KLIA Aerotrain Breakdown

Perhaps in the UK, their preventative maintenance is meticulous and include such items as anti rust protection for their chassis - in the mid-1970s London Underground were still operating old trains going back to WW2 days!

 

MAHB may just be practising what many lorry transport companies do - no maintenance until vehicle breaks down! Then it is major maintenance and repair work! ;)

It seems they are looking into upgrading the aerotrains among other improvement projects

 

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31 (Bernama) -- A slew of improvement initiatives are being executed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) this year to cater to increasing growth in passenger traffic movement, said Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd today.


The initiatives are expected to improve KLIA's global rankings and enhance service levels as a whole for an important stakeholder - airport users.

Managing Director, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said the airports operator had started the year by implementing immediate quick-wins that had gained positive feedback from the public and netizens, respectively.

It included working with the Immigration Department to open common counters during peak periods to reduce queuing time and enforcing strict measures to reduce traffic congestion at the pick-up and drop-off lanes.

"We will share our progress updates periodically on long-term projects such as the overhaul and upgrade of aerotrains, runway assessment and maintenance and expansion works at our other airports, so that the public are more informed of the developments," Badlisham said in a statement today.

Some London underground, British Rail rolling stocks were in operation for over 40 years. Temperature change in Europe from hot and dry summer to wet autumn and sub zero winter temperature stress mechanical parts more.

 

Thought mahb built a depot for aerotrain a few years ago? With depot, mahb could have a spare train set.

 

Maintenance schedule is not permanent, one could and should adjust to suit local condition, requirement and budget. With over 20 years operating experience and record; not that a budget is an issue with mahb, a discipline preventive maintenance could minimize unscheduled breakdown.

I dont think it is an apples to apples comparison just because both are called trains.

Somewhere in a parallel universe, malaysianrails.com, they are comparing maintenance between Embraer 170 and Airbus 380 since both are planes :)

I dont think it is an apples to apples comparison just because both are called trains.

 

Whether is E-170, A380, proton, toyota, bmw, mercedes or different train set; if the organization doesn't has discipline or follow schedule/program, trained personnel or budget, will still breakdown more often than desire.

 

If klia current aerotrain maintenance is expensive, it should be replaced otherwise could have one or even two standby train set.

Agree, but that was not the point of the two quotes.

 

(Im waiting for someone to next compare the klia aerotrain with the shinkansen ...)

it's all about maintenance and preventive maintenance. Many KLites should know how maintenance generally is in Bolehland. No point being in denial.

According to Wiki the train model is Bombardier Innovia APM-100, the same model used at a host of other airports. Would be interesting to know if they are still in use there, and the problems encountered.

At klia t1, there are 3 to 4 security personnels per security lane. The one at monitor would also check/search bag. Whenever there is a bag need to check manually, the security line is stopped and everyone is idling. It is no wonder, productivity is poor and efficiency is low.

Hmm? They're actually checking/scanning bags now after the baggage claim area?

To be fair, they never really were consistent for quite some time now, so they need to fine tune (or overhaul) their process if they want to start checking properly.

You were actually interpreting the previous posting wrongly. It was talking about international departures and screening at the gates. Bags refer to cabin luggage.
