Help to indentify the airport and a few vintage birds

Recommended Posts

Dug my grandma's album and found these photos, soon will become part of my collection. Need help to identify the airport, any clues? Unfortunately no sign on the date when these pictures were taken. I believe maybe late sixties or early seventies. Enjoy.

Airport looks like Sungei Besi.

The two Japan Airlines DC-8 are parked in very typical Subang Airport parking positions.

Not so sure about the BOAC Comet 4 - suspiciously like Sg Besi too - the high mountains in the backgroud are not a feature of Subang. Interesting to see the tail of the Thai Caravelle too!

Some info on 9V-BCV:

agreed with Flee, that the MSA F27 & JAL DC-8 was taken in Subang

#1 is Sg Besi Airport

not sure about the rest... Could be Sg Besi too

I remember that my father took a photo

of a BOAC Comet in Sg Besi, and a Qantas Connie...

been looking for that photos ...

I see a Peugeot 403 in the first pic!

Pictures at Sg Besi airport could only be early or before 1965 as Subang Airport became operational that year.

As mention by Walter Sim BOAC is the airline, the manufacturer of Comet would be 'de Havilland'.

Forgot to mention the TG Caravelle next to the Comet 4!

I remember the Caravelle because that was my first Airfix 1/144 scale model I put together. Also did a BEA Trident. I guess I was fascinated with rear engined planes in the late 60's... :)

Looking at it now, it would seem that the 787's nose profile is rather similar to the Comet's. :)

Well if you are under 30 years old, you might not be aware that BOAC and BEA (British European Airways) merged to form British Airways!

Well said Flee; British Airways is the result of the merging of BOAC and BEA. BA Callsign 'Speedbird' was formerly used as BOAC callsign.

The JAL aircraft is a Douglas DC-8-61, to be precise: flew one between MNL and BKK about 30 years ago :pardon:

and this is what I found about G-APDL:

Did you guys know, the Comet and Caravelle cockpits are exactly the same ?
