KK Lee 5 Report post Posted February 21, 2010 When KUL/KLIA was constructed, NRT was the example given for locating KUL 70km from the city center. HND is now opened to international traffic and airline, as KUL is a foregone conclusion that unable to compete with SIN and BKK, may be SZB should be revitalize. Also, MH should substitute KUL/NRT with KUL/HND to attract more Japanese pax.
flee 5 Report post Posted February 21, 2010 (edited) Main problem with SZB is that the surrounding area is fully developed and any air terminal services must be built on existing land. Also, if there is an aircraft emergency or air crash around the vicinity of the airport, ground casualties would be quite severe! C.Foo 3 Report post Posted February 21, 2010 So Bne has industrial area all around it except the sea, I don't see the athourties complaining about mass killings if there was a crash. S V Choong 4 Report post Posted February 21, 2010 HND is now opened to international traffic and airline FWIK, it is only for a limited amount of international traffic with limited slots. The main international gateway remained at Narita. Prior to this small window of opening for international flights, Haneda has a handful of international traffic from near by Taiwan and Hong Kong. It will be very difficult for MH to get their hands on HND and that is where every airlines wanted to go. There will need to be bilateral agreement between governments which determine who gets the slots at Haneda. I suspect many cash loaded airlines and governments will get to it before MH and Malaysian government can offer anything.

If air crash is a serious threat to residents near airports, as RMAF is at WMKF and WMSA, what about collateral damage in the event of war?
Tony 1 Report post Posted February 22, 2010 If SZB desires more traffic, maybe AK and D7 can relocate to SZB.
KK Lee 5 Report post Posted March 27, 2010 SQ to increase SIN/HND frequency to double daily and MH is doing nothing!
Denny Yen 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 I don't think HND will be opened up to more int'l destinations because just domestic alone, it is over capacity and some domestic flights are served by NRT. Int'l flights to HND are very limited basis...these flights are not as frequent and their times change every month if compared to the regular flights. There're 2 types of int'l flights into HND...from Seoul (tourist charter flights, for e.g, tour agencies chartering the whole a/) and business charters (catering for businessmen going and coming back within 1 day, flying to cities located on China northern east-coast cities only) - normally available on weekdays only on a more expensive ticket price. The other type is Japanese govt (PM or emperor) and foreign dignitaries flights.
