Chaity 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2010 Did the Oman Air receive any water canon salute for its inaugural landing in KUL? I would guess Oman Air got the water canon salute for its inaugural flight. Since her inaugural flight was on 1st May at 2115, not many or no local spotters to welcome her.

S M Tang 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2010 (edited) Any reason why the LH 744 was smokier than the rest? Heavier? New rubber? Where can I get shots like that on RWY 14L and what gears do I need? Is a 70-300 enough? Edited May 6, 2010 by SherM
Sri Ramani K. 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2010 just to note, saw a southern air 747F today. she had decals saying that she's operating on behalf of MASKargo. believe it's a wet-lease, and couldn't identify the rego either, but why southern air?
MIR 2 Report post Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) just to note, saw a southern air 747F today. she had decals saying that she's operating on behalf of MASKargo. believe it's a wet-lease, and couldn't identify the rego either, but why southern air? One of them is N789SA, Boeing B743F. 4 days ago,it was in all white c/s operating MH6201 to Sydney. MALAYSIA Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASkargo) is exploring the viability of freighter flights into the US via China, with its newly signed US-based wet lease operator. The new agreement is with US-based Southern Air for four classic freighters. The new wet lease replaces a wet-lease contract for two 747-400F freighters and three 747 classic freighters provided by Air Atlanta Icelandic, which expires at the end of this month(April). Nguyen Vu Loc 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2010 Specially for our Vietnam Mwingers VN-A354 Thanks, Liew. Very nice shots incl. the above one which was called in our air force slang "dog pissing position" when landing with strong crosswind. I surely miss this location. Nguyen Vu Loc 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2010 Any reason why the LH 744 was smokier than the rest? Heavier? New rubber? IMO, this is a normal (landing) practice of B744 LH's pilots as I've a lot of LH smoky landing shots at VVTS (SGN) even with calm wind. The reason is to ensure that spoilers will automatically deploy and to activate the auto-brake. I think it is a lesson learnt from AF's incident when the aircraft touched down so smooth that there is not enough pressure force on the main gear to actuate the auto-brake sensors.
