much of the Chinese charters over holiday periods anymore

MANILA, Philippines – South East Asian Airlines (SEAIR) announced Tuesday its low airfares for flights to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia and Kalibo, Aklan.

SEAIR announced that its one-way fare to Kota Kinabalu is now priced at P999 while one-way fare to Kalibo is priced at P849 for travel between May 1 to December 31, 2012.

The special introductory prices are offered until February 9, 2012.

SEAIR also announced that starting May 1, the airline will start flying Clark – Kota Kinabalu at 15:00 – 17:00 and Kota Kinabalu – Clark at 17:30 – 19:30 every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Starting May 4, SEAIR will fly to Clark – Kalibo at 12:15 – 13:30 and Kalibo – Clark at 14:00 – 15:15 every Friday and Sunday.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, which is composed of 5 islands, is found in Kota Kinabalu.

Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah, is a popular jump-off point to Borneo Island and Sabah.

Kalibo, on the other hand, is a major gateway to Boracay Island.

Boracay is ranked 4th in the list of Top 10 Islands by Travel and Leisure Magazine.

Passengers can log on to www.FlySeair.com and www.tigerairways.com to book seats.

This is a great news for KKIA, and i think very soon KCH, PEN, KUL or maybe even LGK will be SEAir next destinations this year.

Malaysian Authorities put a rule that Chinese carriers cannot pick up Malaysian pax on Charter Flights. China retaliated by enforcing the same on Malaysian carriers. Both countries lose. But Malaysia lose more because we need Chinese money more than China need Malaysian money.

Those screens have been displaying Eastar Jet logo for many months already. May be a sign that they will eventually move to the main terminal.

Captain Nik,

Were in the know about this then ? :)

Can't help but speculate upon some little Napoleon throwing spanner into cog wheel (mind you, could be Malaysian, could be Chinese Napoleon !)

Fact that the chinese slots were snapped up during course of the hiccup goes a long way towards proving right your observation that we Malaysians need the Chinese RMB more than the Chinese need our RM somehow !!

Also read that Garuda has started 3rd daily flight on CGK-KUL route.

Later this year, it would start flying Medan-Penang

Yeap Garuda have already started 3rd daily. We can also expect Garuda Citilink, Sriwijaya and Maybe Mandala to start ops to KUL within this year or a years period. Sriwijaya are very keen to start it this year.
