MAS New 15 A330-300X + 4 A330-200 Freighter

Recommended Posts

Both classes will have less seat pitch...

Can't wait to try this aircraft this November  I never found 34" pitch on MH 777 to be exceptionally comfortable <_ maybe because i always sat on window seats.>

That's because the EY seats on MAS 772 are the older generation one featuring much thicker seatback. Besides, the EY seats between doors 2 and doors 3 only have 33" of seat pitch, not 34".

At least Australian passengers (from MEL, BNE, ADL and PER) will experience new aircraft, which can only be a good thing. Most reviews from Aussies are that the planes are old.

MH has serious challenges on the Aussie services as D7 has a serious market share. Many Aussies love D7 and look forward to their sales so that they can come over to SE Asia for their holidays. Many Aussies even wished that AirAsia opened up in Australia to run domestic flights! As such, MH really needs to upgrade its services so that it is at least on par with D7 in terms of aircraft age.

Seat pitch reduction on A33E J is immaterial.

wow, already start its commercial flight even before first touch its home soil. :good:

One (practical) beauty of cargo planes I suppose, it's definitely 'no frills' :D

Why the need for a water canon salute anyway ? What/who is there to be impressed ?!

Cargolux's B748F was supposed to stop at Sea-Tac after delivery to start delivering cargo. Imagine that!

MASKargo sees 25% growth

TOULOUSE: Malaysia Airlines Cargo Sdn Bhd (MASKargo) expects its revenue to grow by about RM200mil or 25% for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2012 (FY12).

“We have plans to grow by 25% in terms of revenue via new routes and higher capacity,” managing director Shahari Sulaiman said after taking delivery of MASKargo's first of its four A330-200F from Airbus on Thursday.

MASKargo is expected to receive its second A330-200F in November and another two aircraft next year.

Shahari said the growth would be contributed mainly by the new aircraft, which would enable it to operate more efficiently.

He explained that the new A330-200F, which had a maximum capacity of 70 tonnes, would make money if it was filled with 55 tonnes per flight. Its existing 747-400F, which has a capacity of 110 tonnes, would require at least 85 tonnes per flight to make money.

Shahari also said that MASKargo was “on target” to exceed RM2bil in revenue this year. It recorded revenue of RM2.4bil in financial year 2010.

On the possibility of MASKargo being listed, Shahari said this was not its main priority at the moment as it wanted to strengthen its order book and operations.

MASKargo intends to expand both its network and capacity with the new freighters. The four A330 freighters would complement its two 747-400F freighters in the current fleet, Shahari said.

“The airline industry experienced a 35% increase in fuel price over the last year, prompting us to cut the capacity on our leased 747-200F freighter network.

“The A330 freighters provide us with an opportunity to grow our capacity as we are able to serve more markets,” he said.

This also marks the first time that MASKargo is parking its new aircraft in its balance sheet.

Shahari said the new aircraft was just like any other investment that the company had made in the past in IT system, talents and ground-handling capacity.

“The A330-200F freighter has a book value of more than US$200mil each at 2011 price. Owning these planes strengthens our balance sheet and allows us to better manage our operating expenses.”

MASKargo is phasing out its leased 747-200F classic freighters by the year-end.

TOULOUSE (France), Sept 16 (Bernama) -- MASKargo Sdn Bhd, the air cargo subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, on Thursday took delivery of the first of four A330-200F freighters at the Airbus assembly point in Toulouse, France.

The freighter will depart Toulouse to Amsterdam first before beginning its first commercial flight to Kuala Lumpur on the same day.

MASKargo Managing Director Shahari Sulaiman said the second aircraft was scheduled for delivery in November while the third and fourth were due in January and April next year.

As a new generation freighter, he said the US$200 million A330-200F can carry up to 70 tonnes of payload with a range capacity of up to 4,000 nautical miles.

The A330s will also allow the company to explore new potential areas that could not be served by its existing B747s.

Shahari said the airline industry experienced high operating cost as a result of fuel prices spiralling some 35 per cent over the last year, necessitating MASkargo to cut capacity on its leased 747-200F freighter network.

"The A330 replaces the wet-lease that we have for the classic 747 aircraft. Those aircraft burn more fuel compared with the 747-400.

"So, when we look at next year's operations, we will have 747-400s, which are also very fuel efficient, and the A330 aircraft which will allow us to expand our network," he told Malaysian journalists at the handover ceremony of the maiden A330-200F freighter here.

Shahari added the mid-size A330-200F would be powered by the upgraded Pratt Whitney PW4170 engine which was the latest in eco-efficient engine technology for reduced carbon dioxide emission and noise levels.

The aircraft is scheduled to increase MASkargo's capacity into Narita, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Sharjah and Penang.

With this delivery, MASKargo can also move forward to expand its network to new destinations like Osaka, Taipei, Karagandy(Kazakhstan) and also into Europe and Australia.

Meanwhile, upon taking delivery of all four A330-200 freighters, the cargo arm of the national carrier hopes to see revenue increase by RM200 million in the financial year ending Dec 31, 2012.

With the availability of these efficient mid-sized aircraft in its fleet, Shahari said the company hoped to be able to increase its capacity by 25 per cent.

Subsequent to this, he said MASKargo aimed to penetrate into the lucrative Russian market, thus, allowing more flexibility for the company to sell multiple destinations.

On its service into China, which accounted for 35 per cent of its revenue, Shahari said the A330s would allow MASKargo to efficiently serve this sector, as the Chinese government was promoting Chengdu and Chonqin.

"Take for instant Chonqin HP, it is one of the biggest plant to be established in the region and Apple is also moving a lot of its operations there.

"Bulk manufacturing is done there and other corporations like Dell and Lenovo are also developing their facilities in that region.

"So, we anticipate a lot of growth potential in Chengdu and Chonqin," he added.

The first A333 service to MEL started today! 9M-MTD took the honors for this historic flight! I think the A333 will only be on one of the 2 daily MEL service. Hopefully the next MH Airbus to land in MEL is the A388! :)

From MH's latest timetable (for the period of 30 October 2011 until 24 March 2012), the new A333 operates on the following flights:

KUL-ADL-KUL 6 weekly

KUL-BNE-KUL 5 weekly

KUL-MEL-KUL 14 weekly

KUL-PVG-KUL 7 weekly (flight MH 385/386)

There might be some other flights but it was put under EQV due to mix aircraft usage on that particular flights.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- MASkargo Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, took delivery of its second A330-200F at the Dubai Air Show Tuesday.

The air cargo transportation company said the new aircraft's performance and flexibility would enable direct freight services from its Kuala Lumpur base to destinations across Asia, with onward capability to Australia, Europe or the US.

In a statement, MASkargo said it had ordered four A330-200F aircraft for operation across its international network.

The aircraft, since entering into service in 2010, has demonstrated its attractiveness by offering better payload, range and economics than previous generation aircraft in its class, MASkargo said.

MASkargo's New Plane Flies Humanitarian Aid To Dubai

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- An Airbus A330-200F just delivered to MASkargo, the freight subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, has arrived in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during the Dubai Airshow, carrying 40 tonnes of high energy food.

The flight, facilitated by the Airbus Corporate Foundation along with MASkargo and Action Against Hunger, will boost crucial stocks at the United Nation's Humanitarian Response Depot in the emirate.

"Thanks to MASkargo, the Airbus Corporate Foundation has been able to support Action Against Hunger, in another great example of how aviation can contribute to humanitarian relief and help people in need in a very tangible way," Tom Enders, foundation chairman and Airbus president said in a statement.

Founded in France in 1979, Action Against Hunger is using its Dubai base to capitalise on the emirate's strategic location from which to serve a coordinated global effort to respond to emergency situations elsewhere in the world.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) will use the 283-seater A330-300 aircraft for flights to five Australian destinations from Monday.

In a statement, MAS said the aircraft upgrade aimed to give the passengers a more comfortable journey.

"The upgrade follows the final B777 service which was phased out from the KL-Sydney route yesterday," it said.

Its head of network and revenue management, Shihaj Abdulla Kutty, said the Australia/New Zealand segment of MAS network remained an important market for operations, especially for the connectivity it provided on the Kangaroo route to and from Europe.

"With the switch, we have also adjusted some flight timings and days of operations to provide better connectivity for our customers travelling beyond Kuala Lumpur," Shihaj said.

Currently, MAS operates twice daily KL-Melbourne and KL-Sydney flights, ten weekly flights between KL-Perth, daily flights between KL-Adelaide and five weekly flights between KL-Brisbane.
